Props to Charlie here. For those who can't remember/have not seen the film, later in the story he's attempting to defuse a bomb in a school and is given the order to evacuate. But on learning that there's at least one group of children still in the building, he refuses the evacuation order and remains by the device. He later discovers that the bomb was a fake, but didn't know that at the time. Man was ready to sell his life to protect others.

Too be honest, I didn't think this is the best die hard film, this is in the same rank as Die hard 4.0. The villain didn't made all that much sense, and felt kinda forced. There were no real stakes in this film. And the ending just lack the suspense that the orignal ending should have had. Die Hard 2, even though it was goofy, actually had stakes as you can see with the plane crash. And same goes for the first one.

@@jtb1990419 i dont like 2 very much.. the plot was waaay too far fetched and imposible for me to believe the movie.. and specially what goes on later like the police carnage or the mass murdering of civilians in that plane OVER WASHINGTON and that the goverment and police still seems to not take the threat seriously beyond the airport stuff.. DH1 and 3 did however and both had plausible and clever plots.. Sorry im sure there must be a way for terrorists to take hostage planes and/or an airport than just pretending to be the tower.. specially when anyone with a radio can talk to any nearby planes and you have a TON of military assets right there in the same city.. Also.. for whats worth.. Die Hard 3 at least was closelly related to Die Hard 1 .. as McLane implication is directly consecuence of the 1st one and also necesary as its revealed to be both vengeance and a ploy to distract the NYPD fron the actual hit.. DH2 was just something random involving terrorists happening to McLane again.. Thats also why the next 2 movies suck. Also i cant forget the last 2 movies for fully removing Holly .. she was center to John in DH1.. even in DH3 while on a bit of bad terms is stated that they are not divorced and it ends in a positive note as John is last seen calling her back with everyone insisting in him doing it and suck it to fix things with her.. we dont get Holly but its suposed to end well for both of them offscreen.. then DH4 and DH5 ruin it completelly

Action movies from the 80s/90s tended to have a little comedy to them which honestly complimented the intensity of some scenes when done right. I really can't decide which one is more brilliant, Die Hard With a Vengeance or Die Hard. They're both brilliantly made by McTiernan. They both expand on John McClane more brilliantly than the other sequels... which almost all go through the motions. This character was McTiernan's character and it shows. Both of the villains are wonderful. I actually want Simon to win more than Hans. But.... I mean, look at this scene. Look how it was shot, acted, written.... The blood, violence, the build up and intensity. Then, watch Live Free or Die Hard.... The car flipping over John's head and then, John conveniently driving another car into a helicopter. One is the most bad ass R-rated elevator action scene imaginable and the other is PG-13, CGI nonsense. It's a travesty what happened to this series. In another scene, watch John. He's just survived the subway crash. He's talking to the g-men in a van. He's bored and annoyed with the whole thing. He suddenly starts eating his own scabs. LOL. That's not Bruce's scabs. That's fake scabs and John is just casually eating them. That's subtle as hell but brilliant character development. It makes you forget that Bruce just got out of his own trailer 10 minutes earlier.

Funniest thing of all is that a *lot* of bomb squad guys are about this unhinged. You see, they have a very distinct career curve; they start out too inexperienced to be really good at disarming bombs, and then they become experienced and confident... but after a while that very experience makes them perfectly aware how much of the job is luck and how close they come to dying dismantling *any* device and they get kind of... strange. Most have a nervous breakdown at that point and retire. The remainder get kooky and weird like Charlie, and keep going until they finally get blown up.
