We recently stumbled upon an abandoned funeral home and once when we stepped foot inside of this place, it immediately sent shivers down our spines. The place had been abandoned for several years as evidenced by the decaying walls and the scattered paperwork. To our amazement, we also discovered old eerie caskets, some appeared to have even been used, and a bone-chilling morgue - complete with a decrepit embalming room; with two twin porcelain slabs, embalming machine, makeup, and a plethora of various stainless-steel tools. The atmosphere inside this place was sure haunting, and we couldn't help but wonder about what had happened here and why everything was left behind. We had to push forward and uncover the hidden secrets of this now long forgotten funeral home.
In today’s video, we will be exploring an old abandoned funeral home that left everything behind. When the beloved owner of this funeral home passed away, it signaled the end of an era for generations of grieving families in the tight knit midwestern community. Before her untimely death, she was the last remaining family member to own and operate her father’s long standing funeral business, which had originally opened back in 1934. After she graduated from high school, with her father’s support and blessing, she went on to become a licensed cosmetologist and beautician, which would certainly benefit her in the future. As the years passed by and her father continued to grow and increase profits, naturally he got older and eventually his health began to decline. It was at this time that she went back to school to further her education by obtaining her Mortuary Science degree, all in effort to help her father’s funeral business.
With her experience as a beautician and cosmetologist, in addition to her education in mortuary science, she quickly succeeded her father and at that time saved her family’s funeral home from inevitable closure.
With her strong commitment and new found dedication, the funeral home didn’t seem to skip a beat and went onto help decedents and their families for several decades, providing comfort and professional service during times of grief and loss.
But this would all soon change when she would have her own health issues, leading to her passing away in 2012.
Unfortunately, her husband had already passed away a few years prior and without any biological children of her own, the fate of the funeral home was doomed. The decision to close the funeral home was undoubtedly a difficult one for the community to accept, mainly as it had been around for nearly 80 years.
Despite the untimely circumstances that led to the closure of the funeral home, the impact on the community was significant. For many locals it was much more than just a business - it was a place of comfort and solace during some of the most difficult times in their lives. The unexpected closure of the funeral home represents the loss of a trusted institution that provided a sense of stability and support to the area.
As the community mourns both the loss of the beloved owner and the funeral home, it is important to remember the legacy that they leave behind. From its dedicated staff to its standing legacy to serving families with compassion and professionalism, it will forever be remembered for its contributions to the surrounding community.
In conclusion, the unexpected closure of this once successful funeral home was a significant event that has left many people feeling a sense of loss and nostalgia, with its impact undeniable.
That will take us to the end of today’s video on this abandoned funeral home that was forced to close after the death of its owner.

Those metal caskets in the basement are called a ‘Ziegler Case’. They’re for the transportation of bodies, which have yet to be embalmed.

The two carts, in the embalming room, were casket biers. They put caskets on them for storage or display in a showroom. The metal casket are probably Ziegler cases. They a cheap no frills item with no interior, etc. Sometimes they are used for indigent people or for shipping especially when no embalming was desired.

@6:22 its a stokes basket First exhibited at the St Louis World's Fair in 1904, the Stokes basket or wire basket stretcher was conceived by the US Navy physician, Charles Francis Stokes (1863-1931) who, in the Spanish-American War, witnessed first-hand the difficulties of transporting wounded through a Navy ship's gauntlet of narrow gangways, ladders and hatches.
