A musical masterpiece. Doesn't matter if you're into heavy metal to Mozart and everything in-between. This is just brilliant. The vocals and the story of a mundane day brought to life in this recording. And the background music. I'm no expert so probably a technical name for it but it's so understated but so brilliant at the same time. Just my opinion but i think this is the best Abba song by a country mile and possibly one of the all time greats. Love to hear your thoughts and if you agree or disagree.
@Shushannp9 ай бұрын
Benny is closest to the classic composers that we had in our lifetime. This song is brilliant due to the mixture of synths, drops and the haunting backvocals of Frida, who sound like a grieving mythological creature. Masterpiece to say at least.

Agnetha is one of the most beautiful women of this fuckin' galaxy. Her body, voice, performance anywhere any other, only love her.
@danbike922 күн бұрын
But it was always Frida that gets all the praise and attention by her peers since she was a child. In this song. Agnetha is sing-talking the lyrics. The operatic vocalizing is done by Frida, not Agnetha. Frida, again shows her technical proficiency on ABBA songs. Frida always did the heavy lifting in regards to ABBA songs. Both girls were judged very early on in their singing careers. Frida was in grade school. Agnetha was about middle school age, pre-teen. Frida excelled in vocal talent hunts. Agnetha's talent hunt era short-lived. She did not have what it took in live environments in talent hunts not live environments where an audience is the judge. Frida always was known a top tier vocalist known for her live performances on stages and her live-to-air TV Show era. Agnetha never made her name on the stages, but via a record label as a marketed and promoted pop singer. Before ABBA.... both girls were nationally known. Frida had the stellar reputation from her music peers. Frida is the ABBA girl that got the live-to-air TV Shows and was associated with top Swedish music artist. Agnetha was always known as a studio produced product, not a professional working vocalist. Frida was always known as a professional working vocalist since she was 13. She made her name and reputation on the stages. The real deal. Agnetha never made a name for herself, outside of record label marketing, which is not unusual for pop singers.
@danbike922 күн бұрын
@@frantisekhabrda4586Frida was that groups only professional vocalist. Frida was an actual professional working vocalist since age 13, 1958. Stage since 1956. The real deal. Tons of pop singers lack an actual professional working vocalist resume (stage). Agnetha fits in the category of a studio produced pop singer. Frida was on stages since 1956 and that is where she earned her stellar reputation among her music peers. The real deal. Stage first. Studio second. This is one of the reasons she has got her stellar reputation among her music peers. Both ABBA girls were known nationally before ABBA. But it was Frida that got the live-to-air TV Shows, radio gigs, and associated with Swedish music icons. Agnetha did not get those gigs. Agnetha always known as a studio produced product. Read about both ABBA girls and their reputations among musicians. It is Frida that has the stellar reputation among music peers. The ABBA fan and listener who has a little bit of an analytical mind can easily pick-out Frida's refined vocal skills. Both ABBA girls were attractive. Frida was very beautiful with a very fit, firm, athletic body, but Frida's looks never defined Frida. Frida has always been defined by her keen ear, diaphragmatic breathing, control, dynamics, versatility, range, love of performing, etc... Agnetha get tagged as ABBA's pin-up very early on. The blonde, Swedish narrative and the European butt article. It all stuck and largely defined the blonde ABBA girl. Most Agnetha centric fans are smart enough not to get into technical proficiency questions about Agnetha. They know better. While Frida fans, love to get into details about Frida's technical abilities, unique sound, emotive dynamics, etc ...

People don't realise it but this is truly one of the greatest masterpieces in modern pop music. No chorus, a double-beat that comes at intervals that feel right but you cannot put your finger on, an extremely mundane story that actually is so powerful from what it doesn't say. The feeling of sadness in the song, a contradiction given the implication it is about finding a new lover. There is so much it leaves you thinking about - just wonderful!

