Weekends with my mom and two brothers were spent here all the time growing up. I got clothes from JCPenny in August 2008 for school, and then Halloween, everyone heard the mall was shut down. It was upsetting to see a piece of childhood waste away. I wish in the future, someone would come along, and bring back the history this mall once brought to Akron...

I spent hundreds of hours in the 80s and early 1990s at Rolling Acres. I don't even want to imagine how much money I spent inside that mall. It started to go downhill after a shooting at the theater one weekend and I never felt safe going back. I can probably name more than 1/2 of the stores that there there between 1985 and 1995. My ex and I bought our wedding rings at the J.B.Robinson at the center court. The last time I was there was in 2005 or so when I went to the JC Penny outlet store.
@broniebros918310 жыл бұрын
I'm really interested in what happened that made this mall abandoned i seen you said something about a shooting but what was the real meaning of it closing down and getting abandoned (also I'm just wonder what a couple of stores that were in the mall if you could name them off?)
@kellihollinger771510 жыл бұрын
Bronie Bros The shooting was at a theatre on the lower court.and the perpetrators were never caught. Gangs of kids started roaming the mall and harassing people and the customers just stopped coming to the mall. There were more than a few muggings in the parking lot and the mall owners never stepped up security. The anchor stores were JCpenny, Macys, Higbees and Sears. There was a BDalton books, Lerner's, MarryGoRound clothes, JoAnn Fabrics, Claires, Fredrick's of Hollywood, The Limited, Wilsons leather, Baskin Robbins, 2 Hallmark stores. The mall was packed during the weekends in the 1980s but by 1998 it was a dump and nobody wanted to be there. The last stores to close were JCPenny and Sears.

from what i learned years ago, The mall started out very well.. But sometime in the 90's/early 2000's the surrounding neighborhood turned to shit.. the movie theater turned into a fight zone every night and at one point was so bad it spilled out into the food court and a security guard got stabbed. Pretty sure someone got shot too to stop this problem they removed the ability for the theater to go into the mall, but the bad press scared alot of people away, then the owners started raising the rent. The anchor stores started closing and moving. All of that + the economic down turn spelled the end for this once great mall. I walked through this mall loads of times and the JC penny outlet store was pretty awesome.

I live 10 maybe 15 minutes away from this mall and from what I understand, when it was built the area had a lot of traffic going through and a lot of cutomers at the mall of course but as time went on the business moved elsewhere so the stores had to close down and for years there was still one store left there but they recently closed down.

I spent tons of time there as a kid with my family in the early 90s late 80s. It was a very thriving mall with everything. That is a really bad area now. As in many cities making a comeback, the downtowns and more urban areas are being rebuilt, people are moving back into the heart of the cities, and certain 'suburban' patches are being forgotten and becoming a wasteland.
