The price of these 2 devices is pretty similar if you find a decent offer . The xp-pen it's worthed more if you find it for 150 - 200 $ less than the cintiq . Both are very good tablets btw .

I came across here checking out reviews because they're on sale right now. Never heard of them before. Anyway, they knocked $100 the 15.6 so it's going for $300 instead of $400 right now. At $400, I'd probably just save a little longer and go with the Cintiq, but at $300, that's good enough of a savings for me to bite. Thought I'd let you know if you haven't gotten one yet but were interested.

Great review. Quick pros/cons summary: XP-Pen Artist 15.6 Pro Pros: $250 cheaper, laminated display, shortcut buttons, scroll wheel, cheaper nibs/pen, can be powered from a computer's USB, USB C, 88% NTSC, 3.26 lbs (1.48kg) Cons: Not color accurate out of the box, some slight wavy lines on slow lines, less accurate/ less smooth tilt, tilt may not work on all brushes Wacom Cintiq 16 Pros: Color accurate out of the box, better pen, more accuracy/no wavy lines, tidier cables, more solidly built, you can multiple Wacom pens including the art pen. (sold seperately) Cons: No laminated display, no shortcut buttons, no scroll wheel. You must buy a remote for that. 72% NTSC color gamut, 4.19 lbs, 1.9kg

Great, fair, comparison review.However some of your complaints seemd a biit nitpicking. I can live with the small "cons" of the XP-PEN tablet and save $250. Actually I used two coupons on Amazon and saved another $60. $339 delivered. BTW, the new firmware update from XP-Pen solves the wavy-line and "shoelace ends" problems. The downside, is that the update must be done on a Windows computer only. Upside is that it takes only three minutes, so borrow a friend's Windows laptop (you need an HDMI port).

They've really come a long way for me to be able to say the 15.6 is fine, nice even. I got mine for $340 from amazon, People just shouldn't expect premium Wacom quality out of it. those wacom features of alternate nibs and being able to bind different physical pens to different brushes, sound awesome. I've never tried wacom, but I've used the xp-pen for about 1.5 years. There was never a time where I wished my xp-pen could've done this or that. Everything I produced is pretty much from my own expertise. I'd say it doesn't matter what quality your cintiq is, because you can still produce the same results. Currently though, I have moved on to my Ipad pro because it is more portable.

@@sonyvegas757 I agree, for the most part. I've never tried Wacom unless you count samsung products with wacom tech. The newest xp-pen 15.6 seems to give me everything I need. It's very usable. I'd really love to try a Wacom cintiq, particularly for the textured screen to get a more natural drawing-on-paper feel, but I dont know if these niceties are justifiable if you aren't a professional and working with it everyday (which I'm not). Ipad pro's are great too, I use a samsung note 10.1(2014) which feels great to draw on, but is a bit underpowered today and the apps for android aren't that good.

I'm here checking out reviews because I noticed an advertisement that the XP-Pen tablets are on pretty decent sales. The 15.6 is going for $300 as of the time of this posting (Christmas season 2019). I'm not sure that it'd be worth it at $400 (might as well go the little extra to get the Cintiq), but with that extra $100 off for the sale, it seems like a pretty decent entry-level tablet that's less than half the cost of the same-sized Cintiq. Thanks for the honest review.

