I recall this song in the high summer of '79, when often it was played over the radio. And in English seaside resorts, amidst their tackiness, the buckets and spades, ice creams, families bumping into each other on the sand, teenagers lumping a football around, the screams and shouts, the amusement arcades and fairground rides on the pier, amidst all that, I recall this song of Abba's breaking over the promenade and the beach, in a low-key way, but audible, and I recall feeling that everything was cool, the beat of this track somehow indicating the temporal nature of time and the warm weather front, never to really last. Abba's music breaking out like that, in such a place, at such a time, added a dash of glamour, and a dash of Scandinavian cool such as it was to the good day out at the seaside. Alas! The Seventies were soon to end.

I’m not gonna lie, I discovered this song through TikTok/IG-reels a couple of months ago, and it has lead me down the deepest ABBA rabbit hole ever! I’ve known ABBA pretty much my whole life (I’m 18), but soon realized I only knew their hit songs (Dancing Queen; Fernando; Mamma Mia; Waterloo; Knowing Me, Knowing You; I Do, I Do -), and diving through their whole discography these past couple of months have been truly amazing! Basically all I listen to now tbh 😌

I'm a big ABBA fan and remember them as I was born in 1972. Never heard this song before and it's become one of my favourite's and shows how the band was evolving musically with more complex songs and musical arrangements. The song title was borrowed by Bryan Ferry and Roxy Music a few years later in 78/79 with their own Angel Eyes song! ABBA's is a more catchy tune though.
