Fantastic video anything to do with the late lemented wood head route fascinates me obviously I have books on it and dvds and seen the sole surviving EM 1 loco 26020 at the Nrm York which I think is now at Nrm Shildon I was only 10 year old when the wood head route closed on July 31 1981 😮

I used to travel frequently on the Football specials to Hillsborough from Worksop as many other football specials from various locations. Where was the coaching stock for those specials stored and presumably the locos went to Darnall for servicing ?

The Wadsley Bridge signal box sign disappeared from the funeral directors when the co-op took over!

Great pictures and memories. Unfortunately you stated that the Station served the suburb of Wadsley. This is not correct. Wadsley is a different suburb of sheffield it is across the river and up the hill about 1 mile west as the crow flies from Wadsley Bridge.

Wadsley is local to me. It isn't too far away from the bridge but I guess you are right.

Like everything else it had a purpose, then when suits is simply discarded to memory and history. The whole route was a worthwhile link, just thrown away to suit the accountant's books. Sad to say, had it's final day. 😕

Sad sad sad, last train was a intercity 47 for Norwich fans v Sunderland in fa cup after that thanks to Liverpool scum no more semi finals only Wembley now no more trains no more fun. Has been talk of super tram to forge Valley retail park Stocksbridge via Victoria but more chance of sheff united being in Europe than that happening
