Abandoned & Forgotten Places
Documenting abandoned mines like never before!
Let's take abandoned mine exploring to the next level!
With your support you can help make this the best abandoned mine exploring channel on KZbin!
Shot entirely in 4K! ...so, turn up those video settings!
On this channel we go deep... REALLY DEEP into abandoned mines and tunnels all throughout the western United States. We researched some of the harder to find mines and hiked or 4x4 back into them to explore and reveal their hidden secrets. Many of these remote locations are filled with cool artifacts, antiques and unique geology that will have you guessing as to why the old prospectors worked so hard to find gold, silver, and other minerals.
A&FP moves just a bit slower as compared to other mine exploring channels. Gly discusses why the miners chose these sites and he points out the geology and minerals that got them excited. Veins of quartz filled with gold and silver made many men lose sleep in the 1800’s and early 1900’s and modern prospecting still does to this very day.
DANGERS? Oh yes, there’s allot of dangers associated with old mines. Un-exploded dynamite, blasting caps, bad air, bats, spiders, and snakes all find their home in abandoned mine shafts and tunnels. Oh, and let’s not forget rotting timbers, flooded passages and collapsing rock!
Gly takes abandoned mine exploring seriously with all the proper safety equipment, training, and experience necessary to do this activity as safe as possible but that doesn’t mean we can’t have a bit of fun along the way. “Gly”, your host and his band of crazy characters “Old Bob” (Gly’s Jeep), “Quackers” (Gly’s duck) and “Bobbie” (Gly’s hula girl) are sure to brighten your day with their comments and silly antics. Heck, they may even give you a chuckle or two.
Just like Saturday morning cartoons before the internet was invented, Abandoned and Forgotten Places uploads each Saturday at 7:00AM PST. (that’s 10:00AM for you eastern folks) so don’t forget to click that subscribe button and bell icon to receive notifications of new episodes!
Please LIKE, SHARE, SUBSCRIBE and COMMENT! All these things help grow our channel and your financial support helps us find new locations and helps put fuel into “Old Bobs” tank. Old Bob, thanks you!
Ok, now for the ugly stuff...
WARNING
Abandoned mines and ruined structures have many hazards and can severely injure or even kill you. Do not attempt to copy or re-enact situations or scenarios seen in this video. Stay Out and Stay Alive: • Gly Says... STAY OUT S...
NOTICE This video and all commentary therein including comments by the viewer is for entertainment purposes only and not intended to be instructional.
Whew! You made it this far? Good for you!
Now enjoy the channel!

32:55 ?A 3 cylinder water pump? Note outlet pipe, drum for a flat belt drive. Gearing is a step-down type (trades belt speed for power). They would not put an air compressor down a hole, but they would put a water pump as they don't lift very well, but they push stronger. They had water problems back then also.

That looks like a water pump. You see larger versions of that design are are still in use in shallow oil fields in Texas. These pumps are over 100 years old.

Before you had concluded your pitch, I hit the join button. Been watching this channel for a very long time. Had tossed some money at Old Bob when he needed some love. Now a few words on some things I'd like to see. I'm heavy into the mechanics of the mines. Of course, any markings on that pump to identify it would be nice. I love machinery. That was some heavy rail to be carted all the way up there. If you could measure the height of the rail, it would help identify it. Rail is most often sized as its weight per yard. The height of the rail or the width across the bottom allows one to refer to tables to get the weight. Also, rolling marks on the web can identify mill and year. As I commented a few episodes ago, saw marks on the lumber/timbers can help identify its origin. Circle saw cut lumber, of course, has circular saw marks on it. Vertical lines indicate a bandmill or sashgang saw. Casting marks on malleable iron washers used to hold it all together are great info also. You do a great job with newspapers and Prince Albert cans. Wood and iron tell me a lot and any attention to these things are vastly appreciated. Thanks, dave

Awsome…2 seperate video creators on the same channel. Laura is doing an amazing job and you make a great team. We look forward to every new video even more now. That mine must have gone a lot deeper to at one time. If you look carefully when Laura videoed the back of the pump there is a pipe disappearing into the rock waste below. It would have been interesting to see where they had the engine mounted in the day and the belt runs they used to get to the pump.

Yes, we figured the pump (we thought it was a winch) may have drained the winze or went all the way down to the lower drift which we could not access because it was flooded.

I've watched 👀 this episode twice already. Once in natural TV image mode and once in dynamic image mode. It appears totally different in those different image versions. In natural mode, it looks great and I was able to fine tune that version slightly to seem colourful and with great natural light falling onto the scenes. In dynamic mode, I had to do a big change to that image cause it was set too dark and too intense. After 20 minutes of fine tuning your images, the colours really became rich and vibrant. The natural light seemed as if I was actually there. It was so real, I've gone silent. So it was 2 great viewing experiences for me. Thanks you 2!! The 4K really helped in making it seems like I was really there. Your new show is going great and my TV adjusting skills have reached a skill level where I can get the most out of watching your show. It's well worth paying for these days! My Panasonic TV 📺 is capable of reproducing your show very accurately. If people don't see why they should pay something towards the show it's probably because they don't have a great TV or they've never thought to adjust it or try out all its features. Great Job!!

Gly & Laura I think the membership thing is a great idea. But, with KZbin taking 30% I would still look into Patreon. I don't know much about it so I don't know if it cost you a monthly membership or not. But from what I hear you get all if not more than from KZbin. Personally I would rather give you two more and KZbin less. Just saying. Also I think it would be worth mentioning clicking or smashing the like button. As I am typing this 11:46 pdt this video had 3622 views but only 842 likes, barely 1/4. I think that might help the KZbin algorithm.

Gly, investigate the properties of arsenopyrite so that you will readily recognize it in the field, give it respect. It oxidizes into Fe and As and S. Lots of staining and it stinks to hell of S there. It is often found when gold is present and is usually in a refractory ore. Could you please pay more attention to the geology you encounter identifying the rocks, etc much like a geologist would. Me, myself and I are expecting more than just adventure in nature, understanding of earth processes is much more exciting, leaves you standing with your mouth hanging open.

Glorious Aerial footage, just love it. Great Vista. This mine is full of water. This other adit work of old. the small adits lead to nowhere, caution was taken.

I hope the memberships pan out for the channel. I would join if I had the extra income but things are little too tight right now. Hopefully when things get more stable I can contribute. Loving the two view points before entering the mine, Laura is getting more comfortable recording. Be safe, take care till the next one 😊

looks like a water pump or an air motor, to me, not an engine or winch
