Hi guys, I bought a boat years ago with the same engine which was knackered after the headers failed and sucked in sea water. I bought a new GM Vortex crate engine from the US for half the price of the Mercruiser one. You will need an engine alignment tool to adjust the engine mounts to fit the out drive. Fit new bellows to the outdrive (looks like they were in the box). Another tip I learned the hard way, replace the shift shelf bush and seal at the top of the leg. Just a few quid but mine failed and sucked it sea water killing the drive and needing a tow back to the mooring! Loving the channel, Norm.

What a gift! I heard the heartbeat of America(insert bow tie here) in The UK. Some ATF briefly in the crankcase run to operating temp will seek out the hot/binding spots and lubricate that stuck valve and any other parts with water damage or sticky from sitting thanks for sharing Gentlemen

Good job lads. Make sure that the raw water bungs are drained on the heat exchanger with this colder weather coming. Another good idea is to put a stat and red heat lamp (like used over animals etc) into the engine hatch to further reduce risk of frost damage. 1500 was a bargain for the trailer, a bargain for the Hull, a bargain for the leg, a bargain for the engine but an outright steal for the lot!!!! 💪💪 he who dares, wins
@neilread6888 Жыл бұрын
She runs 👍 great video. You might need to replace that fire extinguisher in the engine bay, any stored pressure over 10 years old will need changing, and looking at the size of that one it could be an old halon unit, get a 1.5kg clean agent extinguisher better than CO2 for a boat engine bay, and get a small dry powder in the cabin so you will be Boat Safty Scheme compliant.

ENGINE BLOWER WARNING!! Before you ever start a petrol inboard engine, you need to turn on the blower. The purpose of the blower is to remove any flammable gas. Petrol fumes, lpg fumes and even WD 40 propellants from the engine compartment. There should be an air blower in the compartment and a switch on the dash. There's is a good chance you are going to blow your back doors off 😮 without it. I'm loving the video guy as always.

@markmurphy3578 Жыл бұрын
I’m enjoying seeing this slowly progress in between the daily earners. And it’s nice when the issues are easy to see. It just goes to show that working methodically is the only way to go. You could almost do with a blooming great trough of water to see how well it runs. Although it might be a bit too high on the trailer. Does Chris need to dig a ‘test pond’ somewhere for the side project boats now?

Those old 4.3 vortex V6 motors are easy to work on and to find parts for (in the sates anyway) so you should be able to get it purring fellas, easy to swap out for a 5.7 liter also if you want more power!!!! the 4.3 is good enough for a lazy day out and they are pretty much bulletproof to be honest once you get em running right
