I’m a 4w5 and I have mixed feelings on many of the enneagram types haha… Because I always see what’s lacking/missing in myself and others. But I will say that I’m very inspired of enneagram type 9. I can recognize their depth and their gentle way of being in the world and they are always so kind!

As enneagram 9 (9w1) myself I find that very sweet of you to see us in that kind of light. It's kind of hard to always see the bright side of things, but I try just for the well being of others. Btw I always had a soft spot for enneagram 4's, I find them quite inspiring. I also have friends with this type and it's such a good balance. I know that people give 4's the stereotypes of being self centered, but never let those kinds of people discourage you. You guys have amazing ways of looking at things and being who you are. I hope you have a lovely day 😊😊😊

Yes 😂 I'm a type 5 and the lack of boundaries type 2 people sometimes have is mind-blowing to me. I think I've actually said to a type 2 before that if you don't take care of yourself also, you will eventually burn out and be unable to be there for anyone else.

4w5 here and I agree. Enneagram 2s seem to never burn out about people, or they do but are in deep denial about it. Then they get offended when you keep too much distance, when in reality it's not even about them. 😅 But I guess it makes sense, since they do not burn out over people so they assume they must've done something wrong for the e5 /w5 to keep distant.

Ha, type 2w1 here, the constant need to serve is something that never ceases, we draw energy from our interactions with others, and we are always striving for deeper and more personal connections, which can make us rather pushy and intrusive, and while we never ask for anything in return for our services, what we really want is your love and support

The funny thing is, the whole reason I started looking into personality typing was because I started writing and was trying to understand what makes people tick. There's nothing quite as disorienting as going through how each character responds to a thing and having one of them pipe up "And I stab them in the back!" and having a gut response that that actually feels consistent and having no idea why*. The enneagram in particular, I started digging into because I had a couple of characters who one of them I just could not figure out. So I tried writing a short "how did they meet?" scene. She drops in like Godzilla, steals the plot bus and goes tearing off in it. And he is just being towed long in the draft. Her character is this vivid, larger than life type who bulldozes her was through things by force of charisma and sheer will where that fails. And it is all driven by this part of herself she has nearly zero real control over, so she's build this entire emotional façade really to protect herself and maintain some semblance of control. She is a classic 8. Even her fundamental challenge is she needs to ask for help to have a chance of getting free of her curse, when she does not know if it even could be fixed. It's the perfect nightmare for an 8. He, on the other hand, has firmly insisted on being an incredible bundle of contradictions. Obedient, even to his own detriment, yet strangely rebellious. In the one moment, he's jamming his hands in his pockets and refusing to act, and in the next he's gone full on hero mode. He's wildly inconsistent, yet at a gut level, it felt right, I just could not figure out what was making all of it tick. I eventually started cycling through the enneagram types to see if one of them fit, (which was how I realized the female lead was a type 8, though by that point her personality and motivations were already completely laid in.) Couldn't be a 1: they were too driven by a moral code, and really just driven in general. Type 2 didn't even remotely fit. 3's wouldn't have had that rebellious streak. 4s would have been more concerned with who they were, and not had that sort of emotional numbness. 5's are not going to spontaneously act without thinking. I eventually settled on him being a six, on the idea that he was being compliant out of a need for a group, but sixes that are not getting the security they need tend to be vocal, so it did not entirely fit. But this week, I finally sat down and listened to the in-depth explanations of all the types. He is a nine. He has gone deeply numb to everything, but it doesn't mean he does not have that emotional furnace going; it's just being ignored. His challenge is to wake up to the fact he fundamentally despises what he is being forced into, and to get the peace he really wants, he needs to not just rock the boat, but break the whole thing and find a new one. And each of them has the tools the other one needs, if they'll admit it and take hold of them. What makes this hilarious is, the 8 describing the 9, and the 9 describing the 8 are all but exactly how they interact. It's just some perfectly on the nose, even though I had had no contact with the types when I started writing them. I can just see the dual interviews in my head now. Thank you, Harry Voyager *Solution was the character in question has severe enough untreated PTSD that they think this is necessary and helping. And the characters around them who would have any clue would also both be significantly emotionally injured as well and unlikely to have any knowledge of PTSD and how it should be handled. And none of this is obvious on the surface because the character presents as a goofus. (Which, as it turns out is also one of the ways severe PTSD expresses itself. Did not know that going in.)

These are great, super spot-on! My best friend is a 5w6 and you totally nailed him, and as a 9w1 I was absolutely rolling when you mentioned sending food back! I _might_ send food back for someone else, but almost certainly not for myself. I like just about any food someone puts in front of me, so it's especially hard for me to speak up about that because I'm sure whatever they bring me is delicious, even if it's not what I actually wanted, so 8 friends are definitely good for that lol. Tbh I think 8s are my favorite type, because I really admire that willingness and to speak up and be direct. Their character and values are clear and you know they'll stick up for you when it comes down to it. My fiancee was asking for embarrassing stories about me from my 8w7 friend recently, and even after I explicitly gave him my full permission to fire away (mostly because I was curious what he would actually say), his response was, "Absolutely not. I may be a jerk, a hoe, and a violent man, but I do not betray my homies like that. Even as a trash person I'm above that. Gotta hype the homies up, not bring them down." 😂

As an e4 who also relates to e9, I find I have the hardest time with unhealthy 1's (prioritize people, not projects and perfection!), 8's (they're scary and how dare they boss me around?), and 6's (embrace change, go live life! Why is tradition more important than people?). I'm happily married to an e3 (he keeps me moving forward, I help him feel), and besties with e7 (no pressure to be anybody else than myself and so fun), e2 (you nailed it), and e9 (let's write and be creative and watch all the movies with cuddly blankets). But I have considered it as I asked for a to go box and envisioned how happy my pup would be when she got her special treat. I can always make something else for myself. The waiter was SO busy. And it was probably my fault. I asked about the dishes ingredients and clarified why I was asking but I probably wasn’t speaking loudly enough. That food looked really good though. And it was pricey. I just wish I had eaten something before heading to the restaurant so I wasn’t so hungry. It’s fine. The pup was happy.

I am very close between 2 types also. After a while I figured out which was dominant. Just work on both. Live action skits like this really helped me because I always gravitated to a particular type that was NOT the one I thought I was at the time. For what it’s worth, I do find 6 types tend to have trouble making a final decision and will ask for advice. But the 1s I know think there is only 1 possible option. So I would lean more toward 6 for you but you’ve gotta make that determination for yourself, but just keep researching both and it will be clear in time. Also try to figure out what is your “heart” type - 2,3,4 so you can learn your tritype and that will be helpful for growth in the meantime.

As a 7, I quite like 1s! I have huge issues with 5s though lol
