ABBA, still fantastic talent, even today. there is no doubt in my mind the best group ever. Started way back in the 70's on European song contest, became winners from then on every song a no1. The list is long, you should listen to more, every song is different with as always fabulous lyrics, harmony, classic music and of course Frida and Agnetha! If you like a cry listen to "The winner takes it all"

"As much as Agnetha is important as a lead singer, Anni-Frid is really important as the second voice. Like she's really doing a great job and we have to respect her as much as we respect Agnetha." Couldn't agree more. Thank you so much for bringing up that Frida's voice is as important as Agnetha's. Sadly, many Agnetha fans are unwilling to give Frida the credits she deserves. Congratulations on expecting a baby!

This song brings tears to our eyes anyways. What a song! I can"t stop crying everytime I listen to it. ABBA is simply phenomenal, fantastic, the best. Believe in me that it has nothing to do with your pregnancy. By the way, congratulations As I was saying, we all get so emotional when listening to it Young people, old people, men or women it doesn't matter. This song and lyrics are so beautiful that we all get touched deep inside. Also the girls voices are simply amazing and of course the instrumentation. In other words, the real perfection. Ok, let me wipe the tears and pretend I never cry. Greetings from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

What a great pleasure! You did an emotional reaction today And of ABBA songs most emotionals "Slipping through my fingers" (1981) is in my opinion the most testimonial and experiential song by ABBA This lyrics are very deep, about the growth of a son and how those moments of time go by day by day the guitarist Björn writes it about her 7/8 year old daughter and her mother Agnetha sings it with specialy feeling of mother Sometimes it is related to "The winner takes it all", because it has as protagonists Björn and Agnetha too But there are differences between the two stories: 1) that is the figurative story about a divorce (although probably with parts of the reality that Agnetha and Björn lived), but this is a story inspired by the daily lives of parents another difference with 2) this does not arouse the morbidity of the leading couple, it is an intimate story of parents and children that generates tenderness and nostalgia 3) perhaps this one does not have the usual catchy refrains of ABBA or a powerful melody like that, here its melody is soft, cared for and intimate, it accompanies without invading the wonderful emotional interpretation of Agnetha, that always shines much more when the song asks to express the feelings ABBA performed live in 1981 "Slipping through my fingers" These was the premiere in the TV special "Dick Cavett meets ABBA" kzbin.info/www/bejne/l6ezhZeAnZedbNU and these is one of ABBA's songs recorded in spanish too: "Se me está escapando" (ABBA recorded a full album in spanish too in 1980, after the worldwide success of "Chiquitita" in 1979 at the Concert for UNICEF, specialy in Latin American countries) In short, it's a beautiful song by melody and interpreter lyrics, it touches the most intimate fibers of emotion and nostalgia, it's in my Top 20 of all ABBA songs I hope to see you soon with more ABBA songs My best regards from Buenos Aires Argentina South America

What a genuine, articulate, heartfelt review of this BELOVED ABBA classic. When I first heard it, in 1981, I immediately fell in love with it too. It was a highlight in the "Mamma Mia" play and movie. Yes, nobody ever will be as articulate and revered as ABBA. Their music is timeless, their storytelling is unique, the harmonies are like no other and the music and production hold up so well over time. They were wise at subject matter and actually utilized their slice of life real experiences, which makes their music so relatable. I hope you continue this ABBA review journey and that your baby is born healthy and well.

Massive ballad! How great you review this 40 year old ABBA song. Love your comments :-) and you are able to see this diamond still shine in all its sophistication, under heaps of pebble stones. I remember I bought the album when it was released, and this song I played very loud, to feel it, and it hit me hard each time and time again. Btw, The Visitors was one of the first digitally recorded pop albums.

Hello Dounia, just found your channel and your reaction to Abba's amazing song. I have to applaud you for listening to the song without interruption the first time, I cannot tell you how refreshing that is as SO many reactors constantly stop and start the song to give their critique but that both diminishes the song and dis-respects the song and the artist(s), so thank you for that and from that I subscribed and look forward to listening to more reactions from you. Lastly congratulations on your upcoming birth, stay safe

This song brings tears to my eyes every time, and I don’t even have children myself. In terms of emotive pop symphonies, very few can touch them, and Agnetha and Frida are unsurpassed in conveying the drama of those songs. You might like to know that the girls had a lot of input into the vocal arrangements. And I agree with you, their vocal arrangements are the best. Good thing Bjorn and Benny knew to put the vocals front and center at all times. EDIT: This is from their final album "The Visitors" from 1981, by the way, their magnum opus in my opinion. (Yeah, I know they made a comeback the other year, but this was their final album for the longest time).

