I was thinking there’s got to be a way to find any remaining descendants who would love to know this exists! With the family disappearing, the time frame, and where this is located, makes you wonder if they may have left to save their lives. So much of it is pre WWII. At the very least, most of the contents could be museum pieces!

That was one of the most amazing homes I’ve seen yet. You could just hear the kids running through it while the women were busy doing things and men were on meetings. Then their special occasions the place all lit up and listening to music !! Loved that one so much Thank you for sharing :)

I’ve thought about such things as I watch these videos, too! Not just the china, but the books, or small but unique items like the scale in the dining room. For other locations I believe they get permission from someone to enter, or perhaps check with local authorities, and I’m sure if an owner or law enforcement suspected they were absconding with anything, they’d face lawsuits and infamy that could make future endeavors more difficult to arrange. If it was me, and heck, maybe one day it WILL be me, depending on who I was negotiating with to gain access, I might ask if I could pick out one small piece to take with me, to remember it by, subject to their approval, that I’d get in writing. And possibly I’d pay for it. Not looking to sell on ebay or anywhere else.

The beautiful cabinet in the dining room is made of inlaid wood, it is different pieces of different colors in order to make the design. It takes a long time and is very painstakingly difficult to do. I just love it. Thank you for all your hard work.

There would be lots more dust and spiders webs if this wasn’t being checked on I think. I.ve seen houses abandoned for far less time covered in dust/damp/spiders webs etc.

So true. Also I learned in a private care position I did that during WW2...Couples who were married but from different cultural backgrounds often had to abandon their home's to escape persecution. Very sad. My client was a child in Germany then. Many children were hidden in underground bunkers to be protected from the Natzi's. Her mother was from a wealthy Jewish family and her father was German. Her mother had to escape to Russia. Her father and brothers did their best to keep running their beautiful farm but life was very difficult for them to say the least. Her mother's family would not help them financially nor would they take my client into their home during the war. They too had a very rich house. History is sad...

The silver dust pan you found in the dining room had a brush that went with it and it was used for taking crumbs off the table cloths. It wasn't used on the floors.

The brass hanging bells in the end of the video are the bells to call the staff from various rooms. Each bell has its unique tone which tells the staff where they are needed.

The reasons many chateau beds are recessed is to keep the draft off the sleeping occupant, much like beds covered in canopy's with drapes

Michael Martineau sometimes the recessed beds even had cabinet doors to stay warn-good idea although my claustrophobia would not be ok with that.

@@jennyknepper The Inglenooks with doors or curtains would help keep you warm (away from the drafts) the same as bed curtains did on canopy beds. (Traps in some body heat too, and gives the people who share commin spaces, some privacy. Everything was very practical back then.

It’s like a history museum, it’s as though the owners lived in the lifestyle of a different era. I wonder if they passed away due to old age, and the family became overwhelmed with the responsibility of it. Sad that so many family heirlooms are left to decay 💙

That's what I was thinking! It's a museum! Packed so full of priceless antiques. Most likely the owner passed and the family couldn't afford the inheritance taxes that European countries use to keep families from passing down wealth. This explore was just breathtaking.

This was a stunning explore. I believe I loved everything in it. One thing I've come to admire from watching French Explorations is their unique interior design. It is so elegant and classy. I love the matching fabrics, the textures, the symetry in the way they decorate. I adore the floral patterns and vibrant colors, especially when they use pink. Marble fireplaces, the paintings. The carpets on the walls were gorgeous. And I love the displays of their religious beliefs throughout their home. No expense spared, just beauty everywhere. And the books!! Absolutely AMAZING place! I love the intro, you haven't skipped leg day! Sooo many wardrobes, cabinets, bookshelves, its unbelievable. The rooms go on and on forever. The tables in each room were called card tables or games tables. I have one that was my great grandparents. Some of the bedrooms had sinks with running water but just that one toilet?! Each room had the bedside table to store the bed pans to pee in at night. I love your energy and enthusiasm about the radiators and especially the wood burning stoves-I can't imagine the amount of wood it would take in the winter time. I'm glad you didn't go to the left on the third floor, I think the tile they laid was too much for the weight of the floor, is maybe why it was failing.... Its amazing to me after a few HUNDRED years the only crack I saw was in the bathroom. So many stories this place could tell. Thank you!

When you were showing the silver dustpan and you mentioned how they don’t make stuff like that anymore well that’s why I look into antique shops and I find a lot of things like that that I still use at home I don’t have a silver one but I do have a cool metal one from the 40s and it’s yellow!

These refined dust pans and brush were more for a dining table after high tea where crumbs were swept off the table to avoid wasging the whole table or washing the table cloth. Items of convenience were constantly being introduced to make life easier. However those times were surrounded by fine things of beauty. Now we have Ikea.

