Third Lanark AC were a football club that were once champions of Scotland. As well as winning the Scottish top league, they also won the Scottish Cup on two occasions.
They used to play at Cathkin Park which is now a spooky, abandoned stadium!

My older brother first took me when I was wee and the stadium was still there with the shelters. My brother had a look of sadness as they were a great Glasgow club that went under due to corruption..A real shame . A very emotional video, thank you

I go to cathkin quite often just to feel the history I wish they could rebuild and put 3RD Lanark back in. I live in the north of Glasgow Springburn we had Cowlairs FC a founder member and Northern FC both teams were from the neighbouring locomotive companies there is nothing left here to show were the grounds were but I know where they where it would be good to cover them I could send you GoPro footage or details of the area Cheers Billy Graham

My father was a third fan in the early days and was at the last game at catkin Park against Queen of the South. He went on to watch Queens Park but he could not go on watching football as his heart was at third lanark. He never went to another football match.

I live at the back of the park on the main road , and lived her for over 15 years and the park is amazing throughout the year so cool in autumn with fog , looks great in the snow and in spring summer the trees and animals everywhere its quite a lovely place. Loads of people use the park to play sports and in general relax and walk their dogs. Its amazing just how much fitbaw history is within 100 metres of each other from the first hampden across the road and the queens recs and cathkin park.

Another great vid Sam, I’m old enough to remember Third Lanark results being read out on Grandstand on Saturday Afternoons, shame they were run in to ground by a corrupt chairman. As a Englishman if Third Lanark were still around they would be my favourite Scottish club, I would love to see the Hi Hi revived and back playing in the Scottish League. Hope somebody has the money to revive them one day soon.

Visited it, also in the freezing cold and was amazed to see the abandoned terraces, the surrounding pitch boundary wall and even pitch markings still there. I believe it was also the forerunner of Hampden just down the road and had internationals played on it. Remarkable place, very atmospheric, very easy to imagine an old-time match being played there.

Ernest Hemingway said a person has two deaths. One when we die and one when someone last mentions our name. It’s the same for a football team. They’ll have mattered so much to someone. I know no one died but it’s a sad loss.

Another great video! That perimeter wall is the original as are the terraces. The red barriers aren't though, the originals were concrete and removed for safety reasons. There were plans to restore Cathkin a couple of years ago but nothing seems to have happened. Bill Hiddlestone the Chairman was a crook and bled every dime out the club. He never faced trial for it, he died of a heart attack a few months after the ground shut down in 1967. The main stand suffered a fire started by vandals not long after it closed, then 2 or 3 months later there was another fire in the same stand.

Another great video. Cathkin in a colliseum of what could have been. Their first ground was located across from Dixon Halls about 1/2 mile closer to the city, which they played at for 30 years before moving into the 2nd Hampden. There were a couple of other teams that played in that area too. Including Granville and Southern, which you will spot in the early Scottish Cups. Amazing area for football.

I thank my lucky stars that Dunfermline managed to dodge disappearing, too. Though I used to laugh at Starks Park as the train rumbled past, I'm glad Raith are doing well. It's tragic when local teams disappear. I still remember a Pars away game vs Celtic where more people from Dunfermline got on Celtic supporter's buses than did for us. Local support might have help 3rd Lanark.

Nice video again Sam. Really liked that transition at 2:26. Cathkin is really cool for an explore. Good section about Thirds in the Hampden Museum whenever you get the chance to go. Saw Port Glasgow Athletic in the 1904 League Table they are worth an investigate. Strong amateur team that just weren't quite sustainable. Glasgow Cup still officially in use for OF youth and Clyde, Partick Thistle and Queen's Park first teams but none of them have taken it too seriously.

Went to Cathkin Park a few times as a youngster in about 1964 still have fond memories of the old ground. I am a Rangers fan but always had a soft spot for Thirds because my late cousin played for them in 1956. He won a Glasgow Charity Cup winners medal when they beat Partick Thistle 4-2 in the final at Hampden Park, his medal is in the Hampden Park museum. He scored one of the goals that day. So sad to see this club fold.

My ex wife's cousin played some games for the 'Hi Hi', his first game was a reserve match at Celtic Park and he was up against Jimmy Johnstone. He said 'jinky' ran rings round him. Alan Shields Hamilton South Lanarkshire Scotland. I believe Corinthians ( London) Where the first football club to go on tour full stop. www.corinthian-casuals.com/corinthian-tours.html# See link They are now Corinthian Casuals. I dont believe this 3rd Lanark amateur club should be allowed to step up in to senior football at all quite simply we have far to many senior clubs already in my view for the size of population we had pre Pandemic never mind post pandemic if anything we need to cut the number of senior clubs not add more to them. I dont see whare 3rd Lanark would find a fanbase of any great size from to be honest with Queens Park & Pollok close buy I just dont see it as feasible at all times move on & unfortunately like so many of the old clubs I domt honestly see how they could of possibly survived in this era of football myb only Saint Bernards & Abercorn could of survived potentially to the modern era. Abercorn are an Amateur team now a days aswell up until pree Pandemic at least. Abercorn being a Paisley club how had a fairly nomadic existence & fell in to financial problems like a good few clubs did in that era. Keep Safe Sam & never mind that 66 rubbish lol. We got one over the Old enemy in Rugby Union on Saturday winning at Twickenham for the first time since 1983. You picked the wrong day to mention 1966 Sam better luck next time England lol.

Haha I can't not mention the mighty win at wembley when I stumble across something that happened in 66. Yeah I heard about the rugby, but I'm very much football only. A shame no fans were in Twickenham to witness the win though. Interesting points about the amount of teams. I always find it amazing how many teams there are up here. For instance a small town like Largs has two clubs!!

@@FootyAdventures You can mention 1966 as many times as you like Sam honestly it's no big deal to me we are all British at the end of the day us Scots just tune out mentality when we here 1966 or 66 full stop then we tune back in mentality when the subject changes slightly again lol. a win against England for us always welcome not like it happens to often what ever the sport is we have to cherish the moment when it dose happen. small victorys as my Mother always says they all count it's a bit like Saint Mirren winning a Cup when we beet England you not likely to see it to often in your lifetime. It did take the shine of winning The Calcutta Cup with no fans in Twickenham slightly. If it's Sport & Scotland has a team I am all in. I have always felt In Scotland we have far to many senior clubs it's not like we have a population when yii think.london has as many people as all of Scotland it kind of makes you think if you look at the size of The U.S.A & think The N.F.L only has 32 teams & we have a hell of a lot more football club in Scotland the numbers dont add up fanbase wise at all when you think how many fans The Old Firm pull in & then you have Aberdeen how pull in a lot for The size of population we have it's not leveing a lot of fans for other clubs & with players wages going up & up with every passing season more & more clubs will go in to Administration as the seasons go on I honestly feel that true. You must be getting itchy feet about wanting to travel again buy this point me first place I am going when possible is Perth to watch Saint Johnstone.

Like I said in the video, that was stadium related, this is more about the team themselves. Plus my videos have improved a lot since I first came here again like I said. I'll see if I can get any video ideas from your two videos that have a combined 79 views ;)

@@FootyAdventures passive aggressive Sam is amazing. Great video as always mate. Real commitment to gobout in a blizzard. Also, since you've done every spfl team, could you do a 'visiting every highland/lowland league stadium'? Some of the stadiums are amazing. Some teams, like Cumbernauld Colts and East Stirlingshire ground share with Clyde and stenhousemuir respectively

If you do any English vids check out the old Bradford park AVE stadium or what's left of it, they have an interesting history.
