Abandoned Kmart & Big Lots Erie, Pa. This Kmart is the one I visited a couple of times when they were open last Summer. It closed in early October and had been sitting vacant since.

I grew up in that town many years ago. I remember that Eastway Plaza was always busy! My first job was across the street at the then brand new Giant Eagle. My next job was down the street at KFC.

I remember going to this Kmart as a kid - my dad (with his bowling league) would ring the bell for the Salvation Army for like 2 hours and my brothers and I had that time to do our Christmas shopping within the Kmart. I remember on mothers day stopping at the garden center to get flowers for my grandma because my dad always shopped last minute. My mom would also pick up trays of flowers from the garden center when spring arrived. And of course, back to school shopping - clothes and supplies. The Payless was a big hit for us, too. Weird - but not surprising - to see it like this. Erie is a very depressed area and seems to be dwindling. I moved away about 15 years ago myself. Definitely brought back a lot of memories though.

That big lots sure doesn't look like a big lots. It was probably an older location that was never updated since you can tell by the sign lol. I also went to Big Lots today in my town and I noticed that they also have a cart return lol.

Nice video, I could see this being re purposed into a Uhaul storage facility Thera are two such repurased Uhaul storage facilities here in the hi desert two in Apple Valley. CA one was K mart the other was a Lowes. A third is a Target that closed in Victorville now its a Legends gym and a car place together on the original Target. Also, former Gemco location.

The original sign was epic. Never liked the newer Big K signage. In high school (mid-70s) we’d go in and set all the wind up clocks to go off at the same time. lol. My dad would talk tp the security guard who was at his station just inside the main entrance on the left. My mom loved the Blue Light Specials.

My nearest Kmart used to be the Blaine, Minnesota location across the street from a ToysRUs and Northtown Mall. It's been closed since Christmas 2014 and nobody has moved in. It makes me sad because my family would always stop there before going on one of our rare trips to ToysRUs. Although Blaine is a pretty weak area, there are homeless people in the Wal-Mart parking lot a few times of the year down the street.

Both Kmart and Big Lots have been vacant since at least 2015 if I'm not mistaken. They're just sitting there rotting at the corner of Buffalo and Nagle. I'd personally love to see Menards expand into Erie, and that would be a perfect place for it.

Blog Man Cool! Not sure when the Kmart on 2535 Hubbell Ave. in Des Moines got rid of their neon sign ( guessing around 1980) that I remember seeing. Hadn't been to that store for some years least it didn't make the closing list yet. Across town in urbandale on Hickman, the store there is placed on the closing list come this April. 😥

Our Kmart in Rochester Hills, MI has been closed for several years (Halloween USA would open in it every October), but this year it will finally be repurposed into an Art Van Furniture (R.I.P. Art Van Elslander)!

Brandon McClain Landlords wanting to much rent these landlords see that these businesses are doing too good for them to stand it and they want more and more rent until it gets to be no matter how good the business is doing they just can't pay the rent and this is been going on ramp it in the last few years in the United States and there should be laws to protect businesses when thus happens!!!!

Looks like they chopped up the Kmart space in half and leased out to Big Lots before both businesses ended up going under. I had heard of Kmart doing this to former Super K/Big K locations and turning them into "regular" Kmarts instead. Leaving all the power on seems like such a waste though.

I worked at big lots. Hated it! Customers shoplifted like crazy but they had the cameras,to watch the employees. Us women even had to use clear bags for purses and be searched before leaving the store. Had to clean 💩 off the bathroom floors and walls. Pee and chewing tobacco off the floors through out the store. It was disgusting.
