It’s not free anymore. When we were growing up Skógarfoss, Seljalandsfoss and other gems around the island were untouched and we traveled out and about on weekends and summer. No muddy paths or litter. Now there are manmade constructions, steps, stairs and fences to keep tourists safe, because many do not tread carefully in sensitive and extreme nature and some with no respect to nature. It’s not an amusement park and can be dangerous if you are not brought up in that environment, just like we would be in other places on earth that we are not used to. These places belong to farmers/private landowner and/or Icelandic nation.

+kendra lynn iceland is expensive, about 100-140$usd a night for a room and the car and gas rentals are crazy too, but it's definitely worth seeing so I would try to save up if you can
