Sweden, Sweden, Sweden, what talents you create! What is it with this little country in the North? Answer: one of their treasures is / has been that they have a natural aptitude for singing and for music in general. It is in their genes. See for example "allsång på Skansen", Stockholm, where they meet and sing together once a week in the summertime. And their people's soul goes very, very deep. ABBA was one of the very first artists to be known outside of Scandinavia. A big hug from Norway, neighbour of Sweden.

The first time I heard this song (although I have been an ABBA fan since I was a mere toddler in the early 80s) was in the movie Mamma Mia. It was 11 years before I became a father, but I was crying my eyes out in the cinema next to my perplexed girlfriend (now wife of almost 15 years). I told her I always wanted a daughter... My daughter was born in 2019. I don't even listen to this song when driving, because my eyes seem to leak as soon as Agnetha says "Schoolbag in hand..."

Another comments ... I think that you know that ABBA comes back after 40 years with a new album Voyage released in last November 2021 that is a worldwide success Now in 2021/2022 You could listen and react the new songs "I still have faith in You" have an official video, it's a ballad with a story about Themselves "Don't shut me down" is a masterpiece uptempo song like 40 years before And in the rest of the songs the ladies Agnetha & Frida still looks amazing and fantastic singing at your 70s years now My best regards to You GOD bless you and your daughter, I'm so glad with your emotional reaction and your feeling as a father

Time DOES slip through our fingers. Those who let it slip away until "tomorrow" or "later" can never get it back. One secret of life is to make every minute count and when your own time runs out, to have no regrets. Nobody should regret things they did but the things they didn't do. Chad, I requested another song "Monsters" by James Blunt which is about that very thing, not having regrets and saying what we mean to those we love while we still can. I hope you can react to that too. That one really hit me and I think it hits everyone. Like this song, it conveys a universal human theme. "Pop" like ABBA is used almost like a dirty word to some people but these singers and songs will endure long after the flashy stuff is gone.

ABBAs songs are full of catchy and happy melodies; you get in such a good mood when you listen to ABBA. Their music pick you up when you are down or in a depression. Make you want to dance and celebrate being alive. The music is effortless, and yet so complex in all their different layers. In my opinion, Benny Andersson is one of the very best composers of our time. When you really and fully understand the text of ABBA songs, you will be amazed of the depth in the lyrics and the phenomenal insights in the challenges of being human. This ability allows us to easily identify with the lyrics. I do not know of any other group that can captivate me and enchant me like ABBA. Their music and lyrics are magical. Neither do I know of any other group that can evoke as many different and genuine emotions and feelings in me as ABBA do. This is a rare talent that ABBA have in abundance. I go as far as to say that this talent makes their music and lyrics a real healing on a very deep, unconscious level. So, in these very turbulent, chaotic and uncertain times, ABBA has a HUGE mission. Love from Lena

I’m right there with you man. I have two daughters. I cry every time I hear this song. It makes me feel like this song is about a daughter as much as Cats in the Cradle is about the son. Another thing, everyone assumes that the lady singing (Agnetha) wrote this song about her daughter….but it was actually written by the dad - Agnetha’s husband - Bjorn Ulvaeus. Those lyrics are so relatable as a dad to a little girl…especially “the feeling of guilt you just can’t deny.” We do a lot for our young girls but we could always spend more time with them. Good review man. 👍

Thanks for the ABBA. Yeah it's an often overlooked little masterpiece. Born wrote it about his an Agneth's 7yo daughter Linda. Their separation then divorce sure brought out some great songs. And because the lyrics were so personal and real Agnetha pulls them off like no one else could. I think these "Dick Cavett meets ABBA" little mini concert clips are just amazing. It's just them, their session guy's and a few backup singers pulling it all off perfectly. Amazing amount of talent on that little stage.

I completely understand hon - I have 3 daughters 15, 18 and 20 years. Love them completely and life continues on with them growing up and finding their own way and place in the world - it’s a very important journey. I do look back with fondness and a lot of sentimentality but it is an important part of life and experiences and in the end you want them to live their lives to the fullest and have also their own life experiences. Still hard man sometimes ... if you could only turn back the clock sometimes?! 🥰💕

It's such a shame that this song didn't get much recognition and praise when it was released in '81. If it was written earlier and placed on an earlier album during Abba's heyday instead of their struggling years of the 80s, I'm sure it would have charted much higher on Billboard. But I understand, it was actually written about Bjorn and Agnetha's daughter Linda when she was about 8 years old.

Being a single Dad myself, only for half a year now, I can understand your feelings. But this song related to me, for whatever reason, already decades ago, when I was young myself. Not much older than my daughter is now (15). Well, this was maybe because of my parents divorce, but in general it was because of these beautiful voices and the great music. The understanding of the content came later.

I am a single parent. I have the privilege to have my daughter since she was 6. We have our challenges, having to provide for her and trying to be there for her. As she is grows up there must be some hormonal transition in her that at times there are some misunderstandings between us. But I'll never exchange her for anything and for anyone. I am grateful for every moment I have with her. I know that at a later point of her life, she will have her own. But i will stay in the shadows and will always watch her and ready to catch her.

By the way Benny and Bjorn co wrote the musical 'Chess' with Tim Rice and then did their own musical masterpiece called 'Kristina von Duvamala which later became the movie Kristina. Never seen this version so thank you. So great it was live and not just mimed. ABBA would always try to sing live if possible but sometimes constrained by the show etc they were appearing on. Agnetha (you said it perfectly BTW) sings this just a bit higher in her range than on the studio version but yet Anni-Frids metz saprano still comes in at the perfect pitch to match it.

What a great pleasure! You did an emotional reaction today And of ABBA songs most emotionals "Slipping through my fingers" (1981) is in my opinion the most testimonial and experiential song by ABBA This lyrics are very deep, about the growth of a son and how those moments of time go by day by day the guitarist Björn writes it about her 7/8 year old daughter and her mother Agnetha sings it with specialy feeling of mother Sometimes it is related to "The winner takes it all", because it has as protagonists Björn and Agnetha too But there are differences between the two stories: 1) that is the figurative story about a divorce (although probably with parts of the reality that Agnetha and Björn lived), but this is a story inspired by the daily lives of parents another difference with 2) this does not arouse the morbidity of the leading couple, it is an intimate story of parents and children that generates tenderness and nostalgia 3) perhaps this one does not have the usual catchy refrains of ABBA or a powerful melody like that, here its melody is soft, cared for and intimate, it accompanies without invading the wonderful emotional interpretation of Agnetha, that always shines much more when the song asks to express the feelings In short, it's a beautiful song by melody and interpreter lyrics, it touches the most intimate fibers of emotion and nostalgia, it's in my Top 20 of all ABBA songs
