I've literally done the same thing on a CB350F before! Lathe and all. The smoke might be from rings not seating yet, but on all 350 fours the valve guides are worn out too. They need to have .0008 to .0012 clearance with the valve stem and yes that is the right amount of zeros. Get some new guides, some reamers, an outside micrometer, and a pin gauge set and get to work guys! When they run right, they are smooth as silk and will do the ton all day long!

I second that opinion! Blaming the work you did on the lower end may be premature. It would be nice to see you guys go through that motor and identify/fix the issues. Great job of saving a piece of history guys! So now what to do...? Ya know, I think that you should get a set of OEM carbs (or exact replacement style), and a set of intakes and make her run really good... then perhaps a down and dirty restore on the rest of the bike. You know, take it apart, paint the frame, clean the tank and then take all of the chrome stuff that's rusty clean off the rust and paint those parts black. I think with the green tank with everything blacked out would look cool! This is just my opinion, but ya, fix it up so it can be a finished project! Keep making great video's!!!

I would agree, the black on green would look awesome. I know its not original aesthetics, but its already a far cry from factory fresh restoration. I took better care of that bike than anything i ever owned. It was a great piece of machinery It was green and black and beautiful. When I would wash it, which was several times a week, I made sure I would wash under the rear fender. The group I hung with said , “ To tell if a man takes care of his bike look under the rear fender. If it is clean you know that man takes care of his bike! Here's a quick tip for your press, get one of the Harbor Freight 20 ton pneumatic bottle jacks. They're prettymuch a modified 20 ton bottle jack with the controls of a regular bottle jack but an extra added mechanism to operate it quickly. You can hook the jack up to compressed air and just hit a button to operate the jack and move it instead of just having to pump it by hand. The best part is that you still have the spot for the handle so you can operate it manually if you wanted to.

First off, you can only get a true round bore and hone with the sleeves in the jug/block as the wall thickness needs the support. Then the bore gauge needs o be spun and take 3 measurements at the top and the bottom of each bore especially if the old pistons have any evidence of wear on the skirts but due to how a reciprocating engine works the pistons will egg a bore with time and cause localized wear specifically on the front and back of the wrist pins, more so on the front from the power stroke.

WTH John? Never heard so much negativity. Ike is still your partner? He's a good man brother. As a Master machinist, attention to the process and patience is key to success. The lathe isn't a bad way to bore a cylinder. 6 jaw chuck would have been better, however, you had a three jaw. Honing the jugs after they were back inside the jug fixture would have been the proper way to knock out the internal high spots from the lathe jaws to create a round bore. Sad this is the rings will more than likely never spin as they should and thus your smoking will never totally go away. John, lack of patience is not a good trait to show your viewers. Hope you don't lose that many. Great job Ike. Congrats Paul. Hope you and your sons enjoy assembling the mini. Thank your entire family for your service to the nation and it's inhabitants.
