This might sound silly but I’d really love to see a video that breaks down how to make a good balanced meal (maybe even breakfast, lunch and dinner). There’s a lot of videos showing you what not to do but not a lot that goes deep into what you should do.

I agree that I would love to see a video like that but at the same time she always says what you should do. When she reviews what they eat she will always say what she thinks is lacking and what she would add instead to make it more balanced. You could take notes when you see the video and write down what the food was and what she said she would incorporate to make it better ;)

As someone who has had an ed for 13 years, I find it really disturbing when people promote eating disorders. I wouldn't wish this life on my worst enemy. I have destroyed my body and some of it is irreversible. This isn't a diet, this is a disease and it's dangerous and scary. I hope any one here that is suffering like me is able to recover, you are worth more than your ed tells you.

Isabella Austria if u mean ur developing an eating disorder and u don’t want to and u wanna loose weight in a healthy way, as much as u probably hate to hear this it’s normal to gain a bit of weight around 10-16 but it eventually will come off. Don’t restrict just eat a bit healthier and be active. And if u do gain a few pounds that’s normal. I’m 14 and my weight goes up and down 10ish pounds based on water/food weight and if I’m on my period. Edit: if ur overweight or obese then sure, eat healthier lol

I talked to my nutritionist on campus and she said "if someone was choosing between eating a donut or not eating, I would tell them to eat the donut." Restriction is so incredibly bad for both your physical and mental health, and I really wish someone had told me that sooner- it definitely would've saved me years of struggling.

Ight so boom. I eat healthy sometimes and I'm know for eating a lot, but lately (over quarantine) I've been keeping myself from eating throughout the day. (Not for a specific reason I guess I just want to match an aesthetic that I've been obsessed with.) It's not my first time doing stuff like this I actually used to do it on and off in middle school but my friends kinda helped me through it. But I'm kinda alone rn (other than my mom) and there's really nothing stopping it from getting worse. I noticed that I'm starting to be able to go long and longer without eating and although I ate a normal amount today, eating a normal amount of food kind of makes me feel bad. Anyway I need some kind of help/advice cause I swear I'm going off the deep end over here and I'm sorry if I'm rambling but I really need help. (Also I on and off deny the fact that i could have a disorder just like I on and off deny keeping myself from eating).

dinahdomi Please speak to your mom about this. If you have her, please tell her you are struggling and that you need professional help from a doctor. Not eating will not help you lose weight, I promise you. It will do more damage to your mind and body than you could ever understand at this time. Take it from someone who also struggled as a teen, it took me such a long time to repair myself from that mindset and I still struggle some days, but I have found that I’m so much happier eating a healthy amount of food. I’m stronger, I’m more in shape and I love my body more than when I was restricting myself. Please get help, the sooner the better. It’s tough, but believe in you, beautiful ❤️

will not eating cause me to lose weight tho?
@bianca-cs1er
@bianca-cs1er 4 жыл бұрын
@@julia-claire well, it depends. the logic is: if you burn more calories throughout the day than you're eating (eg, you burn 2100 and eat 1800), you're gonna lose weight. the problem is, this *extremely* restrictive and disordered diets might cause damage to your metabolism (read it: you will slow it down). your hair will fall out, your nails will become brittle, you'll be colder, and, if you have a uterus, you might even lose your period and cause irreversible damage to your reproductive system. if you're eating too little, your body will enter the "starvation" mode. some of your essential body functions will even shut down, and that's why many people with eating disorders die of organ failure. plus, you're more likely to binge if you're on a diet like this. if you restrict yourself too much, you're gonna have even bigger cravings, and, when you finally give yourself into them, chances are, you'll binge a lot. then, there's guilt, which causes you to restrict again. you might even enter a binge-restrict cycle, where you restrict for a period of time, binge for some time, then repeat. i have an eating disorder. and let me tell you: it's a rabbit hole. i wake up thinking about food and go to sleep thinking about it. once you "start" it, it's really difficult to stop it. it's like a drug, the more you get addicted to it, more difficult it'll be to stop it. i'm not recovered, i just... can't. and, to be honest, I wouldn't wish this life to anyone else, even to my worst enemy :( edit: she talks about it on this video, plus she explains it well (im bad at the explaining, i'm def not a professional) please watch it! it's on 10:25

The compliment thing is true. I was starving myself and dropped ten pounds in a week and was so tired but when my mom found out about my weight loss she was so proud and happy and told me how good I looked and how I looked so much better. She didn’t mean it badly but it made me starve myself more and lead to binging and weight gain.

