nice video. just as a little side note, the little pin on the side of the thermostat should be orientated up. that makes it easier for air to escape from the engine block. Doesn't really matter all that much, but I figured I would mention it.

A warning for those of you buying the thermostat: The gasket does not come on all the thermostats--without this gasket, your seal will leak. I found out by experience! And YES, this saved me 600$ which is what a local mechanic wanted to change this plus a back flush!

for everyone following this video, A LOWER TEMP STAT IS NOT A GOOD MOVE. Engines have a design temp. When you use a lower temp stat, it will open earlier at a lower temp. This will only serve to INCREASE warm up time. If it's high-flow too, then it may cause the engine to not ever reach Design Temp. Just stick a 82C back in there. The install tutorial was great though.
@dudebud72Ай бұрын
A lower thermostat by 10d is beneficial for the motor, especially in warmer climate. The warmer temperatures are for emissions only, therefore premium gas will actually increase performance. When you take 20d drop in temp in the north country in winter you will know it. 10d is optimal for less wear on cooling system components, aluminum head and block material again the steel head gasket. The comment made me laugh, yes, heat is definitely great for a motor.

@AaronHinesAuto5 жыл бұрын
a little rtv wont hurt but is not completely necessary, an o ring is included in the OEM part from Nissan, however if you purchase a thermostat from oreillys or napa, you most like will have to purchase the seal separately, check out the links in the description of this video to find the right part u need.

@MarcoRodriguez-lr2xt4 жыл бұрын
If it take a lot to get to normal running temperature and heater air is not as hot; it could be a thermostat that is stuck open. Had that happen to me on a different vehicle.

The heater valve Aaron shows at the end, the one on the back of the firewall with the two hoses to it that switches the a/c to heat. That has a motor inside it that gets rusted and fails. That’s 99% your issue I am sure

No gasket on the housing? Just on the thermostat itself?
@TheJqueezy4 жыл бұрын
I have an 04 and that's how it's been the last couple times I've changed the thermostat. No gasket. Apparently, the rubber around the edge of the thermostat IS the gasket.
@TheJqueezy4 жыл бұрын
I've done this a few times and no matter what I do I still get leaks from between the housing and block. I've even changed the housing twice and I still get leaks. What do you suggest I do to prevent leaks from the thermostat/housing area?
@AaronHinesAuto4 жыл бұрын
Do you see any small cracks around that area? That’s very strange. I’m asunming you are installing a new o ring when doing this. Perhaps a small film of rev silicone would help it seal
@TheJqueezy4 жыл бұрын
@@AaronHinesAuto no small cracks. Brand New thermostat with new seal around it. Maybe it wasn't an oem thermostat. Maybe AutoZone didn't have OEM. I'm not sure. I just placed an order for the one you put a link for. Guess we'll see what happens.

@@eirod yes, I think one thing you have to make sure you do is after you put the thermostat in make sure you twist it clockwise until it locks in place.
