I have owned Cessna 310's for over 21 years. MY opinion is this airplane needs to be put back in the air. Of all the choices in light twins out there today, the 310 is the best choice. It is fast and comfortable plane to own and fly. It is expensive only if you choose the WRONG people to do the maintenance on it. There are a lot of good shops on airports that don't have high rent. They can do great work and not take you to the cleaners. People who take their airplanes to big airport maintenance have to be not concerned with cost. The most expensive and the poorest annual I have gotten in 21 years on my airplane was at a high rent big airport.
@jenniferbeyer64123 жыл бұрын
You are lucky to be able to fly any time you want. I wish I could fly again. I really miss flying. And you are right about the cost. Some times doing the repair yourself is the best way to go.
@RandomName8413 жыл бұрын
A lot of the expense of cessna twins twins comes from the increasing rarity and price of parts that need to be replaced. But cessna twins like the 320 and 310s really are about the best planes you can get without going to something like a king air.
@chucksdesk3 жыл бұрын
@@RandomName841 Agree, but what I was aiming at is that the cost of labor and inspections like annuals can be twice+ the cost at shops on smaller "low rent" airports for the same service.
@RandomName8413 жыл бұрын
@@chucksdesk You are definitely right the price of annuals can vary greatly based on where you choose to get it done. It's certainly important to consider things like that carefully since the costs can definitely add up.

All too frequently, a long abandoned aircraft is a hugely expensive aircraft. Airworthiness directives, repairing corroded components and more take a toll. Think recovering a car from a pond after a decade or so, the body isn't rusted out, don't mean that the engine and drivetrain aren't rusted together as a solid block. Or that the shock mounts are corroded through... Still, I'd still go for it. Get a cooperative A&P type to inspect and train, at least until I could certify in A&P, go to town restoring.

Love it! I grew up watching Sky King on black and white TV in the 50s. His second aircraft was a Cessna 310B and his registration IIRC was N975B. I looked up your aircraft's registration number and it's registered to a John Novak in my native hometown of Pittsburgh PA. Cert issued in 1975. It shows it as a 1955 Cessna 310. Very cool! I left Pittsburgh in 1964 for college in Youngstown, drafted after graduation in 69 and wound up in Colorado thanks to Uncle Sam for the last 51 years. Quite a pathway for me, wondering about the pathway of your Cessna. I love General Aviation though I could never afford a license. A few friends take me up occasionally. I'm a volunteer for the last 14 years at our local aircraft museum and I love the airport atmosphere! Thanks for your rescue efforts on old aircraft. I always think you guys who do rescue work on any vehicle need to pack a leaf blower, a shop vac and a pressure washer! First things first, make'm look prettier! Can I correctly assume that there is an airport runway or a grass airstrip within taxi distance of these stored aircraft? 😉👍👍

Interestingly enough, this plane has a story prior to it's hangaring! Back in mid-January of 82', this 310 was on a dusk approach to snowy Butler PA's rwy 36 when the left main landing gear, left wing and left prop struck an automobile driving on the perimeter road. There was significant damage to both plane and car, but no injuries in either. Plane landed safely. FAA's findings were 1) dusk light conditions 2) mus-judged distance PIC and 3) misjudged altitude PIC. Very happy to hear all walked away unharmed and this O-470 powered 310 gets to fly again in a new millennium!

I thought that airplane from the Rebuild Rescue channel was a one-of-it´s kind worldwide and this has never happened a second time. And you show two abandoned planes sitting somewhere out in the elements abandoned for decades on your channel. Cool stuff!

You made me cry when you turned that engine over I rebuild a lot of vintage machinery. It you let oil sit even for 6 months let alone 37 years it looks perfect as all the partiiculates drop to the sum. It you run the with out changing oil and cleaning sump you have just sucked all the crap into you oil pump and pushed it through engine. Also all cams bearings above oil line will be bone dry. Damage damage. Open covers hand oil Frist I tell all my clients.😩

Jimmy, call me a conspiracy theorist, but all three of those planes to you bought were drug trafficking planes form the the PE era in the 80's. I'm surprised no one else picked up on it. There is no coincidence all of them stopped flying in the 80's. You sir, were in the presence of a legend and you didn't even notice. You can bet he didn't give his real name out on the papers LOL.

I really love those old straight tail 310 Cessna’s! Those are great airplanes and those 470 Continentals are really good engines. I really love the way those sound through those augmentor tube exhaust too!

How do you make a small fortune? Start with a large fortune and buy an airplane! 😉

Certificated airframe and power plant mech here, I am seriously jealous of that find. When I got my certificate in college, I worked on one of those! a 310R! Easily my favorite airplane in our hangar. It had been trashed by so many other students working on it. I had to do a mock annual on one of the engines that wouldnt start. Wound up being a timing issue. As soon as I set the timing correctly, she fired right up. Few things are more satisfying. Id love to have one, but a lot of the 310s out there that are active are pretty pricey, and old ones that need a lot of work usually require more money than they are worth to get airworthy again. Such a shame.

Jimmy that was amazing. Credit must go to the owner for doing a great job of taking care of those engines.

You got a good deal with the 310. I’ve been looking for a Cessna 310 myself, and it looks like you found the perfect one to work on, invest in, and bring back to life. 310 is absolutely the keeper. Working on restoring this one, would definitely be a video series, that I would absolutely watch!!!