There was one point where I lost over 10 pounds in less than a month because I was going through a super rough patch and couldn't bring myself to eat. After I recovered mentally, I gained back the weight back and then some (for the better, I think, because it rounded out my hips and chest). My mother and other people in my life kept telling me that I "looked so much better when I was skinnier" and urged me to lose the weight again even though I had only done so because I was depressed. During my accidental "diet," I could barely bring myself to get out of bed and would panic if I had to eat in front of other people. It hurt to know that people prioritized my physical appearance over my mental health, especially considering I was never overweight.

@@lockerpaint2955 it's such a horrible feeling when people applaud your outer appearance when you are not doing so great on the inside and then respond critically when you have got to a better place mentally and have changed physically. Same @Andrea - I knew I was just 'fight on the scale acc. To my height & measurements, but then also I did - Intermittent fasting for 2 months without giving any hints to my parents... Apparently I lost just 2 inches on my waist for which I got praised by my mum - saying flat stomach looks better* on me & I should maintain that (& there was no weight loss after it (idk why)) What she didn't knew was how I restricted sweets & some foods to get there.. Tbh it was mentally challenging & frustrating. From this video of @Abbey - I acknowledged the value of food & nutrition. Realizing that all of this I'm doing in 17th year of my life, is concerning of how exposed I am as a teen is to damageable, over glorified body type contents all over the internet. Thank you so much if you read to the last📖. Ily & hope💞 you're taking care of your self.

My anorexia started at 11 and yeah. Except, I ate way less than this. I would do half a cup of orange, some breads sticks and a fruit + not even half a bottle of water each day. No, that wasn’t ONE meal, it was my ENTIRE meal for the whole day. I’m surprised I didn’t pass out completely. I’d just get that nauseous-hallucination thing. I was often feeling too cold or too hot, no in between. These videos don’t trigger it, as I’m finally trying to do things the right way by working out. I still don’t have good health, I do have bad eating habits still because of the thoughts that started it in the first place, but I am way better than I was at 11 up till this year in November. Update: working out has helped a lot! and I feel so much better about myself now. Not entirely, but I’m less miserable now.

Now its been more than 3 months and each day I am trying to eat around 1600- 2000 calories each day . I exercise regularly at home ( thanks to COVID 19) and eat healthy 90% of the time. I have not only gotten into better "shape" , by which I just mean I have gained muscles, I feel so energised, happy and healthy. I am also looking for a nutritionist because I never realized that I have or had eating disorders and thought it was completely normal. These videos break my heart. When I was 16 a group of friends and I went on the cabbage soup diet. Most of us lasted less than a week. I lasted a bit longer and fast fwd 25 years and I still struggle with my weight, food and body image. All of my other friends are going through the same/similar experiences. One of my friends didn’t survive. 4 months after her 18th bday ( 6 months after we started our cabbage soup diet) my friend was dead. The starvation was too much on her heart after years of food restriction and she had a heart attack. The cabbage soup diet we went on was a symptom of a larger issue within our group. We were all experiencing ED and had been for some time. So seeing this still going on even with the awareness of ED and the dangers of diet culture is disheartening. Thanks for continuing to fight these horrible messages.

The sad thing is, when a big/fat person eats waay too little (like the second vid u showed) it's applauded, because the person is fat. WHen a thin people would do that, it would be an Eating disorder. ED's rarely get diagnosed in fat people, because it's seen as just normal weight loss, which is super bad. (not saying she has an ED! I'm not diagnosing someone i dont know!)

"omg you look so great are you losing weight?" why yes lisa. yes i fucking am. although i did go into treatment when i was heavier, but it was a binge eating program so it was a bit different. kinda fueled my restrictive side tbh (but also i went in right before covid hit so i didnt even get to finish treatment so who knows). society sucks sometimes lmfao

when i was in the depths of my eating disorder, i would post what i ate on a private instagram account with other accounts similar to mine to see. i’m so ashamed i fueled other people’s disorders while trying to make myself feel better. not only was what i doing harmful to others, it was fueling my disorder, not helping me fix it. i started off eating 400 calories a day and other people kept praising me, so i kept going lower and lower to the point i ate 150 calories a day, and i couldn’t even eat 3 spears of asparagus without feeling absolutely stuffed. when i was bad, i would’ve watched these videos for inspiration. i really hope these people posting can get help, and i’m so glad abbey brought attention to this harmful behavior

You have to remember though, in the grips of your eating disorder, your brain was probably so starved of so many nutrients and fuel that there was no way you could have made rational decisions with regards to what you shared with other people, nor could you have been in any place to make healthy decisions to help you or anyone else. Please don't feel guilty about your actions back then, I used to feel the same about my behaviour during my ED but now I know I was not really myself ❤ i hope you feel loads better and you're on a path to recovery!!!

