Hi Wallie, Apologies for this comment being a bit off topic to this video. I just wanted to comment on how much I've been enjoying your videos. I was born and raised in Pittsburgh. Lived both in the South Hills (Beechview) and in Aspinwall before I moved out of state 10 years ago. I remember being at several of the places you featured. I even worked at the Walmart at the Waterworks Mall from 2003-2007. The first video I watched was the Dairy Queen in Greentree. I went there many times in in the 80s and 90s with my mom and my sister. We'd get our ice cream and sit on the wall between the DQ and the McDonald's. So many fond memories of these places. Thank you for this trip down memory lane. Michele P.S. Another Penguins fan here! Let's Go Pens!

That Church’s Chicken is on the corner of Glenview and Booth Calloway. It’s now a donut shop. My Grandma lived and passed away in the Nursing Home across the street and my Grandpa lived in Brookdale facility on the other side of the pharmacy next door. We used to bring my grandmother Church’s Chicken often. But that was back in 2012. This was a great video.

So back in the very early 1990's, I ate ate Cajun Joe's Chicken on rt. 119? in Uniontown and they were awesome. Sadly, they closed down like 3 months later, but for a decade I drove past their sign and abandoned store. Bizarrely, they are based out of Michigan. They made some real good spicy fried chicken and corn bread.

So years ago ,1990's I think , we had Church's Chicken here in Canada, but only for a short period of time . Not a Church's Chicken proper restaurant but the " Harvey's " burger chain had Church's Chicken available . It was a suprise ! I had Church's Chicken in Detroit, Michigan in the early 1990's,also . As I recall ,it was very good,along the lines of Popeye's . I don't know what the deal was with Harvey's but it did not last - 3yrs max, I think . We now have Popeye's and they are just decimating KFC ! KFC was good in their day but have slipped . I swear they have changed the recipe and not favorably .

Can't believe you never heard of Church's. I grew up with Church's. I know they've been around more than 60 years. They are very generic. Back in the 70s they were known as the poor mans chicken franchise. You could get a 2 piece meal for a $1... As time went on they started to cut back on the ingredients for there chicken. They had a beer battered recipe. You also could get 10 pieces for $4.
@benjaminvlz4 жыл бұрын
I had fried chicken from Church's once. I didn't care for it, to be honest. When it comes to the national chain restaurants that sell fried chicken, I prefer the taste of KFC or Popeye's. KFC has some bad business practices as it pertains to the treatment of their chickens, but I won't get into that. Their chicken still tastes good, nonetheless. I love the taste of the breading they use.

Wallie, I can give you an idea of the menu, at least from the VERY SUCCESSFUL Puerto Rico operation (2nd in fried chicken fast foods after KFC). Fried chicken bone-in pieces (as few as a single piece w/o sides), several chicken sandwiches, several specialties (sandwiches on Texas Toast comes to mind), even prepared pasta dishes and lots of sides (most on the bland side), sweet biscuits, soft-serve ice cream and other desserts. A huge "chavito" value menu w/U$1.29 (breakfast) and U$1.39 (lunch / dinner) items, including smaller sandwiches and single pieces of bone-in chicken and chicken strips. I wonder how varied the menu is in TX vs. in PR (a single franchisee owns all stores here)...

I've heard of Church's Chicken before never here in the United States but there is one by my grandmother's house in Puerto Rico I thought they were a Puerto Rican chain and only in Puerto Rico but apparently not. Wonder where they're located here in the United States other than Puerto Rico. I only remember Church's Chicken as the place by my grandmother's grocery store next to the Burger King. And yes because the United States own Puerto Rico they have Burger King a McDonald's and even at least by my grandma's house by the Walmart a Little Caesars pizza. And yes even Walmart at one time this was before hurricane Maria in before Eddie lampert shut them down they had a Kmart. I always see Church's Chicken going through the towns in Puerto Rico but I would never stop there though because my grandma always wants to cook a nice home-cooked meal and never eat fast food.

these places used to be everywhere similar to how McDonald's is except not to that extent. then they changed their recipe and lost so much business that they closed a lot of their stores. I think they are making a comeback now but they never changed back to the old recipe to my knowledge. Then again i haven't had the old recipe chicken (or any Churches Chicken) since I was 5. I think they made a new recipe that people liked. all i know is that first blunder is probably why this location and all of them except one in the CSRA area of GA only has on Churches left (a little past the mall). The rest of them are in downtown Augusta and are closed up tight with boards. Not sure about the SC part of the CSRA.

Never had Church's, myself, either. Mainly because we don't have them in NY state...yet I still hear Church's ads on the radio every now and then (same case with O'Reillys, before they started opening stores in Upstate NY). That place is TINY! Bad reviews AND little eat-in space (I've seen more eat-in space at a Domino's or Little Caesar's, lol), no wonder the place went out of business. Yikes!

There should be a lot of Church's Chicken stores in TX because they started there (in San Antonio) in 1952. Church's bought Popeye's in 1989, but kept the brand names separate, which they kept until 2004, when Church's was sold to an investment group. Since 2017 Popeye's Louisiana Kitchen (full name) is part of Restaurant Brands, Inc. . It is the same division of Brazilian-owned 3G Capital (part-owner of KraftHeinz) that owns both Burger King and Tim Hortons.
