ABBA is musical serotonin. Two angelic voices blended in harmony with incredible tunes. Better yet, they wrote and produced every note of their own music. An extreme rarity considering Burt Bacharach was writing nearly every pop tune back then.

Benny, playing piano, is the main melody writer. Bjorn, playing guitar is the main lyric writer. Both produce and arrange the songs. In the earlier years Stig, their manager, also wrote lyrics. Agnetha, soprano and Anni-Frid (Frida) mezzo soprano are the vocalists. Their combined voices make a "third voice". ABBA is only 2nd in sales to the Beatles with over 400 million sold. They had 17 number 1 hits. ABBA, Agnetha, Bjorn, Benny, Anni-Frid (Frida) is the acronym for ABBA. You should read about them. They are one of a kind.
@Ciclopea25 жыл бұрын
ABBA (acronym) has 4 members, Agnetha (blonde), Anni-Frid aka Frida (Brunette), Benny (Piano) and Björn (Guitar), they're from Sweden and became famous worldwide after winning the Eurovision song Festival in 1974 with their first international hit "Waterloo". Agnetha was also married to Björn and Benny with Anni-Frid, the combination of their initials inspired the group's name. Hope that answer your questions for basic info about these legends :)

My wife grew up in Italy back then (Air Force Brat) and remembers watching them at that Eurovision Festival on t.v. She said that the reason they stuck out in her mind was that they were the only group that sang in English where she could understand them. So many more of their songs are SO reaction-worthy. Do it! Not sure if this was mentioned, but the girls were the singers except for one song which was "Does Your Mother Know"....the only one where the guys sing lead (such a great roller rink song, btw). Frida had a hit in the '80's called "There's Something Going On".....and if you listen hard, you can hear those distinct ABBA harmonies loud and clear. Great vid, man. Keep at it!

In the UK they had 19 straight top 10 singles, 10 singles and nine albums as no. 1 on the British top list of which eight are in succession (1975, -76, -77, -78, -79, -80, -81, -82). A while after Waterloo, I remember ABBA appearing on Top of The Pops in the UK with Mamma Mia. My whole family watched it and we looked at each other afterwards and said "that'll be number one," I think it was on the tails of Bohemian Rhapsody. It's hard to believe that this song is now 44 years old, it *still* sounds fresh! When Dancing Queen came out, I was obsessed with it and played it over and over on juke boxes trying to work out the parts, especially, being a piano player, that wonderful piano part. I used to play Dancing Queen, in a covers band and occasionally we'd have guest bass players at gigs and none of them liked playing Dancing Queen, its chord progressions are *way* more sophisticated than your average pop song. I *loathe* ABBA tribute bands, they *never* even get close. Thing with ABBA is, they were the *real* deal. Slick, sophisticated, beautifully crafted songs and by the time they split, they were writing some really adventurous stuff, The Visitors Album, in particular was a masterpiece. But, then, they weren't just a "singles band." All of the albums including and following Arrival are quality albums and like The Beatles and Stones before them, people know not just the singles, but many of the great album tracks... Buy the albums, you won't be disappointed! 😉👍

@@melibuxmelmont4889 Bang-A-Boomerang is no. 93. I'm sorry, it's not one of my favourites :) But that's the great thing about ABBA, their songs are so diverse that everyone has different favourites.

What a nice guy he is! I'm glad he found something he liked. Not surprised, mind. It was ABBA with the best pop song ever!

"Does Your Mother Know" is probably the BEST roller rink song out there (and my favorite, to boot).

ABBA was an integral part of my life as grew in India in the early 80's!! The greatest music group of all time!! Their songs are 40 plus years old...but man...they can still bring a smile to the face of a first time listener!!

ABBA was huge! I loved almost every single one of their songs. One of my favorite movies, Muriel's Wedding, features lots of ABBA music.

One of the best group harmonies out there. Fun story. I work in child care in elementary schools and at one school, we were there after school let out and this song started playing over the PA system. Looked in to the hallway to find the principal and vice principal - both ladies, one blonde, one brunette - in front of their offices lip synching and dancing.

This song single handedly launched the disco movement. I was 8 when I first heard it on radio & nothing else sounded like it. Australia found this Swedish group on their radio & kept inviting them for concerts & then the rest of Western Civilization saw what was happening in Australia & then ABBA became worldwide & broke Beatles records right & left & were a major force until 1981 when the women left the men & broke up the group. The men went on to write music for other musicians but ABBA was no more after 7 years in 1981, but their music has lived past them. You should check out Information Society's cover from 1989 of ABBA's "Over The Sea^ as well as "Take A Chance" & "The Winner Takes It All" by ABBA & "Thak You For The Music" and you'll never be disappointed with any song you review from their Greatest Hits Volume I or Two!

Good to see more of ABBA. In another video Agnetha, the blonde one, said she got goosebumps making and hearing this recording. A good sign for her and us.

You should listen to ABBA's last, most polished and mature album, 'The Visitors'. In particular, the song, "Like An Angel Passing Through My Room". Gorgeous.

Yes, a fantastic team, 2 couples married. They were sensational at the time, I adored them, & danced the night away, brilliant. Their songs are brilliant! Benny, the pianist, wrote the songs. They originally came on The Eurovision Song Contest (in Europe ofcourse!). Ofcourse they won the contest & as from there, hey presto - AMAZING!!!

I'm a closeted ABBA fan in certain circles, especially when I was much younger when "I still am a diehard hard rock and heavy metal" guy. But yeah I love ABBA. This song and "Waterloo" are ABBA's best known songs in Europe, North America, and even Japan and Australia. In Central and South America "Fernando" is their most known song, they sang it in Spanish. ABBA today is still a world wide phenomena even after 40 years of not really playing together. Thanks Jamel_AKA_Jamal nice REACTION!

Way more than 4.... sure the 4 you see + a drummer, keyboardist and someone on a horn, likely others unseen to back the vocals even more. It's a real shame that they wouldn't do the hard work necessary to do tours, especially to tour the USA. Props though, given the air play on radio stations + album sales, they made bank!
