My community is mostly Danish descents and there beautiful carved woodwork above the door even on the barn.

Robert and Mr. Dan, Is there a way that the Rising Sun motif and the house wood could be re -purposed? Would the owners allow that, because there are places that would put the remaining structural pieces to good use. The Rising Sun should be saved at the very least. Cheers, Rik Spector
@Lorriann638 ай бұрын
It's so sad to see beautiful structures, like the Rising Sun house fall to ruin. It's true that in only one or two generations a lot of places are abandoned because there are no family left, or they have moved far away, or just have no interest. I agree with some of the people here who have asked if there is some way that the Rising Sun motif can be saved somewhere? Thank you, Robert and Mr. Dan for not forgetting about this house and its glorious past.

🇨🇦my mom used to recite this poem. I thought it was the house on the road to suffering. Anyway the show puts me in mind of it. Thank you for this story. The House with Nobody In It by Joyce Kilmer (1886-1918) Whenever I walk to Suffern along the Erie track I go by a poor old farmhouse with its shingles broken and black. I suppose I’ve passed it a hundred times, but I always stop for a minute And look at the house, the tragic house, the house with nobody in it. I never have seen a haunted house, but I hear there are such things; That they hold the talk of spirits, their mirth and sorrowings. I know this house isn’t haunted, and I wish it were, I do; For it wouldn’t be so lonely if it had a ghost or two. This house on the road to Suffern needs a dozen panes of glass, And somebody ought to weed the walk and take a scythe to the grass. It needs new paint and shingles, and the vines should be trimmed and tied; But what it needs the most of all is some people living inside. If I had a lot of money and all my debts were paid I’d put a gang of men to work with brush and saw and spade. I’d buy that place and fix it up the way it used to be And I’d find some people who wanted a home and give it to them free. Now, a new house standing empty, with staring window and door, Looks idle, perhaps, and foolish, like a hat on its block in the store. But there’s nothing mournful about it; it cannot be sad and lone For the lack of something within it that it has never known. But a house that has done what a house should do, a house that has sheltered life, That has put its loving wooden arms around a man and his wife, A house that has echoed a baby’s laugh and held up his stumbling feet, Is the saddest sight, when it’s left alone, that ever your eyes could meet. So whenever I go to Suffern along the Erie track I never go by the empty house without stopping and looking back, Yet it hurts me to look at the crumbling roof and the shutters fallen apart, For I can’t help thinking the poor old house is a house with a broken heart.

I grew up in western Morris County (NJ). Our church sat on 40 acres, most of which was being leased to a local dairy farmer. Across the road, way back behind the pasture, there was an abandoned house that was smaller than the one in this video, but in about the same condition. In recent years I learned that it was our church's original parsonage, from before the newer one was built in the 1870s or 1880s. The newer one was never abandoned. The older one must be down to nothing by now. Anyway, it's awesome the rising sun was still there. It would have been interesting to send your drone up those stairs, if it can be controlled that precisely. I loved that church and cemetery afterward. I'll see if I can look it up on the website, Historic Rural Churches of Georgia.

That was so great! It continually amazes me at how many pre-war structures ya’ll have down there. Growing up in Henry co. & my grandparents all living in Clayton County, our area was in a direct path of Sherman’s terroristic tour so there are almost no pre-war structures. Jonesboro has maybe 2…one was a house being used as a hospital at the time so that is why it did not get burned. Hampton has only one house that I know of that is left from before the war. Hampton being my home town. I’m not sure about McDonough. But most all of the structures in that are can only be dated back to 1865 & later…most later. It took a few years for people to build back. My 4x great grand mother left a record of her dealings with Sherman’s terrorists in the Clayton County History Book. I’m so glad you were able to document that before it is totally gone!

Other family members later moved to Providence and continued the trade. Samuel (1752-1846) his sons Silvanus(1782-1854)and Samuel( 1785-1869)were known for their fine carvings that included urns and willows. It was a wonderful surprise to see this gravestone in Georgia!

Hey Robert, I hope someone was with you and Dan when y’all were there at the old house, cause when you were trying to decide whether or not to go up those stairs, I heard what sounded like a woman’s voice say something.I backed it up 2-3 times and could never understand what she said but someone spoke,it didn’t sound like Dan either.

I've seen a lot of these explore videos and this channel has become my favorite. Dan is a wealth of knowledge. I love listening to him talk.

It’s always interesting seeing in your videos when people have the same birthday as I do. Great vids. Take care.

I heard the woman's voice whisper "I disagree" too, very clearly.