the offset problem on the XP Pen is probably caused by driver issue. According to the spec, the hardware is suppose to have tilt support. They just need to correct the cursor position based on the tilt angle and the distance between the display penal of the pen tip.
@dvhstudios
@dvhstudios 5 жыл бұрын
Mr Rutten, I commend you for doing this comparison, I do not think anyone else has on KZbin. I have a few criticisms and comments though. I wish you would show us the aspects you are comparing either ideally side-by-side or one after the other more often. For example at the 14:21 minute mark you show us the distortion on the Xp product but at 14:28 you tell us there isn't any on Wacom's product from a different view. I think it would have been more effective had you shown the same close-up view. To add, at 2:04 while comparing the straying of the cursor while tilting the pen, it looks like you've tilted the Xp-pen so much that it is parallel to the screen and that the nib isn't even touching the tablet anymore. Seconds later when you're showing Wacom's pen, the angles of tilting look significantly less extreme. You tell us that the Xp tablet is not as well built as the Cintiq and even mention at 13:36 that you could crack it if you step on it. How would the Cintiq fare if one stepped on it? The problem is, and it may just be mine, is that I have watched this already knowing you prefer the Wacom tablet, not only in this head-to-head where you've even had to defend yourself, but in general and had no interest in looking alternatives till very recently. I've no doubt that Wacom is better, and I do not even think Xp-pen are trying to be better than Wacom, and I also think you've tried your best to be fair, but I think it is unfortunate that often in this video, many times when Xp-pen has a slight advantage, you tell us "it doesn't really matter because" or Wacom is better if you buy something that isn't included.
@aaronrutten
@aaronrutten 5 жыл бұрын
The angle doesn't matter for the distortion comparison because the Cintiq does not have the same kind of screen. As suggested in the comments, the laminated and bonded screen is the reason for that. The Cintiq just doesn't distort so why waste time showing nothing? I explained verbally why it doesn't distort, that should be good enough. Sure a laminated and bonded screen is an advantage, but not if the screen distorts, the cursor is offset when tilting and the pen pressure response is sub par, etc... I'm not downplaying the Artist 15.6 Pros advantages, I'm putting them in context from the perspective of someone who is a professional artist and has reviewed more tablets that the average person. As far as the tilt offset cursor, the cursor actually moves out of position, so the angle doesn't matter, you'd see the difference from any angle. Even at an extreme tilt angle, the cursor remains fixed on the Cintiq 16. Its somewhat common knowledge that these alternatives have this issue due to their tech. XP Pen even awknowledged it as seen in the comments of my Artist 15.6 Pro review. Regarding the build quality comment, if you stepped on the Cintiq 16, it is more rigid, so yes it could break, but a lot less likely since it doesn't flex like the XP Pen does. You'll have to take my word for it, I hoped this direct comparison would appease those who think I am being unfair, but I guess nothing I do will ever be clear enough or good enough. People will pick apart every camera angle, every word. Funny thing is that I actually have tried them side by side and I still have people who don't own either device telling me I don't know what I'm talking about.
@dvhstudios
@dvhstudios 5 жыл бұрын
@@aaronrutten Thank you for replying. I am not suggesting that you do not know what you are talking about. I also completely disagree with this : "The Cintiq just doesn't distort so why waste time showing nothing? I explained verbally why it doesn't distort, that should be good enough." Imagine somebody is reviewing 2 products and shows something subpar on product A but for product B instead of showing it is superior, merely states it. Now imagine if that was repeated for 5 or 10 aspects of comparison (I am not saying you are doing this here, I am merely hypothetically speaking to illustrate my point). As I wrote earlier, I think it would be more effective to show the superiority of a product to another, if anything, whether you care about this or not, to demonstrate impartiality. I am also not suggesting that Xp's cursor is not offset, but I would rather see a reviewer put 2 products through the exact kind of test. You do this to show us the difference in lag and it is convincing. My critique of the "stepping on it, it could break" line is that it is somewhat gratuitous. Why not just end it at Xp pen is lighter, feels less sturdy and is not as well-built as Wacom? The extra "it would break if you step on it" suggest that Wacom wouldn't and we do not know that. If you're going to say something will break if you step on it, I'd prefer to see you do something like Jerryrigeverything and show us, for example that Xp breaks after 2 steps but Wacom breaks only after 10. Once again, I am not saying you do not know what you are talking about (I do not have these 2 tablets before me) but I really do think by making a few small tweaks no one could question your impartiality.

It's not that I didn't want to make everything perfect, it's that I have a limited amount of time I want to invest in reviews. Reviews don't pay my bills. So basically, I am too lazy to spend an extra 2-3 days making the perfect review because, guess what, someone else would come along and say that video wasn't fair. I'm not catering to that high of standards because that's like 1% of the people who watch this video. But isn't the point of a comparison review to say in the end which one is better..? I have seen soooooo many people had issues with the pro pen tablets crashing, not recognizing programs, dying after less than six months of use, pen stops working etc. While none of that happens with the cintiq. Athough contiq is much more expensive, it has more features than the xp pen, it's better quality, lasts longer, while xp pen feels like a risky choise. Anyway, if you don't have the money right now, xp pen is the only choise for you, which is fine, but just because something is much cheaper it doesn't mean it's the best choise. You're not looking for a review on this thing, you're looking for someone to tell you "buy it". If it's not better than cintiq, it's just not.

