On New Years Day 1968 I attended my first Scottish football game of Clyde v Celtic at the Shawfield stadium. I was in Glasgow visiting my granny for Hogmanay, and my uncle lived in walking distance of the ground. Celtic won the game 3-2, and I've had a soft spot for Clyde ever since.

Brilliant video... love all your videos, but this one in particular I'd love an even more in depth look at Clyde, and other clubs in general too. I actually even started as Clyde FC in an FM23 save game because that always draws me a little closer to a club... have to say, if I was going to support a Scottish team (as a an Englishman who has been a lifelong Wolves fans) then Clyde might be the sort of club I'd be interested in :)

Until I moved down south in 2003 I used to watch Clyde at every home match and some away matches depending on work. It's sad to see them sliding down the leagues, such a good club to be about. For your info, when Clyde won the 1955 Scottish Cup, beating Celtic in the replay. The final was played in front of over 106.000 at Hampden and was the first Scottish Cup Final to be televised live, had a certain Jock Stein playing for Celtic. 👍👍

Clyde? Good club. Excellent fans. Speaking as an Annan supporter, Clyde fans are top quality. A fine old Club. This video is fitting tribute and recognition. I would be interested in knowing definitively about the origins of the Bully Wee nick name. The theory about the french tourist game; and dispute over a goal intrigued me. Players asking the ref, “but oui, but oui”. Re pitches? Carlisle United have a pitch like a snooker table! All grass, so it can be done in a wet climate! I’d band the knee slide though! Make a yellow card offence.

They are called the bully wee because in victorian times if someone or something were doing well they would say "bully for you" a common phrase was "bully the wee Clyde' because of our larger neighbours, this was rearranged into the bully wee or should I say the famous bully wee.

Alan Shields Hamilton South Lanarkshire Scotland. Good video Sam very informative. You should 100% cover ether Livingston or Clydebank as they have similar history's to Clyde in both have been nomadic the same way Clyde have been. Livingston where originally could Ferranti Thistle do to the team being made up of workers from The Ferranti Electronics company they asked the owner for money for kits & a ball when they went to the shop to buy the kits I believe it was a Taylors shop they had absolutely no football kits left the only kits they had whare Rugby kits the shirts where amber & & black hooped shirt with white collars that is why even now as Livingston they play in Amber, black & white. Livingston them moved to Meadowbank Stadium a stones throw from Easter Road home of Hibernian the same way Clyde played in the shadows of Celtic Park They changed there name to Meadowbank Thistle as Edinburgh City Council need a permanent tenant for the Stadium after the Commonwealth games in Edinburgh then from there they where bought buy a consortium of ex Celtic boad members that had won the lottery & acquired land from West Lothian Council & built Amendvale Stadium in Livingston & changed there name to Livingston F.C. It was could Almondvale as the river Almond runs past the ground.

@@FootyAdventures Between 2011 & 2013 I used to go & watch Livingston if I was though there as that is whare my ex came from so used to go with her Dad at times & I always bought a program that's how I learned so much about there history. Could be all day talking about Clydebank they have a tun of turbulent history from Davie Cooper playing for them to a proposed move to Dublin that never happened . You could say for a will Clyde F.C went to The Dogs lol.

On the plastic pitches I reckon every Scottish side will have them in the next 10 year bar maybe Celtic and Rangers. Not only do they prevent games being postponed, as part of the governments new school delvelopment plan all new schools built in Scotland have an astroturf pitch for the same reasons.( So kids can play football and sometimes other sports like Hockey year round) Most towns also have pitches for hire that are Astroturf too so I reckon with kids coming through the youth system that have played on Astro their whole life they will be a lot better suited to playing on it in the professional game as compared to the current players that many began playing in the 90s as kids. As a Killie fan we were an early adopter of the pitch and have been blamed for causing injury but it only started when we became a tougher top 6 side and were beating the old firm and Edinburgh clubs. The pitches are great in my opinion.
