A bit more history. The current fish market building was originally a Fairfax warehouse for big rolls of newsprint paper.

The existing fish market had a new lease of life with the building hosting many shops. In the early 80s, the site was just some random little shops scattered in 3 areas with free car parking in between. It was one of the few places that opened after Saturday noon or Sunday. After it had the current premises a fruit shop was opened. I know the owners and they thought at first who would buy fruits and vegetables in the fish market. However they were doing extremely well for being there. I also think part of "Finding Nemo" had a scene in the fish market featuring the seagulls.

I wonder if they will change the name of the Fish Market Light Rail stop, as it will no longer be the closest to the new markets, Glebe will be.

Good idea, maybe the existing Glebe will become Fish Markets and the existing Fish Markets will be something else

Interesting angles of the old and new fish market sites. Much closer then when I visited the fish markets and did a video on it (back on the last day of the bankstown line shut down) and just looked at it from across at a distance from where the crayfish traps were . My acquaintance mentioned that there was something special about the floor of the new fish market site - something about the marine life under it? It looks quite a walk from the existing light rail stop. Will be interesting to see if public transport to this famous tourist spot and institution changes to make it more accessible to everyone as the lighrail is very overcrowded to the existing fishmarket especially every weekend. Also intetesting what will actually happen to the old fishmarket site and where non fishmarket vendors which is near but not in the fish market building such as Vics Meats will do - whether they stay where they are or relocate closer to the new fishmarket site or just shut down.

Many a Sunday, going to the Market with friends, getting some Seafood and a bottle of wine from the On-Site Cellars and enjoying it in Park Next Door

It's been many years since I have been to the Sydney Fish Markets. Almost got kicked out last time because I flicked a bit of fish made dirty from falling on the table I was sitting at. The swarm of seagulls that brought, almost had me kicked out of the outside eating area. I'm glad it is being replaced with a modern building for modern times.

Chinese owners. Chinese builders. And all the vendors are chinese and east indians. The Fish Market is not Aussie any more. End of an era.

I see my old hospital where I was born at is about to someday be demolished. I was born at the hospital near Warrawong NSW. The hospital (Port Kembla District) is around 60 years old. Sadly on its "last legs". Maybe you could do like an browse around there.
