Very, very surprised this video has sooo few views! Peter is not only a fascinating and brilliant commentator on culture, he played a central role in guiding and influencing some of the most important bands of the 20th century!

Thanks for sharing! One forgets how important album cover visual art is to the music art inside the package. Saville is brilliant.

I have to say as an artist that Mr Saville is the visual master of our times (pop etc) by default

made record covers using work place inspired images and signs......so what. the music would of still been just as influential if it was rapped up in sand paper or as something simple as a floppy disk

I see your point, but in my opinion the record sleeve is just as important as the music, the two kind of go hand in hand. Sure it’s easy in theory to put a floppy disk on a cover, but not everyone thinks to do it. The first New Order record, Movement, is an excellent example of this. On first glance it’s just a blue sleeve with the band logo, but everything was meticulously thought out; the font, the shade of colour, the position of the lettering, etc. Saville really pioneered the idea that minimalist art could be just as impactful as grandiose and epic album art.

But that is what he did... after a while you got drawn to his work, knowing that the contents would be cool

Just goes to show how overrated New Order really is.
