I’ve been a fan ever since, even being bullied for it, especially when entering secondary school in 1978. ABBA have a combined wealth of nearly £1.5billion. Oddly enough, 6 April 1974 to 6 April 2024 is 1,577,912,463 seconds. So ABBA have earned £1 per second over the last 50 years! Thank you Anni-Frid, Bjorn, Benny, Agnetha.

I think back then ABBA have been just a regular band (let's not forget there have been shit loads of great bands and performers in the 70-80s). Their music has become better over the years because the music has went downhill in the last 2 decades, and we can compare today's beats / rap / hip-hop garbage with Abba's music and the contrast is pretty high when compared to the time they've come around. Again, let's not forget that the 70s and 80s decades have known some of the best and most iconic music bands in mankind's history: Queen, Led Zeppelin, Beatles, BZN, Smokie, Deep Purple, and so many more that I can't even remember right now. Nowadays, you can count on the fingers the bands / performers that deliver great (read: evergreen) music on a constant basis (say 2-3 times a year, but sadly not even that often)
@romrom9206 жыл бұрын
bla bla ABBA was definitely an exception back then given their simple constant success. You only think the 70s and 80s were so wonderful and perfect bc time has fogged reality. When we look back we naturally cherry pick the best of the decades and walk away thinking the entire span of years was like that. The 80s had just as many shitty songs as we do now, we just dont have to live through them so we dont bother to remember them. In 30 years everyone is gonna be looking at Train or Ariana Grande or Maroon 5 and asking "dont you remember how amazing they were and how great music was then?"
@blabla-rg7ky6 жыл бұрын
Sarena Romriell You're wrong. The best songs of the 80s (over all music genres) WAY surpass in number and quality the best songs of the 2010-2020 decade. As someone who's listening to any type of music I can name 30-40 songs (tops) that have been produced in the last decade and which will globally be remembered and liked 10 years from now. I don't think I can find 30, though :) Whereas for the 80s... oh, boy! Give me 2 days and I still won\t finish naming the hundreds of evergreen songs. At least half of those songs belong to the greatest bands of all time (hell, only Abba and Queen alone share 30-40 hits between them). Just to get an idea, here is only a fraction of the big names of the 80s, that people have heard of internationally, and liked at least 2-3 of their songs, if not more: Abba, Queen, Led Zeppelin, Fancy, Savage, BZN, Gazebo, Harpo, Laid Back, OMD, Toto Cutugno, Bonnie Tyler, Ricchi e Poveri, C.C. Catch, Kim Wilde, Modern Talking, Bee Gees, Foreigner, Scorpions, The Clash, Cher, Simply Red, Meat Loaf, Al Bano & Romina Power, A La Carte, Pussycat, Arabesque, Baccara, Paul McCartney, Bob Dylan, Boney M, Chris Rea, Deep Purple, Depeche Mode, Demis Roussos, Dire Straits, Dschinghis Khan, Elton John, Fleetwood Mac, Goombay Dance Band, Madonna, Ottawan, Roger Whittaker, Smokie, Steve Miller Band, Billiy Idol, Bruce Springsteen, Julio Iglesias, Mike Oldfield, Rod Stewart, Ultravox, Yello... and I'm sure I missed more. But these alone have had hundreds of evergreen songs between them, and if you've listened to the 70-90s music constantly you would have heard songs from these performers at least a dozen times, no matter which part of the world you're from
@Kebabpunk10 ай бұрын

Today is 10 September 2023....and I can't stop listening to this masterpiece since 80s.... Evergreen song of the great band "ABBA"
@superfly197516 жыл бұрын
One of the greatest and most successful bands in the music history. Was not that popular in the States but that doesn’t matter. The world is much bigger place than us. It was our loss I suppose. I love this band ❤️
@vordman5 жыл бұрын
Yes, it's strange ABBA never really took off in the States. You don't like association football (soccer) either. It's like America is apart on world opinion.
@terryc.33905 жыл бұрын
Well, I think they were popular here in the US from Dancing Queen on...Just took a couple years longer than in Europe, a couple years after Eurovision, ie. Waterloo,. But, yes. The morons that were part of the disco backlash in the late 70s didn't help ABBA. Those people also didn't listen to ABBA enough. They had a handful of disco songs, but they were POP overall, not disco.
@janettgrady23945 жыл бұрын
Lucky Luke...ABBA toured the world, including behind the Iron Curtain, and no matter where they toured, they showed people what Happy was all about. In the USA, people loved everything about ABBA, but the Politically Correct media gave ABBA no air time, "leaked" lies that ABBA be too "racy," Bjorn, for one, being a sissy, the girls forever flashing their panties, and so forth. Make no mistake about it, we, the people, loved ABBA., still do love ABBA. Proof? Check and compare comments on any and every ABBA video on KZbin.
@MrTruth-ib5ce4 жыл бұрын
That comment caught me thinking, because Queen also wasn't verry popular in the US in the beginning.

There seems to be a certain percentage of people (including myself) that are deeply affected by ABBA, to the point where it can pull one out of a depression, induce a cathartic emotional release, feel a deep connection to others, or get motivated, the way no other band can. For us, ABBA is the best band of all time. It'll be interesting to see if ABBA music has that same impact on a certain percentage of people decades from now.

I have been a fan for 42 years. Not only are their songs complex in their musicality, the beats, melodies, harmonies and hooks unforgettably catchy, their chorus' rival any ever recorded, their musicianship and vocals and production flawless, their style and image outrageously squeaky clean and cutting edge, their characters adorable but on top of ALL that, each song tells a story with lyrics that are both personal and fantastic. The lyrics to this song alone are so freaking interesting I wanna know more! Gimme gimme gimme more! They never get old. God they're good.

Their songs have complexity, yet they kind of feel simple. Some of them have part of the appeal I find in, for example, the simpler early Beatles songs. But then they actually have really interesting music underneath that just isn't there in Love Me Do.

I used to use this track for demonstrating high end car audio systems, as it's ideal. Aside from being a great song it's got an articulate mid range, and a really tight snappy bass line. On a poorly set up system ( about 90% of all chav wagons ) it sounds odd, but on a professionally set up system it's tight, punchy snappy and infectious. Abba were a fantastic band, if only pop were as good now. We should be so lucky.
