Do you experience sadness when you discover these poor young men? I think it must be emotionally challenging to think of the last moments of their lives, as indicated by their injuries, and to uncover their long-lost remains. But it must also be very uplifting for the families of the men you exhume so carefully, and who finally get their loved ones back, for official burial. Thank you.

These German soldiers were bitter enemies at the time it's possible these German soldiers even performed horrific atrocities yet these guys treat them with respect and return them to their country and hopefully they will be buried with full military honor. This is proof even when we see the worst of humans we also see the best of humans. Much respect from the 🇺🇲

@Condobius3 жыл бұрын
@@fredreinhard2091 The vast majority of soldiers were at least aware of of the atrocities, and a good amount of soldiers directly participated in some form or another, whether that was carrying out the Commissar Directive, shooting “partisans”, reprisal killings, liquidation of villages, etc.
@fredreinhard20913 жыл бұрын
@@Condobius All I can speak about is my father's experience. He drove a tank from 1941 to 1935. Russia to Italy back to Russia and captivity. Lived thru 75 Combat Missions and never spoke of seeing atrocities. He did speak of the Russians killing wounded when territory was lost. All history is tainted for obvious reasons.
@Condobius3 жыл бұрын
@@fredreinhard2091 Your father was a fortunate man then. I’m going to go out on a limb and say being a tanker means his experience was somewhat different from the average infantryman because the tank units would never be tasked with liquidation operations or Bandenbekämpfung operations or necessarily witness atrocities on the advance. Or perhaps he simply didn’t speak on the subject or blocked it from memory due to the obvious implications of it. That being said, the historical research today very much indicates that the majority of Wehrmacht combat personnel were in some way shape or form aware of, witnesses to, or participants in, atrocities against the occupied populations or prisoners of war. Glad to see that your father was lucky enough to get through the conflict alive though, cheers!

Considering the fact that the first two soldiers were involved in an apparent artillery or mortar strike, with one being killed outright by an apparently close hit, I'm wondering if the other soldier was only wounded and then executed by Soviet soldiers that arrived later on to confirm their kill. That's probably why the boots were missing off of one of the Germans, it could be that one of the soldiers needed some new boots.

In the end, all where at the war 1938 - 1945, some and many died at the period but as at 2022, all could have been dead now. So weather fallen or went down by age, they were all at the same point of dead risk and now they are all gone. Back to the ground - the earth. The services still matters, righting wrongs. Without people standing to right wrongs, the world will be too horrible to live in.
