I think that the parking brake must be bad on both of the brake chambers if it was free rolling. You might want to replace those for safety reasons.

That one truck reminds me of the 1968 F600 I learned to drive in! My uncle owned it. It was kind of the same deal. It was a surplus yard truck from a local factory that had a 14' dump bed on it that he got cheap at auction. He traded a neighbor out of a school bus chassis so he could stretch the frame and then his brother-in-law got him some diamond plate from an old bridge the county took down. He built a 28' flat bed for it . It was a hay hauling machine. Gas engine, 5 speed main, 3 speed auxiliary and a 2 speed rear axle. We would set the hand throttle to a walking pace and just let it crawl through the fields by itself while we loaded square bales on the back. Once in a while someone would jump on the running board and correct it's aim. Good memories!

Josh, this has to go down as one of your best videos so far. Cousin G brings back so many memories of my childhood (turned 67 yesterday) When I was a kid I would go to "Morales Hill" where Bill Morales lived and he was just like Cousin G he knew something about everything and had junk cars and trucks all over the "Hill". I think you need to hang around him more and he will teach you some stuff...... Keep up the Great Videos!

I love junk yards! A friend in VA has one his Dad started in the 1950s. At one time, he had over 12,500 cars/trucks/equipment in there. I walked many hours with him making a catalog of what was there. The total junks were hauled out and sold. He said when he retired, he was going to sell it all. He actually made fences in the back, where thieves came in and stole thousands, with school buses...I expect over 100 of them. One of my old cars was there...a 1964 Ford Galaxie...a 4 door.

Pure country. Every town needs a man like this. Always in a good mood. A real hard working man. You wonder.. how in the world can a man be in such a good mood, and have that much work all around him? But, when it’s Saturday at 7pm and you need a thing-a-muh-jig for the watchyamuhcallit ....Mr G is there, and happy to sell it to you. I’d love to see more of him. Where else you gonna learn about the wire going to the solenoid, so it’ll start. Those rims... I’m with you Josh. When I first saw them I thought about those cages they use to air them up in. Anyway, very good video. Cousin G is a good friend to know. I’ll bet if you can’t find it.... he has it.

Word of caution when working with the air brakes cylinders; there should be a VERY strong spring inside to apply the brakes and the air releases the brakes. There is a bolt that goes through the center of the cylinder-DO NOT REMOVE THAT BOLT until you adequately keep that spring in place. The spring inside those brake cylinders released unintentionally will kill you or at least do serious damage.

Since it's been sitting so long there a lot of things I would fix and repair almost immediately. If you are just going to just use it on the farm you can get by with fewer repairs. If you're going to make it road worthy then there a whole lot of things you need to repair and fix. The 3208 Cat engine is a strong little engine for that size dump truck. You could make it into a great truck but that would cost a good bit. I probably have some parts and pieces that I could help you with. You may be surprised as to the cost of moving a truck of that size. I noticed he had a Mack truck with a low boy. That would be a perfect vehicle to move it with if he's tagged to go to NC. Love people that have been able to acquire all those things like that. My wife fusses at my collection of trucks and things all the time. But when we save thousands of dollars by salvaging a part from one the older trucks, she will usually bite her tongue then. LOL If you need any advice or help in the trucking side let me know. I'm not too far away from you, since you're just north of Greensboro. If you swapped a mountain bike for the truck then I say you did pretty good. Take care.
