Damn!! You guys saw those drawers at the end of the video?! They are called Kiri-tansu literally means a chest of drawers made of paulownia wood. When people get married, traditionally a bride would bring one to her husband's house although we don't practice that anymore. My grand mother has one in her house. What's amazing about it is that they are made sooo preciously and you can feel the air coming out from tiny thin gap between a drawer and a frame when you close it. Kiri is also the name of the wood, AKA Paulownia wood. Tansu means chest. I never heard them called kiri-tansu before just Tansu. The older ones are built in (3) sections which are stacked atop each other. This way the tansu pieces could be packed/moved by horses. They're known as "Kyoto" style, as they were built in this fashion before Tokyo became capital. I have 2 of these in my home that were brought with me from Japan. I worked with man who sold antiques to foreigners. He seemed amused that Americans were drawn to these old items the locals wanted to upgrade. Mine are appx 450 years old & not at all airtight. The joints are extremely well done & the wooden nails require a tap from a hammer occasionally.
