It’s so important that when the body of knowledge grows, we are able to pivot and accept new conclusions that may not align with previous ones. I was having problems with something oxidizing in my skincare routine & giving me an orange tint around my hairline, so I did some research. I came across the topic of mixing copper peptides with vitamin C, & that was definitely one of the issues. Another problem was too high of a concentration of niacinamide as well. Once I stopped using the Biossance Squalane + Copper Peptide Rapid Plumping Serum in the morning with my vitamin C, as well as dropped my niacinamide percentage from 10% to 4%, & I don't have the oxidation problem anymore.

Thanks for the clarification! I use Niod's CAIS and that product is so pricey there is no way I'm risking having at it denatured or rendered ineffective even if some formulators argue it's technically possible. I think that ultimately this comes down to us being reluctant to have a simple routine. It's ok to just use copper peptides as a single serum in a routine and alternate other ingredients on other days/nights. ❤

I used to use NIOD’s copper peptide product too (I went thru 3 bottles). Eventually I finally decided to try the Ordinary’s version instead-I wanted to see if I noticed any difference since Niod’s is so much pricier. After going thru 2 bottles, I have to say that while copper peptides definitely have a positive effect on my skin overall, I can’t see any difference since I changed to the less expensive product. Just something to consider! (For reference, I’m in my late 30s , and have a fairly in depth skincare routine, maybe a bit less involved compared to Abbey’s-hope you find this helpful!)

@ynnaz06131986 Hey, I've tried the Ordinary's version too, and quite like it 🙂 I guess Niod edges out in my preferences because I have very oily skin and the thinner formulation of CAIS sinks into my skin a lot better. FYI for anyone considering a lash lift and tint, you don't need to use lash GROWTH serum if you do a lash lift and tint. in fact, it's recommend you don't use it for 10 days prior and 10 days after depending on the product used. I've been an esthetician for 4 years, and I've used multiple lash lift brands (just incase anyone is curious on my background). What I usually recommend my clients to use are lash serums that target nourishment. I love the WB&Co one, I also love plain ol argan or jojoba oil because they're light. Some of my clients swear by coconut or castor, which is not my cup of tea but their lashes are still strong and healthy after multiple lifts and thats all Im looking for. Some lash lift brands have their own nourishing products as well, and those work jamazingly-but usually come at a higher price tag.

My experience with using a lash serum (I think I used the same one as Abbey): first off, it discoloured my eye lid. I had a brownish line, kind if of like a subtle eyliner where I was applying it. Not a biggy but still weird. Then, when I ran out of the product and didn't purchase a replacement, all my newly super long and georgeous lashes fell out. It wasn't like I lost all my lashes at once, but it was rapid and concerning and not at all fun. So yeah, never again. It's not worth it. Edit to say the same thing happened to my sister

LOVE THIS VIDEO! I will say though about the SKII essence; Galactomyces is actually just the genus of the fungi, and there are dozens (if not hundreds) of different species like the Pitera that SKII has trademarked. The other products you mentioned have a type of galactomyces ingredient but they aren't actually required to disclose which species they're using, and the different species do have different effects on skin. I have found SKII sadly works a lot better than any of the others I have tried, but for some people the COSRX one works better so its really all about your skin type. But they really are two different ingredients. Aliceintherabbithole has a great science-based video on the SKII essence.

So much so that I stopped using vitamin c because in the Florida weather they always oxidized quickly on me. I use the psa skin visible improvement for my antioxidants instead of vitamin c. Thanks so much for your honesty and integrity!

Great educational video! Thank you! ❤ I’m with Dr Luke on hypochloric acid, knowing that it is a prooxidant (a LOT of disinfectants are, it’s part of why/how they work) it’s only logical to hypothesize that using it with antioxidants may be contrainductive (sorry, English is not my first language, I might be wording that wrong, but I hope you the reader understand what I’m trying to say 😊)

Something I find interesting is comparing the burden of proof for products being “okay” and “not okay.” If there is no scientific evidence saying that combining X and Y is bad, then it’s “okay” based on other accumulated knowledge about the body/biology. However, in the “clean beauty” sphere, if there is no scientific evidence saying that ingredient X is bad, everyone says it’s lunacy to try and avoid ingredient X, despite there being biological/physiological evidence for ingredient X being *potentially* harmful. Just an interesting observation about the relationship between skincare users and science. Thanks for the video!!!

Anecdotal, but I've been using Latisse for over 2 years, and I've had no issue with side effects. From my understanding, the side effects people are scared about happened when the drops were being put directly into the eye for glaucoma. Latisse for lash growth is put on the lash line and can not be compared to the drops being put directly in the eye. I believe Dr. Dray has a video on Bimatoprost in depth.

This is really interesting to me. I’ve used revitalash for 3 years and never had any side effects at all. I’m SUPER careful and apply the tiniest amount (like I wipe the brush off completely) so that it doesn’t get on my skin much or in my eye at all. I get my eyes checked annually and I’m always told my eyes are healthy. 🤷‍♀️

Hypochlorous acid works by oxidizing anaerobic bacteria, a similar mechanism to benzoyl peroxide, which also oxidizes/cancels out antioxidant skincare ingredients. Instead of a hypochlorous acid spray, I use a benzoyl peroxide gel as short contact therapy before washing my face with a gentle cleanser so that it doesn’t interact with all of my antioxidant products

I think the best approach is to rotate. Keep in mind you can still get the full benefits from using most products a couple times of week. The only two that I feel make sense for every morning are vitamin c or other antioxidants and sunscreen because you need protection every day which those provide. Everything else you can rotate. If anyone is curious I can break down my routine on how I rotate. You can also use products that don’t play nice together if you wait 30 minutes between application. For example on my days off (that’s when I have time) I will apply SA, wait 30 minutes then put on my vitamin C.

