​@@jasobres I think it means that they were supposed to sing to a prerecorded vocal-less track, but they only had the track with the vocals. But apparently Abba fairly rarely sang au natural, their performances on TV were almost always lipsyncs. I guess the classy thing would have been not to call attention to it, but Lorne hates lipsyncing. Plus, I think Disco was not in line with the kind of cool show he wanted SNL to be, which may be why he also had Loudon Wainwright III on the episode as an extra musical guest.

I love ABBA and I love this! Finally some satirical recognition the world’s biggest pop group from the world’s biggest comedy show (from around the same time), in which they performed btw on the very first season (the only ones for 30 years who were allowed to do it playback, not that I know if that’s so honorable…)! And great that it was done by so many SNL legends! One comment though; I don’t think swedish people would ever sing about Santa coming down the chimney, that’s not how our Santa (”Jultomten”) does it. But then again they were commercially aware, so who knows. Btw, only one of their songs is about a 17-year old, just like the Beatles (I saw her standing there), and Elton John even has two (All the girls love Alice, Between 17 and 20). More of this!