I have an Artist Pro 13.3 that's been acting up but I can say it's served me well for a little over a year, but the color inaccuracy would drive me crazy and I wasn't interested in spending $150 on Spyder5 just to calibrate my colors for a $300 tablet. I just bought the Cintiq 16 just because I wanted something bigger, and this review helped tons. Accurate colors, better build quality, bigger (than what I currently have), superior pen, less lag, it's all stuff I prioritize the most. I'll miss the little scroll wheel, though. The new Artist Pro 16TP looks great as well.

@@fizz_927 With the few hours I worked with it, I'd say I like it so far, but it depends on what you prioritize tbh!! It takes getting used to having no scroll wheel and the wire management is kind of annoying, too, but I can't say they're deal-breakers. Colors on XPPEN always looked way too vibrant for me, especially blues and greens, so I'd say Cintiq colors are less vibrant but more accurate. The pen for some reason looks like it lags when you hover but once you apply pressure it does feel a little faster than the XPPEN's pen. Definitely buy a screen protector if you get a Cintiq, the one I got makes the surface texture is a lot more paper-like so if you want something similar to XPPEN try looking for a smooth finish/"glass" screen protector instead of matte finish.

Thanks for the review. I picked up the xp-pen based on your demo of the brightness, thinking I could use it outdoors in bright, direct sun. Just got it and checked that out, with mixed results: It's clearly legible at face-up at noon in the Mojave desert, but 1) the laptop's battery drains fast keeping the tablet at maximum brightness, and 2) the laptop and tablet get pretty warm in direct sunlight, which may not be good for 'em. BTW, I was looking at this model or the cintiq because wacoms have good community support to make them work on linux, whereas xp-pen has vendor support. The driver's in beta and doesn't support tilt yet but everything else works great.

It's interesting to see these comparison videos. I am not going to buy one anytime soon since I am very happy with my Cintiq Pro and don't think anything in the market comes even close mostly because of the etched glass texture, the fact you can use multiple pens and map them to different brushes depending on the program, and the fact that Wacom driver allows you to control almost all your settings on a per program basis. It's nice to see that the alternatives are evolving. I don't feel like they have caught up but they have definitely made great strides. I feel like it would have been fair to point out that for Wacom in addition to the expresskey remote you can set up per app OSD Pop Up controls that you can trigger with a button on the pen. Takes a bit of setting up but if you nest OSD controls you can actually execute commands very quickly and effectively and have way more options than with most hotkeys on monitor and the expresskey remote

Here's a more unbiased look at the two :P I don't own either display, I'm not an artist, I don't draw, and I don't have any sort of graphics tablet period :) My recommendation: If you're a professional and need this in a work environment, don't buy either of these >.> If you have to choose between the two for work with no other options, go for the Cintiq. Reliable support and actual warranty service is worth far more than the $200-250 extra you pay for the Cintiq over the XP Pen display. If you're a hobbyist and this is further your hobby, I would recommend the XP Pen Artist hands down. XP Pen - Pros:(only ones that are of functional use and/or of any real value) 200-250$ Cheaper Has built in express keys and rotary knob Laminated display You could buy the Express Key Remote and have even more express keys and it'll still be cheaper than buying the Cintiq alone. *YES the Express Key Remote works 100% without a Cintiq tablet/display For the price of the Cintiq 16 alone, you could buy an even bigger and higher end model of an XP Pen pen display XP Pen - Cons:(only ones that take away function and/or any real value) You have to calibrate the color out of the box Crappy stand with no option for attachable stand directly to the tablet but here's the next best thing :) www.amazon.ca/Parblo-Universal-Adjustable-Graphics-Monitors/dp/B07B2DCCMN/ Pen display is rather flimsy; but hey, everyone uses 5+lbs of force while they're drawing right ? Pen isn't tracked as well when tilted Don't expect any support or warranty service Cintiq 16 - Pros:(only ones that are of functional use and/or of any real value) Color calibrated out of the box Pen is tracked really well even when tilted Professional support and actual warranty service(or at least I'm assuming) Cintiq 16 - Cons:(only ones that take away function and/or any real value) Quite a bit more expensive No express keys Crappy stand but here's a cheaper alternative :) www.amazon.ca/Parblo-Universal-Adjustable-Graphics-Monitors/dp/B07B2DCCMN/

to say that you don't need express keys because you can have "on screen express keys" is like saying you don't need it because you can use a normal keyboard. Question: how do you hold down, say, alt when you draw? or shift... or even alt + ctrl + shift with on-screen express keys? right. You don't :P
@aaronrutten
@aaronrutten 5 жыл бұрын
You are correct about that aspect. While on-screen keys do support keystrokes and modifiers like shift, unless your tablet supports touch, you can't use them while drawing. For everything else, they work great. What you would need to do in the scenario you described is just set the two buttons on your pen to the two modifiers (or combination of modifiers) you use the most. Or just use your keyboard for modifiers.

