I've learned to be careful around "dead possums". I had one like that in my back yard that I was trying to figure out how to clean up when I realized the term "playing possum" is based on a real phenomenon. The thing came back to life and fortunately bolted while I was grabbing a shovel to carry it away.

In my opinion the Structure is indicative of a roadside restaurant common to the 1920's and 30's. If this was a restaurant the small separate structure most likely was used as cold storage due to the thickness of the walls.

My grandpa gave me an old t.v just like that one when I was a very young teenager (about 12-13 yrs old) and he and I turned it into a fish bowl for my gold fish. When the gold fish died I had black molly's in it for a long time. When I grew up, got married and had my son, I gave it to him and he used it for his turtle..lol. When he moved out he took it with him...not sure if he still has it though..lol.

I'd have to see the area from father away. Seems to be multiple buildings. Maybe single level duplexes? ::shrugs:: That little TV is so kitschy. I love it. Vintage 1947-1954, judging by the cursive logo. Finding old electronics was one of my favorite parts of exploring.

Good to capture buildings like this in their final stage of decay before they collapse completely. Just the husk left.

possibly some sort of store on the left and store keepers residence on the right, from what I understand in the south thats how the Mom and Pop stores were setup back in the day

Hi Dan: Greetings from your Toronto fan again. I just wanted to say thanks for your recent videos. I have watched all of them since you guys left on the trip and they're fantastic. We're big Elvis fans and although we've been to Graceland twice, can you try to get some footage of the property while you're in Memphis. The Sun video was great and we look forward to many more. Take care and drive safe !

I keep thinking you're gonna stumble across the remnants of an old still out in these areas. That's what I thought the big cylindrical thing was in the brick shed, at first.

Unfortunately, this is not uncommon in Arkansas. Most cities in Arkansas are half-abandoned. Even in cities like Heber Springs & Greers Ferry, there are tons of buildings that are in terrible disrepair. Maintenance is apparently not a pressing issue in Arkansas. It's like Detroit, but the whole state.
@interrogatorchaplain95527 жыл бұрын
Unless you stay in North West Arkansas. Stay away from Pine Bluff, Palm Springs, and Harrison, and you should be fine. I'm a native to Fort Smith AR. My town is relatively safe, but Fayetteville and Bentonville are probably the best cities in Arkansas.

"This is Dan Bell, broadcasting to you - live - from Rotten Possum, Arkansas..." (I just couldn't resist!) But seriously - that was one place you visited that hadn't been tagged to death by graffiti, but possibly someone tried to burn it down? (The interior was just burnt tinder.) And how incongruous that on one of the ruined walls, a mirror was still hanging.(Lucky that you didn't break it; your next seven years should be smooth sailing...!)

Is it true that a possum is merely an oversized rat? BTW, my mom calls 'em "Opossum." Which is it...? Anyone...? Thanks. :)
@DestroyaDoll8 жыл бұрын
+Laura Tuller - It is traditionally spelled "opossum" but pronounced without the 'o'. Also, they are marsupials. Other marsupials are the koala, Tasmanian devil, and the wombat.

"--where folks keep eatin' possum 'til they can't eat no more," or so the old song goes. (Had a woodchuck eating my mom's flowers in the front yard of our cabin, and when I told my cousins, they immediately piped up, "Woodchucks good eatin'!" They also cooked up a raccoon, one time. I think Word went out amongst the citters to stay away from those skinny teenagers!
