What a difference six years makes... There's no way you can ride a bike in there now. Nothing but shattered glass everywhere!

And now it's nothing but rubble and there's going to be an Amazon building on that site. Yeah the place got demolished starting in 2016. Really Google the rest of it to find out.

Even at the time this was shot, you can see badly leaking ceilings, water stained floors, and mildew. But still, the difference between this and footage that was shot just a few years later is shocking! You can still sort of make out what it looked like in its heyday.

This is the best video that shows the mall in it's original condition, nice quickie tour. Had you known what was to come, a slower walk though video would have been golden. Maybe someone else has footage? Thanks for posting this.

In 2009 Rolling Acres wasn't completely abandoned yet. The Sears stayed open until April 3rd 2011 and the JCPenney remained open until December 2013. It is only after those two stores closed that scrappers and vandals really wrecked the place. Around the time Dan Bell visited was when the mall was starting to look like something out of a zombie apocalypse movie. Then in 2016 was the low point for the mall just before it was demolished. As of April 2017 Rolling Acres is almost completely gone. It is basically just a desolate parking lot and weed field now. Nothing left to explore.

I explored this with some friends today and I have to say that it's only gotten more disturbing and freaky since you've recorded it. One wall had some particularly unsettling graffiti that read something like: "You cannot hide. I will hunt you. I will find you. I will kill you."

Thanks for the "one more loop" which makes this such a good video and your squeaky bike just adds to the creepiness of this abandoned mall, which, I was naming all the stores as you rode past them. This was the best mall...sorry to see the extremely dead plants, still upright for some weird reason..This mall had unusual stores, too..."the wild pair" "davy jones locker" and a ton of other ones I can't remember their names now...the fountain was gorgeous!! Great video!!

This video got me interested in malls again, thanks for the upload! Looks like it was once a great place. Yesterday I revisited a mall near me, Valley West Mall in Des Moines, and it really reminded me of Rolling Acres. It's not nearly as big, but the whole layout and feel of the place is the same, and it's still pretty busy and full. There's a glass elevator, several sets of escalators, and the food court is tucked underneath one end of the lower level, just like Rolling Acres! I was thrilled.

It's a shame to see places like this go under. Some of the problems are in management, others too many malls or like stores in the area and some other problems are on-line shopping. There is a mall in Cupertino Ca. called Vallco. This mall was built in the very late 60s or early 70s. It's in an affluent city with 3 major anchor stores and it's walking distance from the new gigantic Apple campus. This mall has been sold at least 3 times and they've had improvements but it's still dying. Many stores are empty, Macys' just closed their store there I think eventually it will be like the mall in this video, although Vallco is a lot smaller. Westfield Shopping Town shopping centers seem to thrive. Valley Fair which is in San Jose/Santa Clara just a few miles from Vallco is a very large and thriving mall. I feel sorry for all the people that had jobs at these malls.

Thank you for posting this video. It's so cool & sad to see places that were always bustling with people, just completely deserted for a long time. There's a big mall where I live called Park City that's I believe was built in the late 60's. I was walking around it the other day trying to picture it deserted like this. There are a few closed stores, but for the most part it's still pretty busy, but you wonder what it'll be in the future.

As I got older I thought this mall had a strange floor design with multiple stairways and ramps leading up to or down different levels of shops. Strange thing is after all of these years I still remember playing on those wheelchair ramps.

I miss this mall. I used to come to Rolling Acres Mall all the time. This was my favorite mall back in my childhood and teenage years. I sucks what happened with this mall. Now Chapel Hill Mall is out of business. So now, Summit Mall is now the only mall open in Akron now and they're still going strong. Carnation Mall in Alliance, Ohio was just torn down, they're building a Meijer in it's place. Shenango Valley Mall in Hermitage, Pennsylvania is now going out of business at the end of May. They're now losing their last anchor store which is JCPenney. It's gonna be torn down later this year. I miss these malls. At least the Summit Mall and the Belden Village Mall are still open as well as the Eastwood Mall in Niles, Ohio. These malls are still going strong to this day.

Sad to see such a complex as this sitting so large and abandoned. In my area, the local Bellevue, NE Southroads Mall suffered such a similar effect, as well as the old Mall of the Bluffs in Council Bluffs, IA. I could see so much potential for such a facility, even if an indoor like condo or emergency shelter/housing facility after an "event".

Awsome Vid. I miss my local mall known as "The York Mall" Jc pennies moved to a newer mall & Wal-Mart moved in in 1990. Within 5 years the rest of the mall was having less & less stores. Now only wal-mart remains. The middle of the mall was a Bon-Ton But Now Burrlington Coat Factory is in it. That is the onlt part that remains from the original Mall. They tour down Montgomery Wards & rebuilt the lower half as a strip mall. Really Really Sucks.

At 1:46, some people said that you could see someone walking up the stairs on the lower level. It appears that way, but that is not really what it is. The stairs are actually coming up toward you at that point, therefore if it were someone, you would see them between the treads of the stairs where there are commonly risers. If anyone who has ever been in that mall relly remembers, those stairs had a single steel stringer that ran up the middle of the treads as oppose to going up the sides.

Good news everyone! I work at Sears next to Rolling Acres Mall and we found out that SIMON (the company that owns Summit Mall) bought the Mall for $1 million dollars in an online auction. We talked to one of the construction workers and they said that its being gutted right now cause SIMON is turning it back into a mall! YAY! The Target Store building is bought and is being a department store (don't know which company), so its gonna reopen! Awesome!

kudos on not wiping out while you were riding around the mall. I went there while attending ksu. sad to see it look like that.

This is what happens when communities start to fall apart, property investors charge too much for rent, and people stop supporting these "empty shoebox" money sucking machines. To tell you the truth, this video depicts the future (and present) of America in general. Thanks to all the jobs shipping overseas that is. We've got a mall just like this in my area called the Machesney Park Mall in Illinois. (Was a small airport before that.) Nice video, thanks for sharing it w/ us! :-)

This is really strange. I've never seen this much property abandoned and left wide open and eerily quiet.

Wow... How sad to read all of this stuff. I used to go here as a kid all the time with my mom and older sister. I remember being little and getting a little container of popcorn at the Kopper Popper before wandering off. My favorite stores when I was little were the World of Science, some video game store, and the pet shop near the food court. We got our dog from there way back in the day.... Man, I'll have to come by here sometime and see how the old girl is holding up (read: falling apart).

This was THE place to hang out when I was a teen. Crime and fear of crime is what shut it down. No one felt safe shopping there. The anchor stores (Sears and Penny's) are still operating because they have their own entrances, and they own their buildings or have long term leases? Don't quite remember which. There is even a bus terminal on the property and it never looks busy when I drive past. Surrounding businesses and strip malls are also fading away a little at a time.
