Well how wonderful is that!! Ye were so disappointed when you thought it was concrete. I have to say if there were prizes for hard work and can do attitude, ye would win them hands down. Xxx

Love the stone wall never mind what some are saying about it being too cold Certainly dont put a fake stone wall in front of the original that would be pointless I am guessing you have thick walls which retains heat i would leave that wall exposed only and put a stove there and plaster the rest as its too much in a small room to have all stone walls

What an excellent thing this is. Well done Dave of the Kango and his faithful sidekick - Sledgehammer Sal. You guys are so great, and what a lot of hard work is happening. If we don’t have some genuine sunlight and a little bit of warmth - we shall all go mad. Looking forward to brighter days ahead. Great to see you guys!

I absolutely love your positive attitudes! I’m at the point where I need to start thinking about exposing walls and attic space etc but I’m scared what I’m going to find under the plaster 😂

Stone rocks! I had a rough stone wall like that on my house from the 1920s when I took off the plaster. I had it sandblasted to clean it back and sealed the stone it with a satin sealer that brought out the colours and grain in it. You can get gloss and matt sealer but I found satin was the nicest and most natural looking.

If youre keeping the stone exposed inside scrape out the pointing & repoint gradually with lime mortar. Takeoff the exterior cement & plaster with lime or just scrape off the pointing & repoint with lime. Old stone houses walls need to breathe, don't use cement. Nice progress

It would be lovely if u keep the ceilings open the height will make it seem bigger, u just need to retie the rafters higher. A vaulted ceiling. Probably no foundations on any part of it, just a cottage base wall, thats all u need anyway, the weight of the mass is enough. That's all all old houses have & it's fine

My oh my, that ceiling was something else 1/2" chipboard? Stone walls look great, but your house will be cold as feck! The only alternative i think is to insulate and make a fake stone wall in front of the insulation, say 1 or 2" thick. Slow and awkward but reduces the insane heat loss down to not a lot of heat loss. My house was1800s but is mostly replaced and now has a rake of insulation - so we don't have to freeze our butts off, like in previous old houses.
@jeanrichardson20447 ай бұрын
I was thinking that, not a skarrick of insulation anywhere, must be freezing.