@@aaronrutten To be fair, i always found the express keys on wacom boards more annoying than useful and i always end up using the keyboard. I use too many keys and shortcuts in my workflow. However, i am very interested in knowing more about the new seperate 17 key thing they have. Also, i'm about to buy a new cintiq now and i am torn between 16 pro and 22 non pro. My biggest concern is parallax since that have always annoyed me on the older models. It's better now on the non pro.. but said to be even less on the pro. Any comments about that? :)

I own a XP pen artist Pro 15.6 tablet. Your comments are all pretty spot-on. I will point out that the previous generation of the XP pen artist Pro had a much better stand, basically a knock off of the Cintique stand. When considering the tablet and the stand, however, I find the XP-Pen with its cheap plastic stand pretty portable. That may not be a concern for many digital tablet owners, but...

here's how i see it: every device no matter if it's the top quality device, will become outdated and bested by a newer model. that being said, in the 90s drawing tablets themselves were a luxury and most used mice. then when tablets became more popular in the 2000's, display monitor (tablets where you draw on the screen) became to come in. now display monitor tablets are more popular, and we're fighting over which one is slightly better. in my opinion, just using a monitor tablet like one of these in the video is already a huge advantage. think of it like pros 10 years ago would have used something that would seem obsolete today, but they still made amazing work with it. to me, we're just fighting over bells and whistles at this point, and 90% of it is the same. if you have the money, of course the higher quality one will be better, but if you're on a budget or just want to save a few $100, then go for the cheaper one. either way, you're still getting something amazing. so saying you need the cintiq to be a working professional is absolute balogny. in the end, it's about what you can do with the device more than what the device can do for you. just a thought :)

First off,....WOW,..what a review! Let's give Aaron a round of applause!! I always anticipate a certain slant or bias when I look at online reviews with these tablets. Aaron could not have been more honest and straight forward as he was here. He just states the facts, whether it favors one or the other in each category. No extra commentary or snide remarks. Perfect! This is a close one. I could see if one was really counting pennies and just had to have a display tablet, that they might jump on the XP Pen. But it's the little details though that really add up for the long term. I would have to go with the Wacom Cintiq on this. I've been a basher of all things Wacom (when talking about price) but it really is hard to appreciate their overall quality and functionality until you try one or own one. It often comes down to the investment that you want to make in yourself. Is it just a passing hobby or are you just starting out? Then maybe a less expensive display will work out just fine. Are you really passionate about your drawing/painting experience and/or experienced in your craft? You really need to go Wacom or another higher end device. You are investing in yourself and your goals. Nothing wrong with either decision so long as you are honest with yourself.

Whenever the xp pen had an edge he argued for the cintique in some fashion. While it was a decent comparison there was clear bias. Good job either way. I bought the XP pen because the price of the cintique does not do any of the minor advantages justice and the advantages the XP pen have would increase the price of the cintique immensely.

Thanks. I think most people who watched this appreciate that I put the features into context. There are a lot of artists who want to know more than just a list of superficial specs. Anyone can do that. For example, you might feel USB-C is a great choice, but there are others who would prefer a more secure connection like the Cintiq 16 has. Some may prefer express keys on the tablet, while others will just use a keyboard. Artist 15.6 Pro has a larger color gamut. Cool... But what if you don't already own a $100-$200 colorimeter? That $400 tablet now becomes $550 in order to match the Cintiq in terms of color accuracy. That's not bias, that's my point of view based on my experience as a professional artist and designer. I'm not the only one who would see color accuracy as being more important than a 10% difference in color gamut. So basically if I'm honest and I share my opinion based on experience, then I'm biased? I honestly don't care if a few people feel that way because I'd rather say something is better and back it up with comparisons like I did here than say every tablet is equal. I'm going to keep on doing it my way because the vast majority of my viewers respect how I feel and value my "bias".
@kilrain_dev
@kilrain_dev 5 жыл бұрын
Aaron Rutten like I said making a comparison is good, it was just obvious you were bias. You could argue the value of having the buttons since the remote is an extra $100. So you could argue cost savings there but you didn't. The power button on the XP-Pen is tucked away, you're not going to accidentally press it. I felt you were trying to hard to find something wrong with it. You won't want to step on either screen. I wish the XP-pen had a vesa mount but there are adapters for about 15 bucks, so while it's not as pretty with the adapter you're still saving a ton of money. If you did purchase the XP-pen and bought an entry level colorimeter it would still cost less and you would have a tool you can use on future monitors. These are just some of them things that could have been said to sound more unbiased, in my opinion. And obviously you do care, and should. It's what makes us grow :)