Wonderful job, once more. It is quite something to see the tale of how the castle's once-upon-a-time centerpiece of having exquisite fireplaces with all their finest marble, mirror, artwork and gilding eventually became antiquated. These were then replaced with metal stoves, the incredibly disjunctive tall white heaters (with their big black pipes clashing against the beauty of the wall paper) and finally, the steam/eletric radiant heaters. Also, seeing the washing machines from prior centuries all in one room is like seeing a messy version of a Smithsonian exhibit. Wow. These all indicate how this castle was very much in use as it went through the centuries -- it went through upgrades from candles/chandeliers to electric. The impact of these upgrades changed the integrity of the overall aesthetic of the interior designs. The rooms began to look very hodge-podge, mishmash. The elegance which once was faded or completely became mostly obliterated. I really enjoy seeing the joy in which you explore and guide your viewers through the property. The feeling I get when I watch all the things which were left behind and the way in which they were left behind, feels somewhat depressing. It seems like the residents did not make a peaceful transition in their inner world, their inner selves, and it was reflected in the way which they were living. On the upside, when there is so much personal stuff left behind and abandoned (including numerous very valuable items) it makes me see how the very rich and the very poor are perhaps not much different from each other when seen fr this light. I am reminded that as these grand castles with its grand contents fall into decay, they are actually returning to where they came from: nature. The Tibetan Buddhist tradition of creating very intricate and exquisite large sand mandalas come to mind. However painstaking the number of hours and effort they devote to the mindful and prayerful creation of something so breathtakingly beautiful, as soon as it is complete they intentionally and mindfully destroy them and return them back to nature. Thank you so much for this video. It is a potent and profound piece for me on the beauty and truth of impermanence in everything.

Frame 17:36 Beautiful chair with the yellow and blue design. Yes this was one Magnificent home, loved everything. So many valuables left behind, I don't think vandals, but family members looking for particular documents, or items of importance to take to another country. I hope the Gerardi family are well. Maybe a Winery Business dispute/disagreement somewhere, made them leave this location. Could be Germany, Switzerland or Brazil. Remember folks, No one leaves valuables, unless something more valuable is at stake! These valuables left behind is nothing to them. They should just auction off their furnishings. This place..is so historically comfortable, again, more than happy to be part of the cleaning crew.💕💕💕 All I need are the cutains, 2 beautiful yellow blue chair, Mirror etc. And spend a whole week there as a guest...too much to ask for? 🤗💕

Actually it isn’t either a dust pan or a crumb cleaner. It is used for the fireplace which was right next to it. It is used to clean the ashes from the fireplace . When you used to use a fireplace most the day for heat you had to clean them up on a regular basis.

I own a chateau myself. They become very expensive to run and to upkeep. I looks like to me that there buisness went under and they went bankrupt. When this happens the bank or the state own it. And sometimes the state just forget about it.

@@bextar6365 my Chateau was pretty much the same. It still does cost a lot to keep it going. But i wouldn't abandon it. My brother before me inherited it and he spent everything he had unfortunately he died and it was willed to me. Has history and memories.

I love decorating.A few years back,I started with 1 room to fully re-do to Victorian status.I made it a sitting room. It was beautiful when finished. The house was situated in an Estate when they were building homes in the 1700's. Well,I grew up in that same estate but several years later I thought to sell and move.I bought another home that I want to re-decorate in 1850 style. yet much has to be done.Iam buying another home to live in. I adore photos of older homes,as well as the different times they were from.I wish I knew you as we could PROBOBLY chat for hours about chalets,mansions and many years gone by. The one refrigator he spoke of looks like an "Ice Box" We had one in one kitchen. Ok love using them but surely not in every day use.It was lovely sharing my thoughts.Stay happy and safe these

Explomo did this place and shortly after their visit, the place was emptied of everything. I guess owners found out people were putting it online XD I feel like due to some laws it has been in probate, but extended family have been in and out, listing things on ebay (explomo bid found things sorted, like China sets for ebay) so probate or whatever most likely came through and allowed current owner/s to come in finally and remove things. We will never know for sure the story of what happened, and we it sat empty for so many years

You can't remove items if the property is in probate because it is considered part of the value of the property. Now if the bank owns they may or may not let you remove things.

What a beautiful home, I can never understand why families just disappear from these homes and never return. They say every room tells a story and I think this is true, looking at a few of the really old items gets you thinking, then amongst the items a few modern things, such as an electric toothbrush? Surely an old place such as this doesn’t have electricity? I know it could be put in, but it wouldn’t be in keeping with this wonderful place. You have chandelier, no gas lamps.. seems to be part modern and old mixed also clothing, which was quite modern.. plimsoles in the wardrobe , fleece on the back of a chair. There was electricity for the old refrigerator in the laundry. The upkeep on a place like this plus the taxes might have been what caused the family not to come back to it. Particularly if the old people died and it was considered an unsaleable white elephant by the younger folk. There is a series of KZbin videos done by anEnglish couple who bought an abandoned French Chateau (very castle like) to live in, refurbish, and make into a wedding venue and get away spot with great food for both English and French customers. They bought it in fairly good shape for less than an apartment in London would have cost. Escape to the Chateau is the title.

