the fire making bow: if you make a circular groove in the stick in the center, this will stop the string from wandering downwards, which pulls it out from under itself. surprised they didnt think of that.

When you turn the drill that fast it burns up the wood and leaves a very fine powder. Going slower means you get little pieces of not completely burned up wood that then will smolder making an ember. You don't need the smoke. Go slow, break off the little pieces until you have a pile in the wedge section, and then give it a quick burst to ignite.

When they were all talking about jumping in for a quick swim, the first thing I thought was watch out for jelly fish. Sure enough one of them got stung. Wild beach mean wild coastal sea life. Everything in the wild is alive and trying to kill you, nothing is safe even though you might get away with screwing around once or twice eventually you're going to get stung.

I swear, the one thing I wish they would do as part of their survival training prior to departing to the island is STRESS to the group the importance of time management and the division of labor. Never mind wasting energy frolicking in the surf and basking on the beach. WORK NOW. PLAY LATER. You know I used to like to watch Bear Grylls but when I found out that the longest running TV show that I learned a lot more from survivorman that Bear Grylls was trying to get him to do stunts and fake them and survivorman declined because he wants to do the real thing les Stroud but for Bear Grylls to be on a beach one night and spending the motel and coming back that's no way to survive but anyways if you want to learn how to survive and do it the right way survivor man is the way to go....