@@kilrain_dev I don't think you watched the whole video. I actually did say that the power button is on the side and it's an advantage if you're worried about pressing it while drawing. I pointed out a lot of features that were advantages over the Cintiq 16. Have you tried the Cintiq 16? Do you know how the build quality compares? Obvioulsy you won't want to step on either device, but the Cintiq feels more durable. That was the point. The most important factor for me in reviews is the ability of the reviewer to weigh all the factors and give information in am manner so I can translate to my use case. I watched your video about reviews, and I gather that this is the one they wanted you mention price difference in relation to the stand. I don't think that was unreasonable. I can see you even got comments about that. Also your expectations of the manufacturers ability to receive critique graciously seems greater than those of yourself. When there is a price difference of 100% to 150% you shouldn't expect the same quality and feature set. Most people who ask for these product to be reviewed do it because Wacom is too expensive. Refusing to take cost into perspective seems like an oversight. There is tendency on YT to be very worried about shilling, but being fair is being fair to everyone. If you can remain in good standing with the companies and not tell lies, I don't see the problem. If they tell you to leave out important details that would be a problem. But including truthful info is not.

A Wacom stand costs three times as much in my country, so I have only Cintiq 16 with an ExpressKey Remote without a stand, which costed out around $2,000 in the country I'm based in (Brazil). Yeah, I could only afford that because I'm a veteran artist. If it wasn't for that, I'd buy a Huoin for sure, but the only trustworthy tablet shop was Wacom in here. The Huion re-sellers are totally incompetent in my country and I didn't know if I'd receive my product after paying for that. One day, I'd like to test other tablet brands and give them a chance (I'm a Wacom user for 15 years). TIP: For the first-time Wacom users, do yourself a favor. Buy as many RAM memory as your machine can support or you'll experience that weird lag Aaron is showing in his video (16 GB RAM is decent, if you can, go for 32GB RAM). AND, use a second monitor, or you'll end up blind in a few months...

Overall i think a cintiq 16 is a better deal cuz the price in my country is pretty similar and you get a couple of features more on the driver and a overall more optimized experience but the xp-pen it's not bad either it work well too . Other than that you can do professional art even with just a cheap standard tablet that you can buy for 50$ . The problem is that with monitor-tablet you are more comfortable and faster to achieve the same results . Also some people totally hate standard tablet cuz you need to get accustomed to use them well .

I always hardware calibrate my monitors with i1 Display Pro. I'm even used to calibrate them, as each one has own preferences too in the calibration process. If I get the XP-PEN with a higher Adobe RGB coverage, then that'd be my preference, all what matters is the final result. This is a very major factor for my work. Very good review.

Also, I need to add : Cintiq 16 has the "pro" removed from the name for a reason (plus, IMO already the size tells you that... I'd recommend any pro to go 22 and up). The target market might be students more than low income professionals. A pro would think like me in the above post, but a student, with a 75% Adobe RGB which is equal or almost to a 100% sRGB, is WAY good to go. A lot to learn till the color at that level of accuracy is an issue. Even a low end pro, as MANY cheap POD print companies will even require you a sRGB compatible file, and even get more accurate results than with a tiff / pdf covering well Adobe RGB, or a CMYK file (just because how they have their workflow ! . But is in many cases a reality). Heck I worked 7 years as the man for all corporate web/print company for a very relevant company, yet small sized, and the monitor was WAY worse than this cintiq 16 one, as you can end up guessing the color errors, the light uniformity probs and such. You can do a lot with almost anything if learning the tricks.