Another comments ... I think that you know that ABBA comes back after 40 years with a new album Voyage released in last November 2021 that is a worldwide success Now in 2021/2022, included nominations to Grammys awards 2023 You could listen and react the new songs "I still have faith in You" have an official video, it's a ballad with a story about Themselves "Don't shut me down" is a masterpiece uptempo song like 40 years before And in the rest of the songs the ladies Agnetha & Frida still looks amazing and fantastic singing at your 70s years now And another comment of another special ABBA song: "Thank you for the music" (1977) When was recorded, the blonde singer Agnetha was in pregnancy of her second child and she had to do it in a more forced position is one of the ABBA more beautiful songs, with piano intro and outro, in every ABBA perfomance of Thank you for the music the face of Agnetha shines more than other songs for example, these in UK 1978 kzbin.info/www/bejne/roDTYnd3ncRreqM My best regards to You GOD bless you and your child I'm so glad with your emotional reaction and your feeling as a mother pregnant

"Slipping Through My Fingers" is a song written by Björn Ulvaeus and Benny Andersson and with lead vocals by Agnetha Fältskog. It was released on their 1981 album "The Visitors". The song is about a mother's regret at how quickly her daughter is growing up, and the lack of time they have spent together, as the girl goes to school. The inspiration for the song was Ulvaeus' and Fältskog's daughter, Linda Ulvaeus, who was seven at the time the song was written.

I enjoyed your reaction, literally, to the song and your feelings about ABBA are just like mine. The two women's voices together create a 3rd voice. I am very glad I found you. I will watch more. You should know Agnetha (sort of pronounced Ag-net-a) and Frida share a similar amount of lead vocals. I think Agnetha may have 3 more or some low number. You really should listen to Frida shine in Andante, Andante.

Frida (26) has indeed one lead song more than Agnetha (25) when we count "On Top Of Old Smokey" alone. If we count the medley as a whole they both have 25 lead songs.

The chorus is really not easy to sing. The descending arpeggios are really complex. But Frida's low harmony and Agnetha's melody and high harmony are so so so well textured and so well sung. The voices are so complimentary and give the unique sound. Frida's descending 'ah' in the second chorus is just beautiful and makes the sound even 'thicker'. Just before the guitar solo, Agnetha with the harmony hits a high 'F' on the "fingers" line which is quiet but noticeable. Demonstrates the range required for this song and the high notes really tug at your heart. The final '... all the time' after the guitar solo with the fading vocals is my favourite part of the song. As they fade out you can hear each individual voice as they separate from the harmony which, unique to ABBA, is so strong and thick it sounds like an instrument in itself. Frida and Agnetha's voices, coupled with amazing mixing from Benny, Bjorn and Michael Tretow, created one of the best sounds pop music will ever hear, inventing a new instrument. Absolutely fantastic. Slipping Through My Fingers sits at number 2 for me, only beaten by Dancing Queen. Just an amazing, amazing song.

Thanks for sharing some ABBA. tThere's a really good clip of them performing this live on "Dick Cavett Mmeets ABBA". Both couples had divorced by that point so it kinda adds a sad vibe to the whole little mini concert. Bjorn wrote this song after his and Agnetha's divorceabout their 7yo daughter Linda. You can see all of them (all parents) are feeling it.

I've LOVED The Visitors since I first got a cassette version of it back in 1986. It was actually the first album to be fully recorded on digital equipment as a side note. There are a couple of B-Side songs recorded for The Visitors that aren't actually on this album, one is Cassandra and the other Should I Laugh or Cry. Both are on youtube and well worth listening to.

Just subscribed. Love all your reviews. Agnetha can also be pronounced with a little roll...i.e. Anni-yetta....say it fast. Also you should review "I Let the Music Speak" also from the Visitors album. Could be ABBA"s best album. Even considering all the great ones. Frida is magnificent. The music by Benny and the lyrics by Bjorn are beyong anything I have ever heard. I hope you agree. And congratulations. I know you will be a great and loving mother.

I love Agnetha's voice. However, I've heard Frida sing harmony with at least two other performers. There are strong hints of the ABBA sound even without Agnetha. Frida is the key to ABBA's spectacular harmonies. I don't know why. I just know that she is.

Björn and Benny have explained it several times that there is no technique or template for writing a good song. They cannot even always tell whether a song will become a big hit or not. It's all inspiration and you have to be very patient. They have had many melodies which did not turn out to be good enough, so they were never recorded. What you find recorded is the essence, the very best of songs. Of course always beautifully sung and instrumented. Listen to their latest album _Voyage_ containing some more masterpieces.

Dounia, can you imagine that this is probably exactly how your Mother felt as you were growing up. You will be have the same feelings in 20 or so years, when your own daughter or son grows. And it's not just a mother/daughter thing either. I've always prefered Frida's voice over Agnetha's. There's much more depth and sensuality in her voice and it gives the lift to Agnetha when she soars. Having been a dance band singer and doing cabaret was what developed her wonderful voice.
