I mean, does this mean the man is now prevented from ever traveling abroad? He should however have declared it on arrival. In fact, he should have even known the facts regarding his former conviction before he left England. Now, on the other hand there is also the matter of him actually overstaying the conditions of his visa on a previous occasion by over two years and no... I do not believe his telling of the story that he just wanted to make sure his daughter has settled in and made friend and such. Sorry buddy, but that does not warrant a three year stay when your visa was clearly issued for only six moths. Asm per his 40 year old conviction, certainly yes. But staying 3 years on a 6 month visa is quite another bowl of soup. In that end, the young "power hungry" kid actually has no choice. If he is to wave the breach of a visa rule, the guy has to prove that it would cause great trauma or other serious consequences that he couldn't produce as he could see his grandchild outside Australia and thus was not subject to serious consequences when denied entry. Don't judge the guy doing his job properly as he is supposed to do. Judge the people who made the laws he has to uphold. And when you do, also give a thought to the reasons behind that law.

yup . some bs to exclude a guy for something that happened in 78. at least give him a 2 week and if he doesn't report to immigration after that put a warrant out for his arrest. Heart breaking to see an elderly gentleman declined access to his 5 week old grand daughter . pathetic Australia ! To be expected after how they treated Novak though

I believe everyone commenting on the grandad situation got it wrong. I’m 99% sure his visa got cancelled because of the major violation he committed the last time he was there - overstayed by 2.5 years. That’s a crazy long time. And he never paid the price for that. Until this moment. Also it’s really strange that border control didn’t realize how long he’s been there illegally when he was leaving the country after 3 years. Even without computers you could tell by checking the visa and the entry stamp.
