how is this channel so undiscovered and unknown.. IMO best hiking/outdoors/exploring channel out there. Videos are all just so well thought out, educational, beautifully shot and every video takes me somewhere unique that I would have never known existed. The fact that this channel is so unknown kind of adds to the appeal though.. Luke takes us on adventures to hidden gems throughout Canada, while his channel itself is a hidden gem. Thank you for making these videos and please don't ever stop.

I used to fly up there. If there was anything usable, that you could use or trade, it would be salvaged. Military? They already abandoned it. It was picked apart by civilians. And there were plenty of civilian DC3 and variants running around Alaska and N. Canada.

The DC3/C47 is still one of the most beautiful planes ever created, also they seem to have good statistics considering survivability of crashes. You often hear of DC3s gliding down smoothly and slowly coming to a halt largely intact, which is good for passengers.

Actually the plane was OD green when it went down. The paint does not last long up here and in the dry cold the aluminum oxidizes very slowly. This plane was one of three C-47s to crash in connection to the search for 42-72469, a C-54D (DC-4) with 44 aboard that vanished on 1/26/1950 and has never been found. Fortunately no one was killed in these three crashes. This plane is a snowmobile tour site and the one that crashed near Snag gets regular visits from snowmobilers working at the Beaver Creek Customs post. At my YT channel, Where is AF 2469? there is some info on the loss of that plane while visiting the places where witnesses saw something or heard a plane go by that day.

My father was in the USAF and spent some time in Labrador in the late 50's or early 60's. While there he met a RCMP officer who carried a Thompson sub-machine gun in his vehicle. This RCMP officer told my father that he stumbled upon a similar plane crash in the Canadian bush and he found this gun in the wreckage and carried it as a secondary duty weapon thereafter. This same RCMP officer let my father fire through a full magazine from this gun to allow him to feel the full effect of firing this weapon.

The story of this and the C-54 for which they were searching is described in Gregory P. Liefer’s Aviation Mysteries of the North, chapter 11, "Without a Trace." It’s the aircraft shown on the cover of the book. This C-47 crashed northwest of Whitehorse, and another C-47 crashed on another mountain southeast of Whitehorse before that during the same search. It has six crew members which were rescued the next day. His book Broken Wings is also very good.

Thanks for the journey and story of this old plane. Your photography talents are obvious, great compositions, light. The storytelling was compelling, complementing the imagery perfectly. I certainly felt an awesome sense of space, the remoteness, the emptiness, the raw beauty and melancholic magic of this place. The only way I can figure that plane remained nearly intact was that there must have been a fairly deep layer of snow cushioning it, and one very skillful pilot to bring it down uphill to reduce the length of the "landing" and to bank the wings just enough at the last minute to match the slope of the mountainside. Probably woudn't happen again like that in a million years, so that was one lucky crew. Btw, love your dog!! I'm a first time viewer of your content, but this won't be the last time. @michaelkeller52704 жыл бұрын
Video was WAY too short! :) Nice research/planning. Views were just awesome: the caribou, the puppers, the mountains/valleys and especially the pullback of the plane at the end. This is all very intriguing. I noticed that the cockpit was rather "empty". Some of those tubes/pipes look clean cut - so, I'm assuming the Air Force must have taken the "important and/or sensitive" equipment out of the plane. Also, glad you knew when to rest up, was a little concerned when you said you were going solo! will have to go check your catalog - nice work!
