Most likely blew a belt and the kick start mechanism is dirty and jammed. The noise is the pawl hitting the nut.

It was actually a thick washer behind that gear I took out there is usually a very thin one there . Hey I appreciate you commenting and watching thank you ‼️

Those flairings look really brittle. Is there any way to keep them from breaking.

They are what you can do is fiberglass the inside with fiberglass resin and t-shirt material. That'll give him a little extra life. Thank you for commenting and watching ‼️
