The earthquake, no. Being told a day in that they had to leave because of radiation...yes. Even the tsunami wouldn't be a shock, despite the warnings from their ancestors to never build bellow a certain part of their island. This is the price we pay for entrenching ourselves in a certain technology because we empowered certain individuals to decide for us, instead of us deciding for us. Not only do they make a lot of money, thus, a hook that can't be unhooked, but also, the governments get a lot of incentive to play with this technology. Mind you, all the materials used in reactors are expensive not because of the processes involved, at this point, no. But because they are rare. We're burning one of the rarest (attainable today) elements on our planet, because of some punks who ride in limousines and eat at expensive restaurants, and get paid in .00000 per month. Doesn't that just make you feel special?

Victoria Robertson I'd expect that they evacuated the bodies while leaving, (Only if they could, which I'm guessing they couldn't.) The families of the passed ones would not allow their loved one to be left behind, they'd want funerals or at least that's what I'd want. But I'm only guessing, I could be wrong.

*This is going to be a bit long, so bare with me please, if you can. Thanks. :)* My cousin used to live in Fukushima with her husband and two kids. I can still remember a special miracle that happened a day before this tragedy. So gonna share this because it's either by chance or God's good little way, (for us. :) ) So months before this tragedy happened, my cousin who lives in Japan was already planning to surprise us by visiting us here in our country and have a vacation, it's been a long while since we last saw her and her 4 months old son, who's by then is already 5 (I guess). (I'm skipping...he he) When the tragedy was already being aired and showed on news report on tv, we got worried so much about them because their kids (my nephew and niece) were still too young to carry themselves to this kind of disaster, even her and her husband. So we did all the things we can to contact them, but we can't reach them, which made us all worried BIG TIME!! Many hours had already passed and the disaster got even worse, with the tsunamis and earthquakes, floods, people dying, etc.... and still, can't contact them, I can still remember my dad and uncle walks in and out of the house, worried about them. Until the night came, where some of our neighbors (relatives, not so close) were walking towards our house with someone at their back, laughing and asking "how are you" and stuffs, and maaaann *WE THANKED GOD BIG TIME* seeing them, the whole family, infront of us, and seeing my nephew all grown up and of course my cute little niece, it's our first time seeing her because she was born in Japan. We were so happy to see them, and they were too. But the sad part is, is that they didn't know anything about what was happening in their country at that time, they were so shock and sad hearing the news, specially her husband whom left his parents and siblings there. But thank God again that they were fine and got relocated immediately. They said that there's nothing wrong about the weather and stuffs before they left Japan, it's just a normal perfect day, the airlines were functioning well, letting the passengers go. So maybe this happened after their flew off Japan. So instead of them surprising us (which they did), they got a bigger surprise with what happened. Now they are living in Japan again, but they are not allowed to live in Fuskushima yet I think? Because of the radiation that got all in the place, she and her husband were allowed to visit their old home to check things, but not allowed to take anything. And they still visit us once in a year or two. (Air fare is expensive. lol) I still consider visiting Japan even after this, because Japan is a beautiful country and most of the people were very much disciplined. (and I kinda love anime) :) PS Sorry for my grammar. Hahahahaha. Thank you for reading all the way if you did, just wanted to share this. :) I am not a good story teller tbh, so sorry again. XD PPS. And oh, her husband used to work in the nuclear power plant as an engineer before the earthquake destroyed it. Which made them worried more. But he got a job immediately after returning to Japan. :)

What is sad though is that those houses, cars, buildings etc. May never be safe again just like Chernobly. And the memory of this tragic incident will stay embedded in a town which once was happinees of everyday life.

Actually Josh, Nuclear power isn't as bad as it is publicly viewed. My brother and I have been studying Nuclear physics and so on. Actually, the few melt downs have given nuclear power a bad name. Nuclear power has been advancing a lot and will actually be a helpful energy source in the future. Really not many people have died from Nuclear melt downs. And if you count everyone who was affected(Not just the few deaths) as casualties, It would still be safer than the other option, which is fossil fuels, which has caused many more deaths indirectly. Not to mention that fossil fuels is a natural resource that will dry up eventually. Fukushima was a Gen2 reactor which was based off of the U.S. Navel reactors. They are PWR or boiling water reactors. The reactors we are building now are Gen5 have safety measures built into them so that it is physically impossible to melt down. You can't even force it to melt down. Not only that but Fukushima was hit by a magnitude 9 earthquake and a Tsunami with waves over 15 meters. If it had been a coal plant of equal power output, the environmental effects would have been thousands of pounds of VOCs( Volatile Organic Compound) and literal tons of coal would have been released into the water, In which the ecological damage would have been thousands of time worse. Here is another thing, during normal operation a coal power plant that produces 1/1000 of the power of the nuclear power plant releases way more radiation. And so Nuclear Power is clearly a better option if you actually take the time to learn what it actually is. -CyberWolf
@Nags
@Nags 6 жыл бұрын
Nuclear Power isn't the issue, in both Fukushima and Chernoyl it was human error that caused the meltdown not the Tsunami and Nuclear power itself.
@hydrochloricacid2146
@hydrochloricacid2146 6 жыл бұрын
I agree with you, but there's still something you're missing. Modern gen 5 reactors are considerably safer than the early gen 1 and 2 reactors, which were built during the 60's and 70's. Problem is, investment in nuclear power has stalled since the cold war neared its end, which means most installed reactors at the moment are actually old gen 2 facilities.

oh so it was the workers fault that the tsunami wiped out the diesel generators?
@EmmalynnCynefin
@EmmalynnCynefin 6 жыл бұрын
EvilStewsRealm I am not saying it's the workers' fault.I am just saying a gen 2 reactor against a 23 foot or more Tsunami with a powerful earth quake is going to spell disaster. To put it simply. There is more to it, and I'm not saying there isnt, I'm just putting it simply by saying nuclear power is a better energy source than fossil fuels, which are actually one of the biggest causes of global warmimg. And a super powerful Tsunami and earthquake will bring tragedy anywhere.

It’s honestly so so heartbreaking that these people had to get up and leave everything they knew to survive. It’s so sad.
