Get a 3M Stripe Off Wheel Adhesive Remover Eraser Wheel to remove the crap off the underside of the bonnet. I used it to remove the old adhesive tape that held my old rear spoiler on the boot lid. Removed the old tape like it was never there and did not damage the paintwork at all.

The paint under the bonnet seems to be about one micron thick with no clear coat, the glue seems to be pulling the paint away in places. Imagine it will probably need the underside painting... Or maybe a smaller more fitting sound insulation fitting. Which could be a neat solution! :)! ~ That looks a lot like a caramel wheel, which also was slow progress when we tried it.

One item I found with Corvettes, Cadillacs, and other GM cars that sat a while is to go through as many of the wiring connectors as you can, check them, and clean them with contact cleaner, soft metal brush, and even a little WD-40 after cleaning to keep the water away. These cars tended to be finicky with their wiring resistance, grounds, etc.

If you have a shop of there that can test the fuel injectors that they are spraying to spec. I believe you can get re-build kits for them. Glad you are saving it. There is a guy in Florida that is supposed to be good with ZR-1. Leo's Corvettes in Pensacola, Fl.
@Auto_Funk3 ай бұрын
We made a good start on it anyway! :D Long ways to go, but best to get it out of there. We actually put 16 brand new injectors in, new pumps, all filters, and cleaned out the fuel system pretty extensively, even the tank (it was basically full of water where the drain hole had blocked and filled the tank). Flushed out the lines and the rail. It should be pretty clean we hope! We're fairly sure its ECU related, primarily because it did the same fault on the red ZR-1 we tested it on in ep.12. It's likely to be a failing chip or a solder joint on one of the surface mount components somewhere. :( Thankyou for the support! Just looked up Leos Corvettes FL, he has some stock!

Nothing extraordinary, but let's not forget that those were different times and the Sierra weighed more or less like a new Fiesta today (1,200 kg), so those 150 horses allowed it to go from 0 to 100 km/h in 8 seconds and reach a top speed of over 200 km/h.

I hope you have a great time at the show, weather forecast looks good so don't forget your suncream! That is not a bad shout, that might break it down, I will test an area on that.
@Lumber_Jack3 ай бұрын
Great progress! Your rotating brush (or slightly stiffer nylon wire wheel) will probably do a good job taking off the foam, but cover the engine first or take the hood off the car, since the foam crumbs will fly everywhere. Test a spot to make sure it doesn't hurt the fiberglass surface under the foam, but I suspect it will be OK.
@Auto_Funk3 ай бұрын
That brush isn't as stiff as it looks but it might work! Should be enough to rip that dusty old foam everywhere... Once I (Chris) got board removing foam I spent most of that video cleaning as much as I could from under the engine bay so it looked as presentable as possible... So must remind Llew to cover that up before going at that idea though!
@Lumber_Jack3 ай бұрын
@@Auto_Funk Yeah, and if your brush isn't stiff enough there are all sorts of wire wheels used for stripping paint and refinishing furniture that should work. I have one with thick (1/16") nylon bristles that would probably do a great job removing the foam and adhesive without scratching the fiberglass. I'd avoid any of the metal wheels, even the gentle ones. This is a tedious job even with power tools but they really help.

Having DTC 31 and stating that the fuel injectors are not sequenced properly makes sense. If the cam sensor can't sense or the signal can't be processed by the ECM, the ECM has no way to synchronise the injection with the intake valve opening. The injection will then only rely on the reference signal provided by the ignition module (the crankshaft position). Engine will then run poorly.

At idle you won't even be close to maxing out the duty cycle on the injectors unless they are significantly undersized for the application.

@@Auto_Funk I have a hobby of refurbishing business laptops, and they often come with all sorts of stickers and glue residues. I've found IPA to be the most effective in getting rid of glue residues without harming the surface underneath (be it bare or painted metal or even the black soft touch coating of a ThinkPad). Working on an area that vast would cause some serious fumes though, so I'd consider wearing a mask even outdoors. In my experience, citrus oil based glue remover works alright but typically is not as effective as IPA, but might be the cheaper (and perhaps healthier) option.

A proper steam cleaner and a ozone generator will kill the remaining mould stuck in all the nooks and crannies. You should be able to rent the equipment. Actually ozone generators are quite cheap to buy from China. Just got to be careful using ozone on organic materials (leather and rubber).

How come the ECU didn’t go back to the Saab guy for another go?
@Auto_Funk3 ай бұрын
Basically he went through all the solder pin solder joints, tested the transistors and tested for continuity everywhere and that was all fine. He thinks there must be a dodgy chip and basically there isn't much he can do about that as they're unavailable. (Well in the UK anyway)
@dalamar62283 ай бұрын
Yes I’ve had the same struggles with my TVR ECUs such as the heater control ECU. It is possible to find some of the discontinued chips from China and the US but it takes some hunting around. Fingers crossed for you on this one.

I wonder what the UK ecm repairer failed to fix
@Auto_Funk3 ай бұрын
Either a failing chip, or perhaps it has bad data in it from bad 02 sensors as some people have suggested! Which is worth a shout for sure before it goes away!

That drill brush is way to harsh. it'll even ruin carpet. Just grean soap and horsehair brush for the leather.
@Auto_Funk3 ай бұрын
I (Chris) thought it was too harsh as well, but Llew assumed me it was fine... Didn't seem to do any damage though fingers crossed as basically no pressure was applied. I agree if any pressure was applied it would pull the pile up.

@@Auto_Funk My experience is different, hence the comment. Ruined a good set of floormats and had to re-dye the leather. (Both from a 993 Porsche, so quality materials). After that i refused anything power tool related in the interiors. 😅

The paint is really thin and has no clear coat. Its quite powdery to the point even wiping firmly with hot soapy water does pull off the paint. So I don't think we have much chance of removing the foam without the paint being damaged.

Lads I would definitely recommend you using some gloves and masks for all of this work, that looks pretty nasty in there, I would say there are some dangerous airborne spores circulating, would hate to see you both end up looking extras from the walking dead. You wont realise it but you will touch your eyes, mouth and nose subconsciously!!