Knew I had heard it from 1 of the dermatologists here on youtube or Penn Smith, Master Esthetician, so went and looked. Derm Review has a study showing that l-ascorbic acid, once applied, absorbs right into your skin and remains in the skin for 72 hours. I've been alternating mornings: one day L-ascorbic acid routine, next morning copper peptide routine. If l-ascorbic acid is in the skin working for 72 hours after application: alternating seems a good option for me :)

I've had *very* thin and weak nails my entire life and I recently decided to start a nail routine! I purchased a metal cuticle pusher, Sally Hansen Instant Cuticle Remover, OPI Nail Envy Nail Strengthener, and some Biotin supplements and the results are absolutely blowing my mind with how long and healthy my nails are from these products! The routine itself is so simple, one to two times a week I will use the Sally Hansen Instant Cuticle Remover to push back my cuticles, I never cut anything off, and then I'll apply 1 - 2 coats of the OPI Nail Envy Nail Strengthener, and in a few days when that starts chipping is when I know it's time to remove the OPI Nail Envy Nail Strengthener with nail polish remover and start the routine over again. And of course Biotin every day :)

So wouldn't 'skin care' be required to actually 'touch' your skin?? Use of the hypochlorous acid spray in the middle of the day would be sprayed onto the skincare/SPF you've already applied and any cosmetics you may have applied that morning. What benefit would it give if it doesn't actually come into contact with your skin??!? I love the spray I'm using as it's really improved my skin; I use it twice each day and I will continue to do so because I'm not having any adverse reactions. But in my opinion, that spray applied in the middle of the day is the equivalent of a setting/refreshing spray. Why bother at all...??

lol I actually just throw everything on my skin, and have no problems 🤷🏻‍♀️ I start with a salicylic acid cleanser, then I use an AHA/BHA toner, salicylic acid serum, lactic acid serum, lots of peptides, and Tretinoin. If I don’t use all these acids, my face has so much texture it looks awful. I love the look of my skin when I use lots of actives on it. It’s so smooth and soft. I’m so surprised I don’t see more people using the Numbuzin No. 3 essence. That has over 50 fermented ingredients in it. It works SO GOOD on my skin. I can definitely see a difference if I stop using it. It brightens up the face so much, and also over time lightens dark spots. I won’t be without it. I’ve probably purchased it 10 times. I use acids with antioxidants and peptides all the time and I don’t see any reduction in efficacy of my products 🤷🏻‍♀️

I have seen the same information being shared by derms - retinol/tretinoin products + acids CAN in fact be used in the same routine, if skin tolerates. I imagine it may be a bit difficult to tolerate, especially if you are using tret or if you are just starting skin care. But I think we have had too many fearmongering happening. People who are experienced in skin care - we want to know the whole story. I do not want to miss out good ingredient combos in fear it MAY irritate my skin, but which my skin can tolerate just fine. Each persons skin is different. I think these recommendations from manufacturers should be more specific and they should not play it safe and consider that everyones skin is sensitive. We can make our own decisions, skin care junkies that we are :D

We need more cosmetic chemists on social media to inform us on skincare ingredients that might cancel out the effects of other ingredients. In particular we need to know whether the “don’t use x with y” statements are because of possible irritation or actual cancelling effects.

Thank you for this great information. I’m impressed by your commitment to your community and the science behind skin care. And your skin is gorgeous. Because I have highly reactive skin, I alternate certain products to reduce the chance of irritation. For example, I alternate nights for my retinoid and copper peptide. I never use copper peptide in the morning even though the C serum I use is a derivative not l-ascorbic acid and might not be problematic. And I exfoliate on a night when I don’t use any actives. I want to note that my decision to alternate a retinoid with a copper peptide was actually serendipitous. I can’t use a retinoid every night because my skin can’t handle it. So, I choose to use to use a copper peptide on the nights when I use Bakuchiol because my skin doesn’t react to Bakuchiol the way it does to retinoids.

One thing I would highly recommend to you is switching out your face wash and salicylic acid for 1. A sulfer face wash (leaving on for about 5 min) and glycolic acid. I used to use cera ve salicylic face wash and my skin is much more “cleared out” using a sulfer face wash. And I am sooooooo happy I now use glycolic. My favorite I’ve found in actually L’Oréal revitalift serum 10% glycolic. I am telling you that I have brand new skin in the morning now after I switched from salicylic to glycolic. Just freaking try it. For reference the products I use are sulfer face wash, timeless vitamin c, L’Oréal glycolic, some sort of Korean essence (I like to switch those up just to have a little fun with my routine, Klairs midnight blue drops (peptides), Missha probio ampoule, hydroquinone or Tret depending on what cycle I am in, Careprost for lash/brow growth, la roche-posay double repair moisturizer, some Korean SPF depending on what finish I want, and elf whoa glow spf for the glow. Just try it for one bottle instead of salicylic. It’ll change your liiiiiiiife. Thank you for your videos and integrity.
