Umar Marvi is a folktale story from Sindh, Pakistan about a village girl Marvi, who resists the overtures of a powerful King and the temptation to live in the palace as a queen, preferring to be in a simple rural environment with her own village folk. It dates back to the 14th century.

@boringreviews you guys will be excited to know that old ladies are from distant villages and they don't have any music background and this is the first they have sung any kind of song. The lead singer personally searched for authentic voice that will match the requirements for this sindhi culture song and he luckly found these old ladies humming to some local tunes or random sound , and from there they were just brought up for the song as raw talent 😮

i liked it as i had the story of Umar Marvy was in my mind. its a tail from sindh about lady whose name was marvee. she was very beautiful. once she went out to get water she was seen by king he liked her and took her to his palace and force her to marry him but she refused all kings bribes gifts and warnings. at the end king had to leave her and she came back with pride to her town. when she returns people celebrate. it was shown in this song people praised her loyalty and bravery

Funnily enough, my first impression was same as you nick but since then the song has grown on me so much I feel like it must be the best one now because this song keeps getting better on multiple listens and the more you understand it, especially the second half.

Coke studio actually does exist in usa, it is recorded in Los Angeles. It is called coke studio global you should check it out. They tend to focus on global fusions rather than all American, they actually have 2 songs with shae gill the girl who sang pasoori.

This song is replete with cultural symbolism and significance, the lyrics reflect that as well as the centuries-old folktale that forms its backstory. The Indus Valley Civilization is one of the three oldest in the world. I sometimes feel that that's lost on some among the western audience that's used to more commercial music or perhaps music that lacks depth as well as a rich culutural, linguistic, and poetic context. On the other hand I've heard some listen to this song for the first time and grab onto the significance of all those things I mentioned above. There's years of hard work behind such artistry as many have discovered through the Magical Journeys of these songs, as well as years of emotions and feelings on the part of the singers. The first singer, for instance, had been writing poetry for 15 years before Xulfi discovered him. Those who are perceptive will grab onto the why and how these songs are so magical. And the artistry is beyond comparison. Just look at the set they built, a village of the Thar desert. The costumes, the colours, the emotions. More importantly, this song has touched the Sindh community very deeply, particularly those who no longer live in Sindh.

hahaha No, You are not crazy but this being the first song of this season takes time to grow on you. Also the 2nd song is out as well. It's called " 2 AM " so you guys should react to that one as well. Actually the 3rd song also will be out tomorrow on 28th April so let's see what's coming in that one. Also I wanna add that first song was released on 14 April and then next on 21st April and now 3rd will be on 28th April. So that means you can predict when the next song is coming. It's the 7 days time between every song releasing.

I love how honest you are with your review... you understand that this song wasn't an out-of-this-world kind of thing... it has its weak parts.. seriously.. when you didn't like "Sajan Das Na" from the last season of CS as much... I knew you could pick out songs that aren't great even though they are nice experiments... About the story of the song... I'd recommend you to watch the BTS of CS songs... they are way better than before... almost like documentaries about the song and the artists working on it! P.S. The 2nd song of the CS 15 is out already so check it out when you can!!

Nick, you're going to love the next one!!! I just know you will! I was disappointed with this drop initially as well, but I have to say, it's grown on me with time. PLEASE watch 2AM (the next release from Season 15). I think it may be Coke Studio's best production ever. It's got heart, melody, rhythm, two beautiful voices and an insane set.

The reason for Coke Studio Pakistan to be really successful has been rooted in lack of opportunities for artist. Pakistan has been void of major record labels, major shows such as The Voice. So coke studio uses it as an advantage to showcase that raw talent, and their success against Indian counterpart came from similar facts but also, Coke Studio Pakistan has been always about cultural integration of two different styles of music, which other Coke Studios (Asian region) have adapted to. Also, the media house rights are not the same in Pakistan. So let’s say Coke Studio US launches, if it runs on ABC network most likely it can’t run on HBO. Whereas in Pakistan all media outlets can run it as long as Coca Cola buys a spot (not saying this happens) but media rights stay with Coca Cola rather than media house or studio.
