That was the first place I visited when I went to London - Abbey Road studios, I along with other tourists were walking across that street getting photos taken.. what really struck me was how nice, polite and patient the local Brits were driving by. No honking horns to get out of the way or yelling at the tourists. They just patiently stopped and waited for the tourists to finish taking their photos . This was the end of 1999 so I don't know what it is like there today, I don't remember there being a stop light there so kudos to the locals there, they were very nice!

Billy Boy: There is no "best music there will ever be" since it's all a matter of opinion. But, truly, there were those that came before the Beatles that were quite amazing, not to mention that those that emerged during and right after (from Mozart, Haydn and Bach to the Beach Boys, Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan and TONS/LOTS more). And, usually, one's most creative time in one's life is prior to age 30 (Einstein, etc.).

My Mom was/ is a huge Beatles fan. She was fortunate to have seen them in concert twice. She still has the photos. I too am a huge Beatles fan. I can't imagine life without them. I was only six when John was killed. I remember it like it was yesterday. It was a balmy, rainy night. We were driving home from the mall. It was just about dark and my Mom turned on the radio. The DJ was talking about John being killed and then Imagine started playing. My Mom started crying. Being only six at the time I asked her why she was crying. She told me that a man who made the music playing on the radio was shot while walking down the street on his way home in NY. I'll never forget that moment. I did not really start appreciating the Beatles until the 5th grade. That said, I felt the gravity of what had happened even before really understanding who John Lennon and the Beatles were. There was a palpable heaviness in the air in that moment. For a period of time in the 80's my Mom owned a one hour photo. Many of her customers were professional photographers. One day one of them came in with a roll of film. On it were photos of John Lennon very shortly before he died. My Mom asked the woman if she could make an extra copy of one of them for me. The woman was kind enough to agree. I have this photo framed next to my bed. I've never seen this photo in any publication so I'm guessing that it was something the woman kept private. In the photo John is wearing his blue jean jacket with the fur color. He has on his granny glasses and a dark plaid shirt. His hair is the style he was wearing right before he was killed. If I had to guess I'd say the picture is from somewhere between mid Oct to late Nov. or the first week of Dec. 1980. I do not cherish much in the material world. This photo and the magic I feel from the Beatles and their music is one of the few things. Some people say the Beatles are "over rated". I don't agree. If anything they are under rated. We mortals will never grasp or fully comprehend the magnitude of what they achieved.

I was lucky enough to be at their first of two shows on September 3, 1964 when they performed at the Indiana State Fair. There are several videos of that show here on KZbin for the searching. I was only 6 at the time, but had two older sisters and EVERYTHING was “Beatles.” I can also remember seeing them on the Ed Sullivan show. It was a magical time. Even as huge as the boys in BTS have become, even as massive as Taylor Swift is on her current “Eras” tour, the Beatles are in an entirely different universe. People forget how SHORT their run was - and without trying to start a row with purists over dates, depending on which event you choose to mark the “beginning” of the band, they made all of that music between (approximately) 1960 to 1970. Roughly ten years covers everything we know as “The Beatles.”

Dave April - At the time of recording Abbey Road, The Beatles were unsure if it would be their last album. While I do believe they planted a lot of Paul is dead clues, I think there were many that were coincidental and the funeral thing is one of them, as far as I’m concerned, based on having read every major Beatles book of the last fifty years.

I've been a fan of the Beatles for about as long as I can remember, yet somehow never saw any of the photos other than the one they wound up using for the album cover. I love how a few random passersby appear in some of the shots. The word "iconic" tends to be vastly overused, but those people in the background had no way of knowing they were witnessing one of the most iconic photoshoots in pop culture history. By 1969, they were far from the fresh faced lads from Liverpool that upset the Western world because their hair was over their ears. John has his apostle-length beard and hair. George and Ringo have followed suit. Paul, in a show of individuality, is clean-shaven and is recognizable as the man who would light up the charts with his band Wings in the decade to come. This is my favorite album and look for them.

I was looking at this Abbey Road photo shoot for the first time, and as I was doing so, I got a sense that The Beatles knew deep down inside that this was the end of the road. I don't know if I truly saw it in either Paul's or Ringo's faces. But I could definitely see it in the eyes of John and George. By the way, Paul was the unquestioned MVP of this photo shoot. On a warm spring day, Paul had to walk across the street barefoot on warm (probably hot) asphalt. His dogs must have been barking loudly at the end of the day.