This song described my life 35 years ago, working two jobs as an immigrant who came to the US with nothing, I was working routinely without aim, lived the single life yet still without aim, 5 years later I saw her smiley eyes in a night that changed my life. The very next morning I stood at the window and listened to this beautiful song for the thousand times yet I finally felt what it meant, I listened to my life in a song and I discovered that I am in love with that beautiful girl I saw the night before, fast forward almost 30 years that girl still my wife and I still feel the same feeling that I felt the morning after I saw her the first time. ABBA has impacted my life in the most beautiful way. A total iconic masterpiece in music history. This song best describes what ABBA was going through as a group at this time and tells the whole story with just the beat. So sad considering this was their last song ever recorded together. It gives me chills knowing that Agnetha refused to sing this song unless the lights were dimmed in the studio and the air was just right. She even had a certain distance from the microphone during the recording. The fact she left the studio right after her last vocal in this song, not saying a word to anybody, and valuing to never go on stage again is haunting. Just makes this song ever so much more meaningful, beautiful, and powerful with how much heartbreak and talent that was involved in its creation. You can hear her heart through her voice. There is no music that comes close to ABBA. They are one of a kind, never to be duplicated again. Everything they did together was a success. And it still holds true today. I hope they never forget what they did for our industry and how much we love them. We miss you ABBA!

This is my favourite ABBA song, but I always thought of it as a story of a bored girl finally finding a lover who will change her life. The Day Before You Came" is a song that has always resonated with me, for a long time, as it beautifully captures the monotony of daily life and the profound impact a significant person can have on our lives. The lyrics, written from the perspective of the protagonist, meticulously recount the mundane details of their day-to-day existence, or at least, how it once was, and indeed returned to. This highlights the lack of passion and direction in their life, before the arrival of a special someone. The protagonist explaining their morning routine, such as leaving their house at eight and catching the train. This meticulous description of their daily life emphasizes the sense of obligation and the lack of excitement or spontaneity before the arrival of their lover. As the song progresses, the protagonist describes their workday, lunch break, and the commute back home, illustrating a rigid and predictable routine. The lyrics "I must have kept on dragging through the business of the day, without really knowing anything, I hid a part of me away" suggest a disconnection from their emotions and a sense of being only partially present in their own life, just going by, and by. The music video is also a departure from ABBA's previous work, which often featured the band members dressed in glamorous outfits and upbeat, energetic visuals. In contrast, the video for "The Day Before You Came" features Agnetha Fältskog as the protagonist, dressed in somber attire, riding the train, interacting with her lover, and driving home in the rain. To somber tunes. The individual shots of the band members sitting alone in an empty, theatre-like setting which indeed could before have been used to play a concert in, full of people, and now, empty, further contribute to the overall melancholic atmosphere of the video. As well as the shots of the train going by, and a sense of separation at it's core. In my opinion, "The Day Before You Came" is possibly the greatest love song ever made, or at least one of them. The song's emotional depth & versatility, coupled with its introspective lyrics and poignant tone, showcased ABBA's ability to craft songs that resonated with listeners on multiple levels. The song serves as a powerful reminder of how the arrival of someone special can bring newfound meaning and purpose to one's existence. Moreover, the song is particularly significant as it was the last one recorded by ABBA together before they split. The themes of longing, introspection, and the eventual realization of the impact this person has had on their life could be interpreted as a metaphor for the band's journey, with the members moving on from their time together and returning to their individual lives. When you also realize that they all were couples, it adds a deeper meaning to it as well. This added layer of meaning makes the song even more poignant and powerful, reflecting on both personal relationships and the group's journey as a whole. These different approaches help make it a lot more profound. This is a song that has deeply touched me, and i can listen to it again and again, as it captures the essence of love, longing, and the transformative power of human connection. It stands out not only as one of ABBA's most moving songs but also as one of the greatest love songs ever made. The song's themes and the music video's visual representation of the protagonist's life create a powerful and poignant experience that remains unforgettable. At it's core, the lyrics just describe a normal day most of us can recognize, but when you add the melody to it, it tells you that something more is going on here. This song remains one of ABBA's more less known songs compared to dancing queen, or the winner takes it all, but whereas those were part of their journey, i think the day before you came can be seen as the end.

What an amazing song, I did not realize that it was their last recording together. The haunting drumbeat, it takes you back in the depts of your own ups and downs during your life looking for that elusive love!! Agnetha, the most gorgeous woman ever born on this planet, with the kindest eyes ever, the most mesmerizing smile you want to die for. With an angel-like voice singing every word with the deepest meaning like she does in the songs "when you walk in the room" and "if I ever thought you'd changed your mind" she recorded later!!! Amazing that they still could put this together while they went all 4 through a rather disastrous time, as only true friends can do to be able to play and sing next to each other!! Especially Agnetha who seemed to be the most affected going through their troubles!!! I have the utmost respect for each of them, that they kept their feet on the ground, showing, being wonderful human beings!! Their music is just timeless!!
