Abandoned Vermont Farm House Exploration- w/a "Witch's Window"

I pass this old house all the time while hosting "Tiny House Summer Camp"- a hands-on tiny house building and living workshop on our ten acres in northern Vermont (Sept 13-15th in 2024- sign ups below). In anycase, as this old farmhouse has racked and settled so much, the entire front door has fallen from its frame leaving the whole house wide open- so I decided to take a peek. This one is pretty darn dangerous as you'll see and for that reason there are parts of it I don't explore. But for the salvagers and repurposing folks out there, I feel its always fun to look through these abandoned houses to see the POTENTIAL materials one could save and harvest- and give new life to in a tiny house of cabin build. This house looks like it is sitting in the "right of way" of either the county or state depending on that road. Check with the local government offices. You might be able to legally salvage some of the house. Good luck on all the projects.

Welcome to Vermont. We have many wonderful homes with a “ witches window” it’s to keep the children safe from the witches, if they try to fly in the window they get knocked off their brooms 😂😂😂

It is neat to see buildings on the East Coast are very similar to ones here local in NW Washington. I was going to ask you Deek when were you doing in playing around in Skagit County... then you said you were in Vermont.

I live in a 200 year old abandoned farm house in vt, I feel personally attacked! Lol. I think that sunken foundation you filmed had fallen into the basement. They did that fieldstone foundation thing here a lot, cause they had them just lying around, but you have to be a real Mason to get a wall of round rocks to stay together, especially with the redunculous frost heave we have here. I've seen a 4' tall standing wave shaped pot hole form over night here, wild stuff.

It'd also be an interesting site to metal detect- though you'd find a ton of worthless junk as well. But still.....

I see a vent in the ceiling too, that allows the heat to go upstairs, wealthier homes would have a metal floor grate instead

Good catch! Yes, you do see that in many old-old New England homes. The home I grew up in had that as well (though it wasn't all that old)

This one might be quite the haz-mat mess though- probably nothing but lead paint, etc....and its also listing/collapsing slowly.... I wish I could have seen the inside of the barn/garage attachment though!

It can’t be abandoned very long ago, it still has power lines connected to it. I love Deek just ignores the “private property no trespassing” sign. Lol