Thank you for this! - It is quite an artistic study. George is really over it, and that shows. As much as they were squabbling though it still looks like John and Paul were mates. And is that Ringo being his cheeky self (he still is!) in the one photo it looks like he has his finger either on the side of his nose - or... oh dear, "drilling for gold for the camera"... back in the day EVERYONE was going crazy looking for "Paul is Dead" clues. Things like the license plate number on the white VW, Paul's having one shoe on and one off (I always thought he was completely barefoot), there were a ton of clues and even more speculation. People ruined the needle on their turntable playing records backward, straining your ears listening to the run out groove (I actually did that for hours! - I was positive I heard John say something!! (ha!)) - I for one never thought Paul was an ex-Parrot (like a Norwegian Blue) err Beatle. I do know that at some point, John was having a lark with it and kept feeding the mystery - I suspect a collaboration with Paul, but its the kind of thing that would have tickled Johns acerbic wit. In any case these are incredible photos! Thank you again!

Billy was completely barefoot on the "Abbey road" cover. And you should question why he took them off if it was such a "hot day". You do not take of your shoes to walk on hot asphalt. That doesn't make any sense. Your post is the typical "how cute and innocent this and that is". Everything is not what it seems to be. Except there are photos of Paul walking across the street with the flip flops on his feet in quite a few pictures during the day. He took them off because flip flops are not comfortable to wear all day. It's as simple as that.

That Paul is Dead business cracked me up. All just a publicity stunt. Paul seems to be having fun with it. Look at the lapels of the boys in "Magical Mystery Tour" and you'll notice Paul has a black flower, while the other three have red flowers. Paul barefoot in the "Abbey Road' album is supposed to mean death by Welsh custom. The speculation goes on and on, but of course Paul was enjoying every minute of it.

I was born and brought up in London, a massive Beatles fan, but I'm not the person who wants to visit shrines. Even so I remember when young in the 80's working as a cycle messenger. Getting a bit lost I cycled down a street and found myself cycling into the album cover. Oh my God, I'd looked at the cover so many times and here I was recognising it instantly so many years later. It's my favourite album cover. Also the blurred girl walking past the street sign is so iconic.

I appreciate most sessions weren't conducted in that atmosphere, but amongst the stress of Apple falling about their ears and the machinations of Klein and others (like Dick James), it is even more remarkable they pulled off such a monumental album. Four geniuses in one band. It's unique. You can't write any of them off. Even Ringo with his 2003 Ringo Rama. Genius. John did most and went on longest doing great stuff. Until he died in 1980. Both McCartney and Harrison lost momentum a couple of years after breaking up. Still all of them are fantastic.

When I was a kid we thought it was part of the “Paul is dead” hoax. Paul shoeless with 1966 suit and haircut and out of step was “dead”, George was the gravedigger. Ringo the parson, John an angel. They were leaving a cemetery, and the Volkswagen license plate LMW28IF meant Paul would have been 28 IF he had lived. We were kids ok? It didn’t have to make complete sense.

It was done to fuel the romour that Paul had died the year before, there is also some message in the reg number on the white Beetle car, look at the video for "your mother should know", they are all wearing red roses, Paul is wearing a black rose in memory of "Paul"

He is holding the cigar in his non-dominant hand cause it's the way the camera was, and the theory is he died in 66. No, he did not die. If he did, then the "new Paul" had much more talent going on to have a great solo career and writing the songs he did in the 4 years Paul had "died" while the Beatles were still going. Not to mention all the vocals. The only evidence you have is that he was dancing with a black flower, which explained by Paul himself, they were out of red ones. I do not see how Paul is out of step, or how it could be a sign of a corpse, as it would just be a simple sign of human mistake. Anyone can be buried in clothes like Ringos or John's so I also don't see how that is a clue. As for Sgt peppers, there is really no evidence. In the outake photos, you can clearly see that sometimes they all hold the red instrument, and the "funeral scene" was just his the set was designed. No, Paul McCartney is not dead. I don't know what it will take for people to see that. This is for anyone who believes that, as I'm just staring facts. I'm not saying your not entitled to your opinion, but I'm explaining things people need to know as that rumor is very much false and only originated cause a collage student thought that holding something in the wrong hand means you've been replaced by a look alike. Also, just as a p.s, someone could have easily made millions spilling it and saying Paul did in fact die, but they didn't, and obviously a lot of people would know if he died, like family and close friends.