Ugh, this reminds me of when I was deep into depression and I gained a ton of weight, so I decided to "take charge" of my life and start working out and dieting. I got a lot of encouragement at first, but then what happened was that I was doing pilates, 5k everyday, no rest days, and eating a max of 400 calories everyday. It was so hard to claw my way out of that behavior. I remember I got addicted to the dizzying hunger pangs because to me it felt like control. I basically just traded my depression in for an eating disorder. My heart goes out to these girls and I hope they find the strength to get better. Just watching this makes me want to cry.

She supported me with trying to make healthy meals for me to eat during dinner, but also kept saying that I looked pretty after losing 10 lbs in three weeks.. like I'm conflicted on wanting to eat normally again because I know my metabolism sucks at this point when I havent been eating so I'd probably gain all my weight back.

One of my main issues with Tiktok is that it seems to reward users who post problematic content. Of course, such behavior is prevalent on all social media apps, but Tiktok particular isn't doing a great job of preventing it. I've worked in federal agencies & I know that the US government, most major US companies, & the US military don't allow Tiktok to be put on any of their devices or even your company-issued devices if you work there. Some reports indicate that Tiktok purposefully promotes content that triggers controversy & conflict, bc China's goal is to destabilize the West. You can see this on how the r@cist Tiktoks & problematic gender activists randomly "blow up" on that app. Same with this pro-ana content. Coincidence? No

this is common with a lot of social media apps because of how their algorithm works! the goal of a social media platform is to keep users on the app as long as possible (spend more time = see more ads = more $$), and so they do this by recommending posts they think would be interesting. however, the way a post is measure by how “interesting” it is is commonly done by the number of interactions, or the proportion of people who see the post that engage with it. at least, that’s the facebook works (and i’d assume instagram since they own them). this is actually a really common problem with extremist groups, as they commonly post things that cause outrage, which makes people comment, share with friends, etc. however people commenting about issues on these posts means you’re giving it engagement and kinda indirectly sending it to more people via the algorithm. so this is probably a similar situation, people see these posts and it triggers emotions, which make them more likely to engage with the posts and get it shared even further. unfortunately the internet/social media is built in a way that spreads negativity or however else you’d like to label these problem. sorry for the long ramble lol i hope this makes sense! if anything i said is incorrect or you have a different view, please feel free to reply :)

I didn’t realize until I was pregnant for the first time how “complimenting” someone’s body doesn’t always have a positive impact, despite intention. My BMI was 18 prepregnancy. I’m a naturally nervous person, and it manifest in stomach aches. I don’t want to eat when my stomach hurts. My work environment was honestly toxic, so I didn’t want to eat more than necessary to keep me going and I had to force myself to get more calories. I wasn’t gaining proper weight at first in my pregnancy and it hit me like a ton of bricks that I might not be nourishing my child properly. So I made a huge change and started writing down my calories for a few days until I realized how to make sure I was getting around the normal amount to be healthier! It would hurt my feelings so bad when people said I didn’t have a bump or I was “so tiny” to be as pregnant as I was. I realize they thought it was a nice thing to say but it just hurt my heart that I was trying so hard to eat better for my son and I wasn’t “making visible progress”

Everytime someone complimented her, she was reminded of the darkest time of her life. Mentally and physically she was the unhealthiest she had every been and she had never received so many compliments. Once she just snapped and told a girl from uni why she had lost all that weight and that she wasn't feeling beautiful at all. The girl didn't even apologize, she was just like "jeez just take the damn compliment". It was so messed up.

