Minor tip off: John McLean mentions "Indian Summer"....Indian summer is when a summer's hot, dry and sunny weather extends well into September-October. @delanorrosey47303 жыл бұрын
@@highwind8124 Those weren't cops; they were impersonating armed guards for the Federal Reserve (which have authority similar to police). Their badges doesn't have serial numbers; just a number and a letter. Mustache guy is Inspector Walter Cobb, head of McClane's police unit and his boss. The lotto number of the day was 4667. 6991 was Ricky; I don't think Charlie was with them until after retrieving the first briefcase bomb. Lambert did say half the cops in New York play their badges; it was a 50/50 shot whether the imposters were playing their badge numbers. McClane asking the lotto question was casual banter he made to distract them so he could reach for his gun. Notice how they look around and act like they're casually listening to him rather than focusing on him and why he's reaching into his shirt for his Beretta in his shoulder holster. Now, if McClane and not Zeus had given the briefcase to the 4 imposter NYPD officers standing outside the bank, he would either know they're imposters because he never saw them before. (Since McClane was looking at them from a distance, he only looked at the uniforms and not their faces. Similar circumstance happened in the St. Valentine's Day Massacre - a gangster disguised as a cop was mistaken for a real cop because they only looked at the uniform, despite the rival gang knowing said gangster as a gangster. Or the German speaking imposter NYPD officers would've given themselves away. Convenient plot device that Zeus forgot that Simon spoke GERMAN and gave them the briefcase bomb that they used to blow up the dam and try to drown McClane.)

I've watched this film hundreds of times. A few cop friends of mine theorized this scenario on how real this could be. If you pay very close attention, McClane knows that something is way off before he enters the elevator. The last dude that enters is so tall that it takes McClane by surprise. Look at his reaction. He knows that they just seem out of place. Before the badge close up, he looks back to the dude on his camera right. Look at his gulp in his throat. He's convincing himself of his gut instinct. All of the security guards are unaware of McClane's quick wit. The close up of his eyes AFTER he realizes that the badge belonged to Detective Walsh was his conviction. He convinced himself right then and there that he was going to die if he didn't kill them all first. McClane then performed the art of misdirection and the element of surprise with his lottery ticket story. Notice the dude to his camera left. He seemed honestly perplexed at McClane's question. They all forgot that he was strapped. He knew that the 2 behind him were already dead because of his positioning. The struggle between the other 2 were for dramatic effect for the audience. In reality, someone with so much conviction in a life and death situation like that would've killed the reaming two in front of him. It's a great study for a CQC scenario.

What I love about this is how it depicts threat and violence. You know before McClane does that he's getting into a ahem 'lift' with 4 bad guys, who are clearly well trained. Then you see just how big they are compared to him, surrounding him in a tiny elevator. How does McClane get out of this when he doesn't yet realise how much trouble he's in? And when it finally hits the fan, it's not pretty, it's not cool. It's gritty, it's messy and when he's done, McClane is exhausted from the exertion, and can barely pull himself out of the elevator. That's how you do action!

What an intense, iconic & unforgettable scene. A scene where John McClane's senses play out again, where he does it again, gets right to confronting them, capturing them and alongside taking them all out. A scene that puts you on the edge of your seat with what was going to happen next, which kept you wondering & focused. Humorous as well. A legendary film, from such an iconic storyline/series of John McClane. A film that comes very close to the first film in being the greatest with the first film being first. A legendary cast, storyline, soundtracks, comedy, lots of action, intensity and emotion. Bruce Willis as John McClane truly never fails, and adding Samuel really makes it even more dynamic & iconic with there duo/partnership. Like I said earlier in previous clips, sad that they don't make movies like these anymore, truly way ahead of its time, and a great throwback to the original & first film. 4.30.23 (A movie I got myself to re-watch again for my birthday on the 19th of April alongside my twin brother @E.D).

An unforgettable scene man and film. Really Sad that they don't make films like these anymore. Truly ahead of it's time. Really aged well, and still gives its effects. 4.30.23

Give independent creators and authors a shot. You'll eventually find some truly exemplary work. But Hollywon't is a stale, empty, soulless machine; you won't find exemplary content nor enlightenment there anymore.

I like how he casually talks because it just lowers the fake cops guard down. They had no clue that they were about to die.

I think that's why they made him hesitate in saying it. To make it seem he had trouble remembering the correct saying. When I first saw they movie, I just assumed he was trying to be funny saying it backwards.

Even without the dogs and cats comment (along with how Americans generally don't refer to an elevator as a "lift"), and the dead giveaway with the stolen badge on Otto, McClane would still have been tipped off by all the tall, blonde, light-skinned, Nordic-looking dudes that looked just like the ones he dealt with in Nakatomi Plaza.

"before we get started, does anyone want to get out?" Lol. Before there was Captain America, there was Lieutenant McClane! Still, it's funny watching this "raining dogs and cats", and "lift". Yeah, that's not suspicious at all.

The one thing that gives it away as well is “I always end up riding the lift.” Americans don’t call it a lift. It’s an elevator, only time I’ve ever heard it referred to as a lift is from someone not from the U.S.

Also, the badge number is actually foreshadowed at the start of the film during the scene in Harlem in the police truck. They discuss lottery numbers there... For them to be crucial later on.

id say just because another action film has an action sequence in an elevator, doesnt mean its ripping this off. This scene is fantastic but Winter Soldier had a different execution. Check out Merantau for another great action sequence in an elevator.
