I have a LOT of the UK Look-In magazines. I used to get them reserved by my newsagent. You never knew if the week after would feature ABBA, you just paid to get them, sometimes you’d get ABBA, sometimes not. Part of living in those original era days was the “not knowing” anything.

My friends and I used to read the ABBA comic strip in Look-In each week and then we would cut out the logo at the top and stick them on the underside of our school desks. Thank you, this brought back a few memories.

I used to get the ABBA Magazine which later became The International ABBA Magazine in the early ‘80’s & vaguely remember the cartoon series in it. I’ll have to dig them out to have a look! They are all in pristine condition in official binders! Thanks for reminding us all Bobby’s Brother! 👍🏼

Beautiful how you collected and stored them all. Treasures! Yes, I think it continued as “International ABBA Magazine” from 1981-1983.

There were ABBA bubblegum cards in the 70's in England me and my friend swapped stuff for them the look-in one was fantastic with beautiful posters

I still have every edition of the ABBA Magazine. When the first one was published, none of the newsagents in my town had a copy so I drove to the next town and then the next and the next until I finally found it. I must have driven more than 100 miles through towns, villages and countryside that dark winter's day.
@christianoazzuro6711 Жыл бұрын
100 miles?!Shows how much you loved them.I once walked by feet 20km+another 20 to return at home just to find some specific kiosk that brought them.I didn't have money for buses but only counted coins for the Abba mags.I was 14 land i walked 40 km at late winter night,but didn't care.

Oh this reminds me of the “old days” too. Vintage, physical, and all. Travelling miles. Pure dedication. I once was on holiday in Spain, that was in 2006, and for some reason I just assumed the Spanish ABBA album would be everywhere in stores. I walked along the beach towards the little town I could spot from afar. Of course I never made it, and was driven back by strangers (!). Certainly, “Gracias Por La Musica” wouldn’t have been in any store in 2006, haha.

@@bobbysbrother137 Yes! The anticipation and thrill of going out and buying physical goods is unbeatable. Especially vinyl albums with gatefold sleeves and liner notes. Your Spanish adventure could have had a very different ending (!) but thank goodness for the kindness of strangers. It reminds me of my first time in Stockholm, 1979. I expected every department and record store to be an ABBA paradise, but they had less than the UK stores.

I remember these Comics in german in german magazins like Rocky/ Das Freizeit-Magazin/ Pop. One story was about home coming after a tour and the little daugther can't remember her parents. A lot of tears fallen by Agnetha.

Yes, you are correct, the ABBA magazine repeated the Look In strips. As an aside, my first published illustration was in the ABBA magazine - a runner-up in an art competition! So you could say that ABBA launched my career as an illustrator ;-)

I recently bought a set of fridge magnets online in the UK that feature the front covers of the Look-in magazine that featured ABBA. They're cute amd they weren't expensive. (£1.99 each.) Look- in was actually the kids' version of the TV Magazine for ITV "TV Times" in the UK. I have a good number of the ABBA originals including one with free stickers still intact! Now that's giving away my age! Thanks for the interesting video. I have always liked comics, so I was thrilled when they did a comic strip of ABBA for both Look-in & later in the ABBA Magazine.

Great topic! Please don't forget about the great animated Movie Persepolis from Iraq, where ABBA plays some important part. In Germany, one of the most famous German Cartoonists, Ralf König, dedicated his whole new book for 2022 to the new ABBA Voyage Album ... and his gay heroes Konrad and Paul...😃

And I forgot to mention that Look-in did a hardback annual every year and ABBA were on the cover of at least twoof these, including a more recent "best of" reproduction collected version that also features ABBA. A lot of UK magazines featured them, such as Disco 45 and other songwords magazines that featured the lyrics of current songs in the pop charts in the 1970's and 1980's. I'm sure you are probably aware of most of this information, but it's a fascinating topic! 🤗

The best pop magazine for abba centrefolds was" look in"....I lived for it every week... saying that....my fave abba centrefold of all time was in " jackie" magazine....it was a reddish backdrop and both girls looked absolute beautiful..I collected all the official abba magazines, I still have them....I also collected all the abba "cards"....I have scrapbooks full of them....I can't remember if they came with a stick of bubblegum.....oh....how I miss those days.....Ireland 🇮🇪