WaresTheWolf the algorithm on social media apps works by trying to keeps the user on the app as long a possible (more time spent = more ads seen = more $$). this is done by promoting posts that have lots of engagement (likes, comments, shares). people are often more likely to leave a comment if they see something that makes them angry or upset, so unfortunately this means that these negative or problematic posts are favoured by the algorithm. just figured it might be interesting to know why apps seem like they promote problematic stuff! because they do lol!! but maybe not for the same reason you’d expect! if i made any mistakes or there are new things put in place that i don’t know if or didn’t mention pls let me know :)

Yes I noticed this same thing the other day! Decided to download a food tracking app to try and make sure I’m actually getting enough protein and not consuming too much sugar, not focusing on calorie counting. I downloaded and started half a dozen apps before eventually deleting them all by the end of the day cause they all seemed rather unhealthy. Some offer ‘diets’ you can try where they give you recipe suggestions and I saw so much Detox crap or smoothies to cleanse. I really just want an app that shows me my nutritional info of what I’ve eaten and doesn’t focus on the calorie counting cause it always forces my brain into a panic mode of ‘I only have so many calories left in the day to eat’ which actually causes me to either binge eat way over what I should or I start trying to under eat to make up for it.

the important point of this video: if you feel like you need to lose weight, you need to see a doctor. if your doctor says you don’t need to lose weight, then you don’t need to. if you’re concerned about maintaining your weight, then speak to your doctor. generally speaking, if your doctor hasn’t mentioned weight loss to you, it’s because you don’t need to lose weight.

I starved myself for 4 days when I was 11, because I wanted to have the Instagram model body. I thought I was really fat compared to my other classmates. I think my dad being an alcoholic and my mom being all the time at work messed me up because nobody really cooked me anything and I had to cook for myself or eat the frozen fries that my dad microwaved for me. So I hope no one tries to be a "skinny legend" and love themselves for who they are! I know it can be hard and IT is. I learned to love myself through empowering role models and It took me 2 years of constant self-love exercises and avoiding social media and I´m still working on it! And now I kinda love myself and also realized that beauty comes in all shapes and sizes

From personal experience, it's not as simple as that. These children might either not have a good relationship or open communication with their parents, or they might be hiding their efforts to lose weight, the parents might not know enough about a healthy diet to recognize the problem, or if the parents try to intervene the child won't let them in, hide it even more, or if the parents make them eat more they might end up throwing it up. As Abby said, any kind of comment on someone's eating habits or weight loss can be very triggering, especially for someone in their early teens, so I think it's often hard for parents to make the right move, especially if the relationship is not amazing already.

I used to do a “diet” every summer to “glow up” for school (especially since my new school has a lot of kids who are just bullies) and I would weigh myself every morning and that turned into me not even dieting I remember once I had only half a ceaser salad the whole day and I ran for about 2 hours I was struggling to keep going because I was so exhausted and everytime I would lose maybe 5-10 pounds then gain it back and a little more weight but this summer I found a youtuber named Natasha and she does a lot of fitness and right as I was about to go through the same cycle again I watched a video of hers called “why diets don’t work” and I decided to stop eating so little and I ate whenever I started to feel hungry I listened to what my body was telling me and I did the same exercises I would do when I barely ate and I lost 20 pounds and I kept it too I’m still going though my goal is to lose 30 pounds but I understand now that you shouldn’t do short term diets I’ve changed my lifestyle and learned to not hate food all the time. I’ve also stopped weighing myself every day and just watch my body and how it changes (if my clothes are getting looser and if I can physically see myself getting slimmer)

Would you be able to do another video like this for people who calorie restrict for weight loss that aren't as extreme? Maybe ones that are around the 1000 - 1500 calorie range? I understand the shock value of reviewing 500 calorie days but I think people might see their restrictions as okay since they aren't as extreme. I looked so good and I felt great (or so I thought) and I was eating SO well (also or so I thought), but I was only eating 1200 calories. My menses stopped for 5 MONTHS. I went into college as a pre-dietetics major and... started gaining weight. I later got diagnosed with hypothyroidism but I also watched my best friend die and this triggered a still-omnipresent depression and cycle of emotional eating that has put on all 81 plus 25 more pounds in just four more years. I count every single thing that goes in my mouth. I’m obsessed beyond belief and have nothing to show for it. All she says is TRUE. Do not let diet culture set you up for a lifetime of feeling like a failure, my darlings. xo

I would love a video on daily recommended eating. I mostly only eat when I truly feel hungry, and I am not sure if that means I am slipping into old disordered eating habits or not. It's not that I restrict "on purpose", but it ends up being only small portions because I'm not feeling hungry that often, and there is really no structure to my eating besides dinner. I'm thinking if I had a purposeful eating structure, it would become a better habit over time. Seeing videos like this worries me because sometimes it's food like this that I eat in a day, not on purpose but because that's all I am able to eat (feel hungry enough to eat).
