Meters on compressors - nice ornaments to convince your clients that the box is actually doing something :) I wonder if the valves could be replaced with JFets (so called fetzer valves) in a low voltage implementation of the circuit?

Very likely they could. I’m not that clever… yet.

I was busy when this was posted, then i forgot. Good episode as usual. This is actually on my list to make. Just gotta get around to it. Too bad a 6x8 wouldn't work....somehow I ended up with a bunch.

Thanks! That’ll be a Lowrey DSO or similar organ valves 6X8

Impressed by your understanding of electronics and hands on approach, best not let the pink creatures get the better of you though, they cannot be trusted. They quite reasonably have a significant grudge to bear against humanity.

Hello Steve ,I have really enjoyed this video,(and all of them), I took a screenshot of the schematics because they brought me memories of those highly sensitive to voltage double triodes and diodes. I have always loved electronics and I admired so much how you are able to fix all kind of electric and electronic devices, and your explanations are quite interesting and ilustrative. I am eager waiting for that new synthetizer demostration from Steve, the Vintage Key Studio's Magician !!

I can think of a further mod - when engaging the "bloody awful" button - have another button to mix in the clean signal for that "New York" compression

I think I may have found the 'elicit' circuit diagram of which you speak. It looks very similar to the Altec one but has 2 No. rotary switches, one being double ganged, with the attenuation step resistors around it, Non? This is of course all very well and good, because although it would be fun to make one, I'm not sure whether I have much of a use for one! I have a solid state compressor kicking about here somewhere bought with the view to using it for rhythm guitar but as my guitar playing is so bad, offering little in the way of meaningful rhythm, I don't really appreciate what the compressor does for me. :0)

Hi dear Steve =) After Many years,....it is clear that it's easy to record and make music in a computer, but it is also to predictable, and it gets dull and boring to operate a mouse all the time, ok threre is controlers that get some tactile feel,...but i am going more and more back to oldskool production metods =) and it is a releef and fun with Reel2 reel tape and i get more creative. thank you Steve Wish you all the best.

Seriously brilliant Steve - build, explanation, effect! (I love lobsters too. How did you manage to kidnap my lobster hands remotely from Kent to Hampshire???)

Thanks so much! this message honestly made our toil over making it worth it - it was a very difficult video to do!! It took three attempts! I kidnapped the claws quite easily - anything is possible in the world of the lobster :)

So glad your not eel-ly. I so suffered trying to spell that. A useful device indeed. Alas my voice is still dreadful on tape however.