@Kuuryo I agree with a part of that. Indeed, I have written later to that comment of mine, my recent findings about this great model and competitors, checking other reviewer's tests, had led me to get to an important conclusion I was more or less getting convinced (after being a fanboy for alternatives, due to pricing, for a long time) about as I go reading more stuff : That the competitors get you a too lower quality product, but also, it's a bit of hit and miss. Some products *DO* get you a positive balance enough, as to go purchasing, despite not being premium, from other brands. But Wacom rarely fails in delivering the brand quality. It's in too many things, and the problem : I'm seeing that nobody compiles ALL of the advantages of Wacom products vs the alternatives, as is a daunting task, specially for professional usage, where a ton of bits are a important, if not key. You might be interested in knowing more specifically about these findings related to this *Wacom cintiq 16* and their direct competition (including huion, xp-pen, parblo and artisul, for all I know) in certain video's pinned comment (by Aaron), in my super long comment reply for that pinned comment (and of course, all the info from Aaron and Brad) : I'll link it at the bottom. But long story short, after many data and tests I watched, all compared, etc, etc : I'd recommend very firmly this Wacom Cintiq 16, even for pro work (if can't use more than 650 bucks), over all of the other alternatives, be it Huion, XP-PEN or Artisul. That said ! If we DO compare price range, this one costs the same than a XP-PEN 22E Pro. And... for professional reasons, and because if you do have a hardware calibrator (and for pro work, be it print or photo lab, one really should have even a cheap one) , the 22E model is reported to be carried to a decent color accuracy *once calibrated* (still, some things would be more off than with cintiq models, but I could live with those(as I'm used to detect and compensate t hem) for my own work). And you really get a lot more proper work device with a 22 inches for serious work, art composition, etc. Funny that despite the 16 model from XP-PEN has battery free pen in the 16 model, as well as a lot more color range coverage (92% Adobe RGB), in the end, seeing certain tests (but not the only reviewer I have heard mentioning this from tests), is LESS accurate, as seems once hardware calibrated, the 22E allows to have a color accuracy friendly situation, not so much with the XP 16" model. So, yeah, the 2 good options are imo : Cintiq 16 in the 16 inches range, or XP-PEN + hardware color calibrator, if you don't already have one, in the 22 range (in the really pro size, that is, 22 and +). Of course, a cintiq 24 PRO is better, but I'm not gonna pay like 2k + taxes for a tablet, as I can get about 3 machines for that cost. And let's not even talk about a 32 PRO, still, that must be a wet dream. But I believe in affordable and sustainable investments in working material. Good and efficient, not crazily expensive. About what is good for each set of tasks. I do for my work all of that, as many freelancers I know. I have to provide work for screen only, and yeah, that could be just sRGB, I do a lot of work for print, and, funnily, yes, that gets favored by an Adobe RGB workflow, though imo ProPhoto is more if you are into outputting for a photo lab, working with RAWs and stuff, more in the field of photography (I'm an illustrator, comic artist, digital painter, 3D guy. Typical target user for this tablets). Also, Adobe RGB workflows are only good if you have a capable enough monitor and know your way through color management in all of your system, lighting, etc, otherwise, will cause more inaccuracy and surprises than a plain, "dumbed down" sRGB workflow. Indeed, some POD companies, print of demand services will REQUIRE you to provide the files as a sRGB file, as crazy as it sounds. Other will *only* accept Adobe RGB, others need a CMYK file (and man, with the latter, you really really need things like full calibrated monitor and whole system and apps, and even a book of CMYK samples mixes printed. I have all that...), and often, exported with the company's color profile of choice, or compliant to it. So, I can't be on the illusion that I can stick only to clients that would only need a sRGB based workflow and screen/web only work. I can see the case for someone having a super strong client requiring a very specific workflow and providing all your income so. A very rare situation. All that said. If someone has already worked with 16 inches display-tablet and knows for certain that size fits him/her (but the real proof is if worked ALSO with a 22 or +. There's a universe of difference), as being same price as the 22e, I'd get the latter instead, without a doubt + a color calibrator ( I have i1Display Pro, but cheaper brands are totally fine) so to get you a reasonable (not perfect) situation in color. The cintiq 16 comes with a nice calibration by default. I know I'd try to calibrate WHATEVER I get, anyway, and keep re-calibrating monthly. Is not a stupidity or freak detail... it avoids problems of mismatching colors, and a avoids surprises when the printed product hits your snail mail box. Is extremely rewarding to see it all worked as expected, when seeing that, despite the customer complaining until seeing the prints themselves. Customers almost never have a calibrated screen, so they will see all different. Reason why I dumb down my samples while in the process , by converting to sRGB, but carefully, before sending them the progress (which are only for them to check). Thing is, of course they love more the printed result, it often shows more subtle tones and more accurate color than cheap laptop screens or other consumer grade monitors. IE, the Cintiq 16 has quite more accuracy than any of those, for example, despite the lower Adobe RGB coverage. But a winning combination is a pro monitor right in front of you as you work with the cintiq, so you can be all time checking, in cloned. (and about *Good* monitors, whoever can get an Eizo ColorEdge, that's the whole greatness. :D. But mine is a NEC in the semi-pro range, and some DELLs in the "pro" line (I'd call that semi-pro,too) are good enough, too, for freelancing and stuff.). The comment-reply where I share what I found in the relevant parts of a great reviewer that puts that info (Aaron also did, actually) , results of calibrations and related matters, and where I conclude it's Cintiq 16 for the 16 inches range, or XP-PEN 22E for the big tablet range, at least for the sub 2k USD budgets : kzbin.info/www/bejne/iqjcZoqlbdJlbpY And btw, I'm no expert. I'm only telling here what I discovered in many reviews from different reviewers, mixed with what I know and I my own experience.

