Amazingly enough, not all of the new shows in this reel had any footage....such as "The New Odd Couple" which used the original Odd Couple movie and TV series, and footage from Barney Miller to represent it. In addition, "The Day After" is announced as set to air for the 1982-83 TV season as a four hour event. It wouldn't air until November 1983, and even then as a two and a half hour movie.

That same season over on NBC, Cheers, Family Ties, St. Elsewhere, Remington Steele, and Silver Spoons debuted. The A-Team also premiered mid-season. Also new to the network was Late Night with David Letterman, which premiered the season before. All of those shows were critical to the major success that NBC would achieve a few seasons later. NBC began its slow rise out of the ratings cellar while ABC began its slow decline to the ratings cellar.

The Day After would debut in November 1983 and was cut back to three hours instead of four. Still ended up being one of the most talked about Made-for-TV movies in years and influenced the decision making of Reagan and later Gorbachev, who both saw the film. It may have helped end the Cold War between the United States and the Soviet Union.

Back then most sitcoms had a fresh approach to the American cultural landscape I was particularly fond of the 1983 sitcom "Square Pegs" and the U.F.O. drama "Project U.F.O. on NBC which aired between 1977 to 1980

The 1982-83 season was dominated by CBS, whose mash finale remains the most talked about series finale of all time...i was being born in december 26th of that year so i have no memories but my dad and mom remember watching tv. ABC had the rights to the oscars and that did good ratings, also Winds of War was a hit.

A lot of these movies go through what's known as "Development Hell". Some movies get made quickly, Some take Years to get made, some get shelved altogether. That movie about the "Death of a Town Bully" was slated for 1982, but it didn't wrap & air until 1988. "Mata Hari" either never happened, or it was made under a different name with different people entirely. That's Showbiz.

Back then made-for-TV movies and mini-series were national events. They were obviously budgeted lower than actual movies and were shot much more quickly resulting in great actors giving mediocre performances and static camerawork that was only suitable for the little TV screen.