I can understand erhaps that people leave or abandon the house itself due to the cost of upkeep but the things inside it? Why not sell those or take some to another house? Maybe that’s why there’s not ladies or children’s clothes as they have done just that. Shame to leave the beds, furniture, dishes etc though.

@@clare3820 Maybe they are so wealthy they have better things where they are at now. The things left maybe don't mean much to them, even though for people like us they seem very precious. Or perhaps they fell on hard times and had to be practical, only taking things with them that they needed or really wanted.

Wonder if any of these families who just disappeared without a trace had pets at one time. I've watched hundreds of these abandoned mansions and just wonder if family members came to gather the cat, dog, rabbit, bird, etc. Somebody has to know something about these abandoned houses.

Surely the facts/stories/explanations would have been handed down to family members. One would think. Many people had their homes invaded and taken over by soldiers - and so on. I've heard so many stories of that nature from seniors in my job who were children during the war in Europe. Children who witnessed horrifying things. Still traumatized 💔

Thank you for showing & sharing this remarkable chateau in France. It’s amazing how people just up & leave a living place. Maybe they all died off one by one & just lived in certain parts of the property. It all goes back to the 1600 so might have been in the family for centuries. The last living ones might have just left because it got too much for them all the responsibilities plus overwhelming possessions all around them. There are indeed many valuables around & probably after a good clean up it would be worth a large amount of money. The old stoves are remarkable, plus bathrooms with their toilets. ( or throne rooms). The furniture & beds are old design. Because it’s hot in France it’s remarkably well kept especially the wall paper. The books must be a real treasure trove to go through. You can see by the kitchen & utensils, pots & pans on the walls that people have lived here for many many years. There are old paintings on the walls of people dressed for hundreds of years ago. Plus the taxidermy stuffed animals which were in fashion a hundred years ago. Maybe the up keep of the place became too much to afford. Somebody must know. It must have had fantastic gardens as well. Maybe a few vintage cars in the grounds. Probably has cellars & garages as well. Really enjoyed the viewing of this historical chateau.

What you call Accountancy Desk, we call Secretaries in America. They are awesome. My husband has his grandmothers Secretary desk. It is MY pride and joy!!! I take very good care of it because it's so old. We think it belonged to her parents. I take pride in antiques. I LOVE antiques. I have 2 kitchen tables with chairs from the 1950's-1960's. I also have an antique teapot WITH a WOODEN BOTTOM WITH A MUSIC BOX!!!!! It was my grandmothers on my dad's side. I take care of my things and the things that are vintage. The waffle irons I saw him identify are actually waffle or wafer irons meant to be used with a fireplace, which is the reason for the long metal handles. Bed warming pans would hold almost spect coals or hot ashes and would have been a pan with a pierced lid to slip between the sheets to take the chill off! I do the same with my electric blanket now because I love to sleep in a cool room but prefer to slip into a warm bed.

The most interesting discovery was the very old letters in the large closet. All those documents should be rescued and taken to experts. Those "canisters" hanging above the sink (opposite the mattress beaters) are in fact bed warmers! How wonderfully amazing. I would dearly love to see this chateau restored to it's original glory. To witness such decay and abandonment, is too upsetting.

I am in total awe. If I had been with you, I would’ve had an anxiety attack from the excitement of it all. My daughter and I went in an antique store once, it was much bigger than it looked from the outside and it was packed full! I literally had an attack, the excitement and not knowing where to start was all too much for me 😂 LOVE places like this. I don’t understand how they are just left to rot away when someone in need could use it. Makes me excited but sad at that same time. Awesome find guys. Stay safe and healthy 🥰

Hi Maria~ I agree with you-- in the States, the house would have been vandalized, pipes ripped out, and anything of value, gone! They don't protect those places. The people who live in those countries just leave them alone. If that place was protected, that nice kid would have been given a citation for criminal trespass.

The dust pan and the brush next to it was called a Silent Butler, it was for brushing crumbs off the table.. As a Antiques and Vintage dealer my heart is just fluttering with all of the beautiful things I recognize for what they are, My heart skipped a beat when that old ice box turned on.. lol .. such a shame to be just left alone to a eventual decaying death.. I think the little room off the bedroom would have been the birthing room.. the midwife would have stayed in there next to the mistress's room.

A great time-capsule. What a find!!! These Delftware tiles and china remind me of my childhood. My grandmother had tiles like this in her kitchen. And my aunt had a Delftware service. That was very modern in the 60s and 70s. I still think it's beautiful. 1677 that's a number. When walls could speak what a bunch of interesting stories would they told us.
