Hidden Time Capsule
Located on a large parcel of land sits this abandoned red brick farmhouse. It has the typical Ontario farmhouse charm, with stained wood trim work, a beautiful and ornate staircase, tall ceilings and even a transom window. It was likely lived in by one farming family for decades but had more recently been broken up into smaller apartment type sections while still retaining that farmhouse charm. Most of the house was relatively empty, except for the attic that is, which held a treasure trove of surprises!
The property, along with the one next door were sold for $18 million and they have been sitting abandoned for about 2 years. They will eventually be developed along with the surrounding area as progress marches on.

Interesting house - especially the gems in the attic. Hopefully they will be rescued. The wooden star-chair is absolutely beautiful - it took my breath away! It's a shame that this place will eventually decay and collapse and those treasures inside will be lost. Thanks for showing us this Static Space!

I’m with you! He posted photos of this lovely home on Reddit; though he definitely should’ve posted the bookshelf filled with all those old books, but that was a lovely surprise! I hit subscribe right then and there 😂 I love old books as well. My greatx2 grandfather was a Superintendent & a teacher, and luckily I was able to find some of his old books in a trunk just like the one in the attic! But I am with you, I wish someone would get those books! What an incredible find and a cool piece of history. Plus people used to put all sorts of things in books so who knows what someone could’ve put in between a page! I also love how that Mathematics notebook seems to be in prime condition as I’m not a big math person myself 😂

The second kitchen has the same cabinets as I have currently. Built in 1964. Simple, but quality craftsmanship. The stone is the older part of the basement. The brick is a bit of a newer version. I never saw a coal shoot, but they could have replaced it with a newer window. Good job exploring.

Yes I really enjoyed this video. What a treasure of a house that would be a major shame to lose. Yes the attention to detail. All the wood trim and staircases and that fireplace mantel with the beveled glass stunning. I would have preferred blue tile but…. The attic was so full of treasures. Someone needs to save them. The 100+ year old piano book!! I could spend an entire day in that attic exploring. Wallpapers seem so durable. Love them. I would much rather live in this house lovingly restored than in any multimillion dollar modern made eyesore. Thanks James for sharing this! The basement was a bit creepy but add some lighting and have the bugs and spider webs cleaned out. Still in great shape despite the 100 plus year age. How many 40 year old homes do yo all visit with irreparable water damage in basements. Thanks again! I just love these vintage homes!
@StaticSpaces
@StaticSpaces 11 ай бұрын
Here's the thing, in an active house, I wouldn't be creeped out by that basement at all. In fact, it was merely the possibility of running into squatters that I didn't like. That's a very good point too, a lot of the basements today are not designed with fail safes in case of flooding. I think a lot of these older homes have, (let's call it an overflow) to keep the water from flooding the basement in case of emergency. Glad you enjoyed this one Karrie and thanks so much for the comment!!

Down here in Texas it’s pretty common out in the country to at the very least see a barn decorated for Christmas, so I would bet that huge wreath went somewhere on the exterior of the barn! I saw your post of this house on Reddit and I’m so glad I followed the link to this video! Incredible home that had to have been worth quite a bit of money back then. Hey my friend , this is such a phenominal house and the attic with all the vintage furniture from the turn of the century and I just marveled at the pieces of furniture that seems to still be in good condition ,definitely was quality crafted pieces back then, the books and those pieces of piano sheet music were a musicians passion,so my perception would be someone had a music back ground and even was perhaps a university professor, music appreciation ,it was equally awesome to hear your reaction and inquiring minds maybe you have a music passion ,the entire tour was really quite admirable ,you do very well in filming and narrative of history is captivating, I love the vintage craftsman of the wood work strategically designed throughout, would love to own a vintage farm house circa turn of the century and maybe later, once again I really enjoyed this tour .

Actually liked the floral wallpaper. Unique mathematical notebook. So many wonderful treasures in the attic!! The Star chair was exquisite! I really love old trunks and books! The wallpaper in the fireplace room was elegant but definitely not my style. Nice fireplace. I personally love the green tiles of the fireplace but they don’t match the vibe of the house. Bay windows are wonderful! Boy, I’d kill for a house that big!! Noticed the kitchens were sunny yellow. That’s a huge wreath! Probably goes outside somewhere. You can guarantee it cost quite a bit of money! The staircase rails were beautiful. Wonderful woodwork and fantastic wood furniture too! Gotta find a way to save those antique books! They should be in a museum! Pains me to see all the history that gets left to fade away!

There mustn't have been any Insulation in that House, judging by all the Base board Heaters in the Green Carpeted room! 🥶 And to Add to your Drop-Ceiling comment, that's Probably due to Ease Off, the Loss Of Heat, from High Ceilings. I never saw the Sense in High Ceilings for that Very Reason! I'd Def want to Heat that Place on Solar! Some of those Book Covers, look like they're from the '40s, at Least! It'd be really Nice to Reproduce a Couple of those Chairs-Such amazing Designs! Those Music Books were Ancient... U should have Read some of those Song Titles! Yes, I would imagine that the insulation in this home wasn't the greatest, you can see, even in the basement where they added some insulation somewhat recently. Hi James! What a great farm house! When you said you thought it had been converted into apartments I wasn’t expecting to see so many original features or much of an original layout but it was brilliant! Loved all the original stained wood and it’s a real shame some of the original wood was painted over, but I just love that original deep and stained wood. Just brilliant and that original staircase with the newell post. Just waow. Then you went into the attic and oh my…waow!! All the old stuff was SO interesting! I could spend quite a while up there going through everything. Be quite stuffy though 😂. I definitely prefer these types of places to the modern places. Especially the very modern places. I live in Florida and am wondering if houses like these get drafty and cold in the winter? Those windows don't look very thick or insulated.
@StaticSpaces
@StaticSpaces 11 ай бұрын
They can yes, older homes that haven't been retrofitted especially. But you may have noticed that they added extra insulation to the upper part of the basement walls by the second staircase. So with older homes like these, you have to spend a lot of money on upgrades. Mind you the insulation power of double glazed windows, only lasts about 10 years anyway, so you have to keep that in mind when replacing. BTW, I am jealous of the climate you live in! Glad you were insured! I know what you mean about dealing with insurance agencies though, not fun at all! 😂 best of luck getting the rest sorted if it hasn't been already!

@5:59 - How irritating to see yet another fridge that opens the wrong way, opening to a blank wall instead of the handy little counter next to it. If it came with the apartment then it's sloppy planning on the landlord's part and inexcusable. Of course, it might have been the renter's and didn't come with the apartment, so you work with what you have. Looks like it was a hard working old house that made an income for the owners as well as a place for them to live, at least at first. I miss these mom & pop rentals because you were dealing with real people and there was an element of trust and respect on both sides (usually!). From what you've shown in the attic I'd guess that it was turned to apartments in the depression or perhaps during the war years and remodeled over and over. I was hoping the basement would've been an apartment for the landlord/lady. I imagined an old crone who would only emerge to collect rent or go marketing. Alas, not so. Sorry this comment is so long but there's so much here that interests me. A great video of a wonderful house. It would take very little to make this a masterpiece for it's time. Thanks for bringing it to us.

Ya, I mean they could have just switched the door to fix that problem, but maybe that wasn't where it was originally placed in the room. It was interesting to see that stuff in the attic because it makes it seem like the house was only owned by one family for its entire life. Glad you enjoyed the video and thanks so much for the comment!!

Oh, you were talking about the upstairs fridge, it's very weird that it opened from that side!