Tablet that costs twice as much is better. News at 11. But seriously though. I have the 15.6 pro and I love it. And being just someone who futzes around when bored, there's no way I can justify spending "wacom" levels of money on a tablet. If I was a professional artist, I could see how owning a wacom could be justified. If my livelihood depended on it, you need something guaranteed to work, with a good warranty with it doesn't, and drivers you don't have to fight with at all. But for everyone else, the newer chinese tablets like this one are generally much cheaper, and are generally good enough for the majority of the rest of us. Especially considering that these are on sale for $300 at the moment.

You can change the position of that dots by click&drag. Grab the middle and upper dots more to the left side (not up, nor down), OR grab the left and middle dot more into the top direction. Or did I misunderstood you? I'm not a native English speaker; sorry^^

I doubt you will scratch the screen, but you might scratch the screen protector film. It should be fine to press harder, but yes the light pressure is sub-par on the device.

I agree with you very much, I Bought XP-Pen Artist 15.6 Pro since 29 Apr 2019 before found your channel . I am very disappointed with lineart problems and driver! and the pen with Lighter pressure. The P05R Pen Stylus is easy loose and A little annoying pressure. Upset me! Right Now! They released New Firmware and New Driver to fix problem about tilt and many bug! Admit that now is very good! They still released new PA2 Pen Stylus to Replace P05R for XP-Pen Artist 15.6 Pro. The PA2 Pen Stylus is pressure and tilt are much better than the P05R Pen Stylus. Not loose and stable. I feel very so OK. Although the pen can not to draw very lighter pressure. However. My hand draw very Lighter pressure. I still miss WACOM and Apple Pencil. Do you think i should buy Wacom Cintiq 16? I am afraid that they (WACOM) will release a new entry-level tablet product next year.

so, i have now the xp pen artist 15.6 pro for 360 euro. but theres an offer for the wacom cintiq 16 which costs me just 485 euro. also i need to buy the drawing program which costs me 43 Euro. i want to use the tablet long-term and i am just a beginner, the express buttons on the XP Pen are very useful but working only on certain drawing program. I don't know if i should return the XP Pen and get the cintiq instead. as long as the xp pen can survive for at least three years , i might stick to that tablet then but not sure quality wise.

very nice comparison. I wish my Cintiq 16 had usbC as I could power, control, and send video all with a single easily replaceable cable. Also I'm a little disappointed with the screen brightness on my Cintiq. I keep my room quite dim, and even so the screen is not very bright.

If you haven't bought it yet, they're running good sales right now. $100 off the 15.6. That's what got me here checking out reviews, to see if it was hot garbage or a decent entry level tablet. Definitely seems like a decent entry level tablet. I probably wouldn't pay $400 for it, because I'd just justify saving that last extra bit for the Cintiq, but $300 is a better price for what it offers.

I stopped watching at around 14:18 after you failed to equally compare the pressure distortion. You zoomed in to emphasize the XP, but not the Wacom. I felt like there was a slight bias or favouritism towards the Wacom, but this moment confirmed it. So I'll be purchasing an XP-Pen based on this review, cheers!

as a Wacom user for years, I could see why you think this, but I still think he was fair on showing so you can see for your self some things that may or may not bother each person. I may get the XP Pen myself, due to the cost. as I like to save money. but I do this for a living, so still debating as I always used Wacom in the past..but XP Pen still looks nice.

