Clint… thanks for helping the Cap’n out. I watched you pull it out and haul it… so I know it wasn’t easy or cheap. But, you sent it to the right place for a resurrection. If this project follows true to Cap’n K form… Soon, it’ll be doing stuff no backhoe was ever designed to do!

Cap’n she’s a beaut! It won’t be long before you have her purring like a lion… unless you put a muffler on it… then we’ll say ‘kitten’. A while back Neil Koch and I had a conversation about “tinkering”. We agreed that some of us get satisfaction from repairing, restoring or repurposing things. Every decision, effort and part you put into it builds that satisfaction. Although the gain from having a working gadget is a factor, the majority of the reward comes from having solved the riddle. Especially when you look at the object and see all of your personal touches in the finished product. Me thinks this project has a lot of opportunities for a ‘tinkerer’ like you to bathe yourself in satisfaction! Thanks for taking us along for the adventure!

I am by no means a mechanic; I spent a lot of time cutting my teeth on a 555B owned by one of the Methodist Camps I work with, which taught me a lot. It kicked my butt, but I learned a lot. I'm amazed you didn't show the frustration you must have had undoing the back bolts on the fuel tank. We rebuilt the injection pump, cleaned the tank, and still had weird fuel delivery issues that nobody else had the patience for, so I'm sad to say that machine went away this spring. The more I researched to keep ours going, the more quirks turned up for different machines. I am eager to watch your progress as you get this one going again.

I'm a sub to the C&C equipment channel and from what I've seen and from Mike Dirt Perfect's commentary about Clint and his crew he's definitely an outstanding owner / operator with a business plan other business owners should emulate. When it comes to replacing all the missing areas on the cab the best way to weld in new metal is with Tig welding. It's earier to kearn and cheaper than stick welding material wise. Plus it gives a better looking weld. There's plenty of how to Tig weld tutorial vids here on KZbin. Most arc welders have adapter kits for Tig welding available. At one point in my work history I was an Ironworker certified welder. I had that kit for my personal arc welder at home for home projects. All in all this series looks like it's gonna be a really entertaining one watching the Captain getting this rust bucket working again and it'll definitely be handy on his overgrown homestead property and building projects.

This little Ford takes me back half a century Thought what are they thinking of a three cylinder tarctor? Never take off and yet it was one of their better engines to service, repair and generally work on. We even brought out a 523 IH and it was far to tchnical and complicated to catch on and the Ford kept on kept on. You Mike have a great project to learn from and when and I mean when you understand it a tad more and it becomes a runner you will wonder, how did we manage before the 555 arrived. An awsome machine and I look forward to watching and living the project through your KZbin postings. The thing about the project is if you get stressed with something all you have to do is look for something that needs some welding and straightening, it is amazing how much a hammer helps with stress if you have something worthwhile that need hitting. lol. What I have learned for diesel engines is. They love fuel pressure. The more pressure the better. Since you barley got they to squirt. I would look at the pump and make sure the lines are clear. Even if you have a good pump that water could clog the lines with rust. Tank to injectors. Bleed all the lines to rule it out. Get matt from diesel creek he pretty good at fixing old equipment.

Mine turns over a lot faster. Make sure you check the filter in the bottom of the tank, mine fell off and debris would clog up the line. I wanna say $20-30 got me a new valve with strainer.