One thing about XP-pen which adds to why it's so "slick" with no bulk, no mounts and stuff like this. They have older models with vesa mount, included clamp-stand similar to one you showed on cintiq, with fans and stuff like this. Those are the models that are meant to be used as desktop setup. But starting with models Artist 13, 15,6 XP pen swayed into "mobile" tablet format. They are lighter tablets with less bulk, less moving part and less clutter, so people could take them along with their laptops. Right now all their newer medium\small screen tablets follow this format, with Artist 12, 13, 15,6 and 15,6 Pro. Sadly i have no experience with more desk oriented tablets of Xp-pen, so i can't tell how they compare with their lighter counter parts.
@aaronrutten

You are correct, the Artist 15.6 Pro definitely feels more portable. The Cintiq 16 could also be carried along with a laptop, but if you were using the adjustable stand, that would certainly make it kind of bulky.

Honestly, in the video, the Wacom looks sooo dull. If it is already up to the maximum brightness, you have zero room for adjustment when the background light starts to die. Most people don't drag their hand directly across the screen, they use an artist glove. The last thing you want is hand oils and dead skin destroying the screen or plastic nibs. Plastic degrades faster in oils, because they are oil-based and thus, oil-solvent. The ripples on the screen are because you are compressing the LEDs, there is no different technology between the two. One just had more rigid glass, which is the Wacom. You are right, that will ultimately kill the screen pixels. Just as if you were to constantly touch your monitor and rub a pen across it. However, because it is protected by a glass surface, it will be a long time before any screen damage is noticed, potentially. It is disturbing how both have a noticeable offset when the pen is tilted. Especially since most people hold the pen at an angle to draw, normally. They honestly need to pre-angle the pen so the sensor is more upright, within the core of the pen itself. Or, they need to purposely shield those stray RF signals and calibrate it more for tilt. All creators of these things NEED to figure-out a better button placement and angle, so it is more natural and not simply the first thing that is disabled on the devices. Most people disable them, because they accidentally hit them when trying to draw, as the pens don't have an actual, functional physical "direction". (They need those pencil-grips, like the kind you push onto an actual pencil, with an obvious right-handed and left-handed grip. Put the buttons into the grip, so you just have to swap them and both buttons still function, no matter which one you attach to the pen.) At the end of the day, it is better to get the cheaper one, and just get another one, a few years later. Instead of being just stuck with one expensive one, that will last forever, except the screen-brightness... Which is more industrial, in a situation where the application doesn't honestly need industrial grade hardware. Quite honestly, you can make the cheap tablet just as strong, cheaper... Metal plate from home-depot, or wood with double-sided tape or velcro. Poof, instant mounting on any stand you want, instead of the overpriced Wacom-only stands. Add another screen-layer of gorilla-glass, with texture, and you have a screen that is less prone to pressure-damage, and extra screen brightness to boost it, if the glass makes it a bit darker. Enjoyed the review. But the honest big killer for me, is that USB plug... Those cheap USB-c plugs only last for about a year on my phones. I'd have to attach a wire-mount on the back or top of the unit, to keep the plug from moving around, making the connection bend and wiggle, leading to faster connection wear. Similar to what Wacom has done, but less integrated, obviously. They sell stick-on cable-management connections which people use on desks and inside computer cases, which work perfect for that. Nice flat and strong, keeping the wire up and away from harm, for the most part. Slight unfair part of the review was counting the Wacom stand, as if it came with the unit. You should have paused for a moment there, and added the price of that stand. Just as you mentioned that it doesn't come with it, which is slightly unfair, as you still compared it to the other stand. As opposed to just comparing the "feet", which is all that it comes with. The purpose of adjusting the price, in the comparison, is so you return fairness to that segment of the review. "This digitizer, compared to this one, with the extra stand, at these prices... Here is my review for that..." Since adding the stand nearly bumps up the price from $650 to nearly $750, depending on the stand. Which you compare to the $400 other tablet, which has the stand included.) The included stand can also be easily modified, to obtain all the same angles as the Wacom stand, for free. However, it would not easily be fit to a swing-arm stand. You also didn't do the "resting flat" review... You mention it, but never compare them. The Wacom would lose, because it is horribly thick, unless you somehow lowered your desk or raised your chair beyond a comfortable sitting position. Most artists would use a slight tilt, even on a lap, since natural sitting would create a slope away from you. However, few draw with a tablet in their lap. Few use a lap-top in their lap, which is still funny that they call them lap-tops, when I have literally NEVER seen one person use one in their lap. Mostly due to the fact that it kills your neck, wrists, slides off and burns your lap.
